I am, officially, the mother of a teenager now.

Help me. I need survival advice :P :unsure:

Haha, Darcy. No advice to give here. I'm still waiting for that to happen in my own life. But, I'm sure you'll do just fine! HUGS!

My son was such a jerk from 13 to 16; temperamental, disrespectful, plain hateful most days. My advice, remember how much you love him, that nothing lasts forever and that he will eventually grow out of it. :)

ripal 11-23-2012 03:15 AM

Welcome to the club! :) Tell him Happy Birthday for me!!!

jacinda 11-23-2012 04:04 AM

No advice here - mine are only (almost) 6 and 9. I do expect you to have a completed manuscript written for me by the time my kids reach their teens though. ;D

I do not want to scare you, but it's scary :D
I have one on seventeen :D

My mom calls the year I was 13, "the year I didn't like my own daughter." ; )

Tronesia 11-23-2012 08:58 AM

No advice here...just going to say 'good luck!' lol! :)

I remember my mom yelling "I hope you have a teenage daughter one day!" and one day....I will have 2. I am fairly certain she cursed me.

maryinaz 11-23-2012 10:19 AM

I've had 4 at a time. Now one is 20. But he's not much better and I still have 3.

Just remember, they know everything, you don't know anything. :p

hollyxann 11-23-2012 10:24 AM

No advice but good luck! lol :)

taracotta7 11-23-2012 10:25 AM

Darcy, you got a good boy so I am sure it won't be THAT bad. :) Now mine on the other hand.......Robert was rough. Praying Landon does send me to the bottle.

KateD 11-23-2012 11:01 AM

My oldest turned 13 in March and so far it's not too bad. He does get moody at times, and he answers more often in one word answers, and has his headphones on all the time, but he's always been a pretty good kid and so far that seems to be holding. Hopefully your experience won't be too bad!

kelley 11-23-2012 11:24 AM

No advice here either since my oldest is 11, but here in 2 years I'll have one and in 8 years I'll have 5 of them at the same time LOL. Good luck!

I was such a PITA as a teen. I know it! You know what got us through? My family always had dinner together -- sitting down, all of us, talking. Sure, for those years, my responses were snarky, but the lines of communication were always there. One day, the veil lifted and I was a normal human again! And there was my family, happy to see a happy person again! :) Ahh, teenage hormones. Couldn't pay me to go back, LOL!

anneofalamo 11-23-2012 01:11 PM

I have 4 and love it! We can talk about things so much deeper now. The hardest part to me is watching them become more independent (what we are teaching them to be) but communication is such the key!! I also want to say, it seems that the younger years flashed by, and these years go so much quicker. They still want to be kids and play and I so encourage that! Happy Day to you and your son Darcy!

God bless you. I have a 14 yo DS and a tween 12 yo DD, and my hair is growing grayer by the day. Every day is a challenge of some sort. But DS has Asperger's, so that's a whole nother story.

I tell them if they don't behave I'll do something to embarass them, because that's what mom's do best. Ha!
