Scrap it Summer participants - question #2

So for question #2... I am curious about your take on the actual challenges....

Have you found some of the challenges outside your comfort zone? Are you pushing yourself to try something new? Do you find yourself completing the harder option (that is subjective) sometimes? Are you liking the fact that there are 2 options? Any particular challenge more difficult for you? Any particular challenge that totally up your alley?

I am trying (but not always succeeding due to time) to pick the option that pushes me outside my normal zone. Things like, lots of journaling, doing the AAM page or doing the # of elements for your age.

I loved the jewel tone colors challenge. Those are such lovely colors.

I do go back in each thread and look at the pages that are posted. The inspiration is amazing. I love seeing which option you picked and how your page turned out.

I haven’t found too many outside of my comfort zone, but some of the prompts are definitely things I never would have thought of - like scrapping about my first job! I try to choose that option so I can stretch myself. I like having two prompts and have enjoyed seeing so many beautiful takes on the same prompt.

I haven't had too many out of my comfort zone, but I am trying to do some that are not my 'usual' if that makes sense. I love the 2 options- sometimes I just cant come up with one of them- although other times I want to do both! lol I really like the title (have to use "this" word) since they make me think a bit more outside my norm- or remember pics that I can use that I've forgotten about. I'm not huge on AAM layouts, so it's nice to be forced to do those too! :)

Having two options is the only way I'm able to stay current without losing my mind, lol. I'll admit I'm picking the one that's easier most of the time, just because things are really busy with school starting back up.

Kiana 08-21-2021 10:05 PM

I definitely like the 2 options. None of them have been outside my comfort zone.

Dalis 08-21-2021 10:26 PM

I think they have been so nice in the way the challenges have been presented w/ the two options.

HeatherB 08-21-2021 10:30 PM

Loving the 2 options and having a choice. And I'm not finding it too far out of my comfort zone.

I'm not really pushing myself to try something new. I'm simply trying to reinforce my habit of daily scrapping. Pretty much, I review the two options and then go for the one that first grabs my attention. I know the day that I scrapped about all the books I've read this year - that was a intensive layout.

Are you liking the fact that there are 2 options? Any particular challenge more difficult for you? Any particular challenge that totally up your alley?

I love that there are two options! I can't think of any particular challenge that was difficult, other than the one I just mentioned.

Leablahblah 08-22-2021 02:30 PM

I love that there are two options! And when I read the first option and realize I don't want to do it I always dread that the second one will be the same! But I've been pleasantly surprised that it hasn't happened and I've always found a good option to choose.

I don't particularly push myself because I'm the lazy kind! lol If I push myself it would take too long for me to accomplish in the one hour time I have per day to scrap. If I don't finish that same day it will be hard for me to finish two layouts in the next day.

I haven't actually had much time this month to participate! This is birthday month, plus College stuff, a wedding, etc. I would have loved to play along more! I do love that there are 2 options to chose from, and have seen some fun prompts I would have loved to try. Would love for this to be done again, and hopefully have a less busy month to play along!

bumblebeee 08-22-2021 03:12 PM

I also love having choices. Nothing has been outside of my comfort zone. Somedays I pick what speaks to me, or I have an aha moment knowing exactly what I want to scrap, others is it to challenge myself.

tjscraps 08-22-2021 03:37 PM

Love having the 2 options, and I'm trying to push my limits when I can, but sometimes I just really like the other prompt!

Hats off to those creating the challenges - figuring out 1 challenge a day for a month would be hard enough, but doubling it - insane! I appreciate all the work going on behind the scenes!!

I love having the two options, some I have pushed myself and others I haven't. It really depends on the mood I'm in and where the mojo is at.

This is me, too! I go for the option that speaks to me that day and the time I have. Any other day this month I would have skipped the extracted photo option because it takes too long for me. I had time today and played with it. I can't say I love it, but it's done!

I avoided that one as I suck at extractions, still can’t do them. Then I get frustrated and absolutely hate the page, lol.

Have you found some of the challenges outside your comfort zone?
Just a couple so far... not too much.

Are you pushing yourself to try something new?
I did for some.

Do you find yourself completing the harder option (that is subjective) sometimes?
For some yes, but others no.

Are you liking the fact that there are 2 options?
YES!

weaselwatchr 08-23-2021 11:57 AM

It is nice having the two options. So far I haven’t been struggling with the challenges but I am having trouble with day 23 for some reason, going to have to see how that goes.

I also dislike transactions but have found the magic eraser tool and quick selection tool help a lot. Also zooming way in helps to clean it up.

chastml 08-23-2021 12:37 PM

I pick whichever option matches a story I want to tell. There are some days where I want to do both and picking just one can be the real challenge!

rach3975 08-23-2021 10:48 PM

I love having the 2 options, and one of my favorite things about these challenges is that all the layouts for a prompt are together in a thread and can be browsed for inspiration. I have a folder of photos and journaling waiting to be scrapped for the photobook I'm working on, so I'm choosing whichever option works best for something in that folder. I don't feel like I have time to be pushed beyond my comfort zone right now--I'm a slow scrapper under the best of circumstances, and the need to complete these on the clock stops me from choosing things which would push me too far outside my comfort zone. I've also got a few things going on IRL that are pushing me beyond my comfort zone, so I don't need that from my scrapping too, LOL!

bcgal00 08-23-2021 11:29 PM

I really love having two options. I’m not too worried about coming out of my comfort zone, I’m good with just about anything but, like you, I am making an effort to do some more journaling which is my weak spot.

Kellymr 08-24-2021 07:50 AM

I think some of the prompts have been way outside my comfort zone but I am a new to scrapping (again after several year break) novice and that is because it appears the challenges are geared more to the seasoned scrapper.

I love the 2 options but would like to see one more for the novice/getting back into it and one for the more advanced scrapper . Just my opinion.

Neverland Scraps 08-28-2021 05:48 PM

Have you found some of the challenges outside your comfort zone?
The All About Me was outside of my comfort zone. While I tell people what I want, I don't really scrap about myself. That was hard for me.

Are you pushing yourself to try something new? Yes, I'm trying to challenge myself and do opposite of what I would normally pick or choose to do. However if I get stumped, I am going back to "easy" to complete the challenge.

Do you find yourself completing the harder option (that is subjective) sometimes? I don't know. Sometimes I'm like "that's the harder of the two" and then I go through the gallery and see so many layouts, so maybe it isn't hard like I thought???

Are you liking the fact that there are 2 options? Yes!!! I love that there are two options. Sometimes challenges can be completely difficult, but having two different options really makes it easier to do the daily challenges!

Any particular challenge more difficult for you?
The hardest challenge was scrapping a photo that was 10 years or older. I'm struggling scrapping the older photos, trying to navigate what is a lie, what I want to include in my children's albums and what I'm emotionally able to deal with it at the moment.

Any particular challenge that totally up your alley? I love, love, LOVED the birthday challenge! That was probably my favorite challenge I've done in a while!

A few were outside of my comfort zone, I tried to do the ones that were outside of my usual box to truly challenge myself. I do find myself being a bit competitive about it and choosing the harder options but it's also a lot of fun to go out of my scrap comfort zone so I don't box myself in. I loved that we were given 2 options and the challenge that I found the hardest was probably Past, Present, Future due to the future part of it lol..That had my brain a little confuzled. The extraction challenge was also out of my comfort zone since I rarely do them. Right up my alley was probably Tons of Butterflies. It's my favorite thing to scrap with.
