Book Suggestions for April

If you have a book (or two) you want to read post here by March 24th then we'll set up a poll for the weekend thru midnight March 28th then decide which book we will read for April...that way if you need a few days to pick it up you'll have time!

Please only leave 1 or 2 book suggestions. Depending on who has read what we might pick 2 books for the month and you can read 1 or both of them.

emmasmommy 03-20-2011 12:36 PM

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
The Help by Kathryn Stockett

BrattyMeg 03-20-2011 12:37 PM

I'd love it if we had a choice of two books. There are are few mentioned that I've already read. If not, I will still gladly join in the discussion if one of those is picked.
Here are a couple of more suggestions.
Shades of Gray
Madame Tussaud
I second the above. I read "Tale of Two Cities" last year with my son, he had to read it for school, and I really enjoyed it. This one has my interest piqued.
Hourglass
Jen

mrshobbes 03-20-2011 06:56 PM

Across The Universe by Beth Ravis
and I second Water for Elephants :)

*Celeste* 03-20-2011 08:39 PM

I would love to do the book club but I just started a new series and wont be able to put it down til I am done reading it all. So my suggestion would be

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

I am currently on Book 3 in the series just started it though only about 90 pages in.

I'm a complete Outlander addict (listening to book 2 on audio right this minute, in fact). I refuse to admit how many times I've read Outlander (and Voyager, too).

~Julie~ 03-21-2011 01:04 AM

The help by Kathryn Stockett
Sing you home by Jodi Picoult

Gemma 03-21-2011 06:06 AM

Another for The Help by Kathryn Stockett, it's been on my Kindle for 2 month and I haven't got around to read it yet.

Penny Springmann 03-21-2011 08:39 AM

I'm interested in these 2 already mentioned and 1 new one:

Madame Tussand: A Novel of the French Revolution by Michelle Moran
The Paris Wife
and Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women

I've read The Help, Water for Elephants and a few of the others mentioned. I'm happy to join in the discussion of those. :)

mummytothree 03-21-2011 08:48 AM

Well I haven't read any that have been mentioned (except Pride & Predjuduce :p ), so I'll refrain from offering any up and just enjoy which ever is picked cause they will be all new to me!!!

Keely~B 03-21-2011 09:07 AM

I've had this one on my to read list for a while. Cutting For Stone by Abraham Verghese

melmos75 03-21-2011 11:30 AM

The Help and Water for Elephants are both on my to read list - so I put in another vote for both of those. Water for Elephants movie hits Theaters on April 15th.

livelys 03-21-2011 11:54 AM

I like the sound of this one Celeste suggested: The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown.

I'm crossing my fingers for the one chosen not to have tooooo many tears & heartbreaks?!! ...had anough of those this year already.

nikkiARNGwife 03-21-2011 12:38 PM

I read Water for Elephants a couple of years ago but it was really good and a quick read so I could definitely read it again :)

I just read this book a few weeks ago and I really liked it. Good story and development of the characters. I really liked it.

Kenzi 03-21-2011 02:41 PM

I read the Help and it was really good. I've been wanting to read Water for Elephants since it came out but haven't gotten around to it.

It's seriously sooooo good. On page 161 of Voyager as of this morning. My friend who got me addicted says I should totally listen to it on tape because that way you get the whole feel of the Scottish accents and what not! :D

BrattyMeg 03-21-2011 03:45 PM

I second Jennifer's take on Sing You Home. I'm #25 on the library waiting list. But I'd love to decide now that it's going to be May or June's read so that people have a chance to get it from the library if they want to.

BrattyMeg 03-22-2011 04:17 PM

it's brand new so I'm sure ev1 is waiting in line to read it. I'd love to read it this summer though to give ev1 a chance to pick it up!

ayaandjudah 03-22-2011 08:55 PM

For those who have mentioned wanting to read The Help, I wholeheartedly encourage you to read it. Fantastic book.

*Celeste* 03-22-2011 10:53 PM

scrappinsweetie 03-24-2011 08:30 AM

They're both excellent . . . nothing alike, of course, but I'd definitely recommend either of them highly.
