Long Distance Birthday Ideas

DH has a business trip next week, so he's going to be alone in a hotel on his 40th birthday. :( Hit me with some ideas! I'm going to be overnighting him a box with his favorite brownies and some cards. Anything else I can put in it? Whatever I send has to be small for shipping and airplane reasons. He's getting his presents once he's home. We'll call him, but I don't think he'll be able to Skype. Thanks!

what about including cute little notes and cards from you and the kids that he can open every hour? just little things to let him know you love him and miss him. you could include a small gift or two with them as needed

Yeah, I was gonna mention cards & pictures. What about something that he could wear home. A shirt, watch or a new wallet?

I was thinking along those lines, too. Like a new security-friendly laptop bag or something? IDK how old your kids are, but maybe have them write "Happy Birthday" on a big piece of paper. Take a pic of them holding the paper with your phone and send it to your DH so he can see the paper and the kids. (But if your kids are older, they probably won't like this idea lol.)

You are so sweet! We don't make a deal out of adult birthdays so if it were my DH he'd just get a call from us and a gift when he got back home. LOL

Thanks! I like the picture idea, and maybe I can take it further and include a DVD with a video of the kids singing him happy birthday. He probably won't get the box until he's back in his hotel room for the night, so I can't do a full day worth of notes or gifts.

I'm stuck on presents--I'd like to send him a little something, but he's already getting a very big gift (an Ipad), so anything we send has to be small and inexpensive. And he's not the kind of guy to get excited about practical things he could use on the way home. He doesn't download music or books, so I can't do a gift card for something like that. Hmm...maybe a gc for the itunes store even if he can't use it quite yet,

Does he know he's getting an ipad? If not this maybe fun... if you like Big Bang Theory.

I love that Brittney! Too funny! I need to do something like that for Sean!

LOL-that's hysterical! He knows he's getting one, but he likes Big Bang Theory and would think it was funny.

love that idea - hahahah!!

The one and only time I as away on business for my birthday, my mom baked me a little cupcake to pack... and then when I called her on my birthday, she sang happy birthday to me and I was still able to "blow" out my candle (mentally, haha). This was pre-skype world, though...
