My grandfather is gone...
 

He passed away yesterday about 5 pm. I'm still just processing this I think. I guess because it was unexpected. Well he was 85 so it wasn't totally unexpected, but he was fine when we saw them last week. My grandmother said he was in his chair and she just thought he was sleeping so he went peacefully which is just what we always wanted for him...he wasn't the kind to waste away in a hospital bed.

I feel very blessed to have had 3 of my grandparents in my life well into adulthood. (My mother's father was killed by a drunk driver in 1952) But in the past 3 months I've lost my maternal grandmother and now my paternal grandfather. It's like everything I've always knows is changing.

My Papaw was a good good Christian man. He and my Mamaw just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this summer. He was a decorated WWII vet and one of the patriarchs of our small little community. I honestly am having a hard time imagining my world without him.

But I KNOW he's now in a much much better place..I know that all the aches and pains and infirmities that he hated so much these past few years are gone now and I know that I will see him again one day. Until then though he will be missed so much.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, Nikki. Both of my grandfathers passed a couple of years ago. Its still hard to think of life without them. It does sound like he had a very peaceful passing though.

Oh Nikki, I am so sorry for your loss sweetie. I too have lost 3 of my grandparents and losing my maternal grandmother in 2002 was one of the hardest things I have ever had to endure and I am just now able to scrap pictures of her every once in a while. Thank you so much everyone...we just got home from a long long day. We had visitation tonight at the funeral home and I'm not kidding I think there was close to 300 people that came through. He lived a long full life and was respected by so many people.
