Shutterfly - Unlimited Free Pages! (and a question)

I just received an email from Shutterfly about unlimited free photo book pages! The Code is FREEPAGES and ends this Sunday, January 26 at 11:59 P.M. PT.

How do you keep from having parts of your layouts cut off?

StacyLynn 01-23-2020 09:47 AM

I just try to keep important stuff (journaling, titles, and photos) within 1/4-1/2 inch in from the edge. Most pages are okay but once in awhile I can see a small amount cut off.

I don't use Shutterfly, but what I do is resizing my templates. I shrink them to 92% or 94%.

Here is their design specs and templates for whatever size book you plan on printing. I use these to help when I print with them.

Woo hoo! I've been waiting for this sale. Five pages to go before I'm ready to print.

I print 12x12, so this might not work for someone who is scrapping 3600x3600 but printing at 10x10 or 8x8. But here's what I do:

On Project Life templates (which usually run too close to the edges) I shrink everything but the background to 95% before I start scrapping. (If I have a background that's something other than white and I want it to show, I shrink the rest to 90% or 93%.)

For all other pages I just make sure not to put anything important (photos, journaling, title) in the 1/3rd inch closest to the edges. I don't worry if part of a cluster gets cut off, so things like that I take right to the edges.

I have templates made according to their specs for pages, cover, and back. I merge all the layers of my page except the background (and sometimes things that will run to the edge, like ribbons), and then resize the background to fit the template. It can be an annoying process, but I try to do them as I go so it's not one huge job when it is time to print. My books usually come out just right.

Yay! I just finished up 5 books for 2010...yes that's right, 10 YEARS ago! I'm so behind!!

Thank you all for the tips on sizing the pages for printing! Most of the time, it doesn't matter, but it's a bit disappointing when I have layered papers, and I can't really see the bottom layer. I really need to make a concerted effort to have the pages print properly.

How wonderful for those of you that have finished books!!

What an accomplishment! Just think, though, you have ten years worth of new kits to use! I’m mostly caught up, and I struggle a lot to find the right photos to match the things I buy/own.

I’ve been watching every week for this promo! I just finished up my 2017 album, and I can’t wait to have it printed!

I wish the expiration date for this promo was longer! It's not in the budget to order an album this weekend, or next! They've been having a LOT of them this month. Maybe they'll carry over into Feb. It's more in the budget to print some then!
