How far would you travel to meet digi friends?

I've been seeing everyone having little meet and greets! I want to do one, I've only met 2 digi scrappers before. My friend Amber, who I got started doing it and Amy (clearskies), she walked up to my yard sale in Alaska.

So, how far would you travel?

P.S. I'm in Michigan, if anyone wants to get together sometime. :)

xboxmom 01-13-2010 08:23 PM

I would travel, but I would totally want it to be somewhere really fun. Like Vegas or in a dreamer world Hawaii! ;)

mrshobbes 01-13-2010 08:24 PM

I've only met one, my friend Jenni, last July, in Florida. I've forgotten the distance, but I was in Key West and she in Miami, so we met in the middle in Islamorada, lol. About a 2-hour drive for both of us. :D

ETA: Okay just checked, it was about 85 miles :) But I imagine I'd travel up to 100 miles.

Lauren Reid 01-13-2010 08:24 PM

I met 2 digi chicks when we were still living in Boston, both of them were in town visiting family. SO fun (and surreal!)!

I'd LOVE to put together a TEXAS digi retreat so we could all hook up for a scrappy weekend somewhere! I know we have lots of digi chicks down here (although i do realize TX is ginormous!... i'm down in Houston).

newfiemountiewife 01-13-2010 08:26 PM

I drove to Chicago from Newfoundland, Canada...about 5 days of driving for a playgroup meet up! We stopped at my mom's in Ontario for a few days to break it up, but it took us about 4 1/2 days to drive straight home from Chicago.

nesser1981 01-13-2010 08:26 PM

I know lots of girls are near Chicago, I've never been, but I'm close enough I'd totally go for a scrap weekend. Or just a day visit, I keep telling DH we need to go for a weekend.

do it again, I'll drive to Chicago to see you!

xboxmom 01-13-2010 08:28 PM

The Best thing to do is just pick the date and book it. Then post that you are going and when and where. Then everyone else that wants to can go and book it and try and book a hotel close by or share hotel rooms. When we went over Christmas I was able to get a room at MGM for 71$ and that was on a weekend, its much cheaper on weekdays.

Sheana 01-13-2010 08:30 PM

I eventually plan to go to Chicago to meet Laura (emmasmommy) which is about 400 miles from me (I'm in East Central Ohio).

I'm hoping to get down this summer, I'm going to mom's and I have a bunch of my playgroup friends that live in Chicago, so I'm hoping to hook up with them again. Some of them I've seen twice now and they really are friends for life.

I'll update you once we get closer to the summer, I'd LOVE to see you!

neenee 01-13-2010 08:34 PM

I am all for that Texas one!!!!

I have a brother in Kingwood Lauren........so, you are within my visiting distance! :p

That would rock! I would love that!

lovely1m 01-13-2010 08:41 PM

I have never met a digi friend, but have met friends from my online mommy group. Only ones that live near me though, one 75 miles away and one 250 miles away. I was supposed to meet one when I was in Texas, but she wasn't able to met up after all.

Traci Reed 01-13-2010 08:42 PM

I would go far to meet someone I talk to regularly. If it's a meet up or something I would drive a couple hours :)

lauren grier 01-13-2010 08:46 PM

you'll go to chicago but you won't come see ME jamie ?? pssht LOL I see how it is :p

and I've travelled 3000+ miles :] to see my wifey. my bff.. my shawna.. for 3 weeks. and I need to see her again stat.

oh and dani too ^_^ she was there LOL.. we went to applebees :p

Nathalie 01-13-2010 08:51 PM

I would travel as far as circumstances allow. If I ever do a trip to the US I would be disappointed if I couldn't meet someone from the digiscrapper world!

Having said that, I have only met one digiscrapper here in Australia and I would loooove to catch up with Fee and Justine but I haven't been up further north.

You shouldn't live so far away! LOL!

lauren grier 01-13-2010 08:58 PM

I'm closer to her than chicago lol.. she's only 31hrs (vs the 5 days drive) away ^_^

Stacey42 01-13-2010 08:58 PM

Considering I travel 50 miles just to shop someplace besides Wal Mart, I'm willing to go the distance to meet online friends. :) I flew to Detroit a few years back to meet some friends from a mommy board but I'd prefer to drive because I hate flying. 300 miles is probably the furthest I can manage in a car but Amtrak stops only 20 miles away so I can theoretically go to Boston, New York or other major cities on the east coast.

pewtertm 01-13-2010 09:03 PM

For me it would completely depend on the circumstances.

I first met Sharon in Fort Smith...she was there for robotics and so our family drove the 200 miles to see her. And since we are besties, if I ever have the money I'll be thrilled to drive up to KC and see her.

For a meetup, I would probably make a day trip (and if the Dallas peeps ever plan something I WILL make the trip down there). And if the Houston gang ever plans something, I might have to plan a trip to mom's LOL.

newfiemountiewife 01-13-2010 09:06 PM

La, I have up there to get home you know! We'd go East from Chicago then up to New Brunswick and cross back there. I also plan to shop in Maine for a couple of days :)

Paula 01-13-2010 09:08 PM

Well, since Salt Lake is only about four hours from me, I voted over 200 miles. I would love to hook up with some of my Utah buddies sometime when I'm there visiting my sister in Orem!

Or even some of my Vegas friends.

Locally, I would drive up to 50 miles ... I'm pretty sure you live in my radius *hint, hint* ;)

lizzyfizzy 01-13-2010 09:12 PM

i would drive pretty far to meet a good friend online and i would even fly to meet a good friend! i keep saying i'm going to cali, so i can meet lots of you at once!

p.s. i'm going to canada and seattle in may to see lyle and sheri!! i so excited!!!!!

SmallMoments 01-13-2010 09:15 PM

Where in Michigan are you? I'm like 30 minutes from the central IN/MI border.

I think a lot would depend on where it was, if I had another reason to be there/friends to visit, etc.

tuneskids 01-13-2010 09:16 PM

The furthest I have gone to meet someone online is 164 miles, from where I used to live (Kamloops, BC) down to Bellingham, WA - to meet some friends from a online moms forum, back in 2000.
Furthest I have gone to met a digi-scrapper is about 19 miles, to meet KristinCB (that's how far apart we live).

I have a friend who topped both those, travelling 1258 miles from Pheonix to come up to Kamloops to meet me ... for my wedding!!! She was my matron of honor, we had never met in person but had talked online daily for 2 years and on the phone weekly for about 1 year. She was my best friend in essence, so she didn't hesitate to come up for it.

newfiemountiewife 01-13-2010 09:22 PM

We had one fly from Australia for our board gathering! We had 20 people from all around the world. It was neat.

joelsgirl 01-13-2010 09:29 PM

PUHlease no mass get togethers until I get back on US soil this July!

I am TOTALLY up for a Chicagoland gathering. It would be a 12 hour drive for me, but I could probably talk Joel into letting me fly, we'll see.

aly321 01-13-2010 09:30 PM

I would LOVE to meet so many of you... I swear that Robin needs to have a Sweet Shoppe Retreat somewhere. Just pick the place and dates...then we could ALL meet up!!!
I am in Utah, so anyone here I am game to get together. Lydia and I are already talking about it, and I know that Libby is coming this year to see some here! :)

Leila 01-13-2010 09:35 PM

Well, we rerouted our road trip to SC last summer so we could stop at Heather Roselli's place in TN. She's about 10 hours from me. Normally, we (meaning Andrew--I don't actually drive) wouldn't go that far, but it was a few minor changes in the route we normally take to SC.

I'd say the limit for me would be about two hours. I go down to Schaumburg a couple times a year for get togethers with some ladies from another site I'm on, and that's about two hours from me.

Ok, we must arrange the Chicagoland gathering around this LOL. It'll be early July before I go anywhere anyway, the kids aren't out of school until later in June.

Melissa Bennett 01-13-2010 09:45 PM

Well in a little over 2 weeks I will be in South Carolina and it looks like no one is from there. LOL!! I am hoping to meet up with Manda though after I move!! Woot!!

lovely1m 01-13-2010 09:59 PM

My bff online lives only about 400 miles from me, I am regularly only an hour away from her, yet we have never gotten to met. It sucks so much, it never works out.

I'm over on the MI/OH border, between Ann Arbor & Toledo.

Like 5 miles from Cabelas.

rach3975 01-13-2010 10:06 PM

Well, there's what I'm willing to do and what I could convince DH to go along with (ie, watch the kids for). I could probably convince him to do it if I could get there and back the same day. So if anyone ever plans a big meet up in the DC area or within a 2-3 hour drive, I'm in.

Some day I plan to go to a teeny tiny town in IL to meet Deena.........

mpatry 01-13-2010 10:17 PM

I've never met any fellow digiscrappers... though I'd love to do a get together in Edmonton, Alberta with anyone else willing to... maybe this spring/summer? Edmonton's about 3 hrs from us- that's about my limit for traveling (I hate driving, but could take military transportation to Edmonton, that's if hubby couldn't drive me... lol).

nun69 01-13-2010 10:26 PM

I'm in Illinois too...we're in Chicago about once a month. I had totally planned on getting together with Leu and whoever else was game this summer anyway. I've traveled about 100 mi. to meet an online friend. We get together about once a month now at a central location for both of us. Sheana and I have been planning on meeting for what, the last 3 years now? :p
