Oh no! That's so heartbreaking. :(

kendallt 02-21-2010 02:40 PM

Oh no...that is so tragic. I read that she's still planning to compete. She must be an incredibly strong person.

nanienamou 02-21-2010 03:54 PM

OMG! Tha is so sad! :( My thoughts are with her.

lovely1m 02-21-2010 03:56 PM

This seems to happen every Olympics, I can't imagine still trying to compete.

d2vasquez 02-21-2010 03:57 PM

oh how sad....

A similar thing happened in 1988 to US speed skater Dan Jansen whose sister died the morning of his Olympic race - he had only been informed the day or two before that she was even dying of leukemia. He still raced, but did not place (but he won a gold 8 years later). It takes a lot of guts and heart to compete after that, but it can also be a tribute to the lost loved one in the athlete's mind.

oh so tragic :(

this year just seems to be fraught (did I spell that right?) with sad things :( My prayers going up for her family! I do admire that she's going to compete anyway. just so sad!

I am so sad too Kristin, I can't get her off my mind. She is still planning to skate her short on Tuesday. I don't know if I could do it. :(

krystalhartley 02-21-2010 05:53 PM

Heartbreaking!

Giseli Freitas 02-21-2010 10:04 PM

So sad! :crying:
I love figure skating. I'm trying to watch it from Brazil, but I managed to see only Men's short program and Men free skating so far.

crystalbella77 02-21-2010 10:22 PM

oh no!!! SO SO sad :(

crecia27 02-21-2010 10:25 PM

how tragic! My prayers go out for her and her family!

adi 02-21-2010 11:53 PM

It's terribly sad. If you think about it though, her mom would probably want her to do it anyways. she's skating and going to give it her all because her mother would have probably rather her do it. I know if I was her mom I would! Lots of prayers to her fam :(

ryliesmom 02-22-2010 07:29 AM

How terribly sad.

calliclaire 02-22-2010 12:06 PM

That is VERY sad! Glad she can continue to compete, but it must be a sad time for her!

Sue Setiadji 02-22-2010 12:18 PM

What a tough time for her and she is indeed courageous for continue her dream inspite of hardship.

kresta 02-22-2010 12:24 PM

Yeah, it's awful. Did they say what happened?

nanienamou 02-22-2010 12:33 PM

She had a massive heart attack when she arrived in Vancouver on Saturday and died in the hospital that same night. She was only 55, i believe. :(

BeaDame 02-22-2010 02:59 PM

My heart goes out to her. I wish her the very best in the competition. As the mother of middle-aged adult "children," I know that her mother would want her to go out and do her best.
