Pantone 2021 color of the year

PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.

Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow sparkling with vivacity, a warming yellow shade imbued with solar power.

Ultimate Gray is emblematic of solid and dependable elements which are everlasting and provide a firm foundation.
These two independent colors that come together to create an aspirational color pairing, conjoining deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day.

So how do we feel about the 2021 color...well colors of the year?

It's giving me "you are my sunshine" vibes. I like both colors but I just feel kind of meh about them being the colors of the year. I don't know I just can't pin point why I feel me about them.

Yellow is my least favourite color and this shade is too bright for me. Not a fan. I like grey though.

rach3975 12-10-2020 12:50 AM

Nope. The gray is fine but nothing special. The yellow is way too bright. I wouldn't wear it or decorate with it and would only use it in small doses on a scrapbook page. I feel like they tried too hard to choose something cheerful for 2021 after the kind of year 2020 has been, but it's too soon for so much sunshine and happiness. If it had to be yellow (which is never a favorite for me) I feel like a pale yellow would have been better.

JoCee 12-10-2020 01:28 AM

hmmm, doesn't rock my boat at all. the combination is nice but not something I would choose/use as 'colour/s of the year'!

but glad they were trying for something uplifting after this mess of a year

I agree. Not a fan either. I'm not a fan of yellow in general and this one is, like everyone else is saying, too bright.

joelsgirl 12-10-2020 05:49 AM

I LOVE yellow, especially paired with gray. I'd love to decorate with those colors, but my husband would never have it.

SweetChar 12-10-2020 07:01 AM

 Makes me feel grouchy to say it, but I'm not a yellow fan. lol

Kimberly27 12-10-2020 12:57 PM

I love it. I love the yellow and gray. I love the gray with small splashes of yellow as an accent. Our bedroom comforter is white with grays and yellows with yellow pillows...now it isn't this bright but I don't mind it.
It makes me think of Big Bird, cheerful, happy sunshine...fun :) It is definitely a like it or hate it color though so I don't think it is a great choice for the color of the year.

I've always loved the color gray and I don't mind yellow. I think adults who like yellow are strong in who they are: yellow gets so much hate that admitting you like it takes courage. Plus, the color yellow represents happiness and optimism. This year, don't we need happiness wherever we can find it?

Leablahblah 12-10-2020 02:39 PM

That's too bright for my taste. I prefer more subdued tones.

Kiana 12-10-2020 04:53 PM

Too bright for me too, but I do like greys and yellows together

jaye 12-10-2020 05:01 PM

I like gray....2 of three bedrooms and my living room are gray but this shade does nothing for me. Yellow, I like it but again it depends on the shade and this one I am not a fan of, too bright.

I LOVE the yellow! I love to collect bee and beehive decor so this is perfect!

tanyiadeskins 12-10-2020 06:22 PM

It's certainly better than the awful blue Kona Fabrics picked as their color of the year for quilting.

3BluEyedBabi 12-11-2020 04:04 PM

I'm not a fan of yellow, either. Grey is ok, but I wouldn't choose it for color of the year.

JennNtheBoys 12-12-2020 12:31 PM

bright and cheery color with a classic neutral .... after the year we just had I am all for the 2021 color(s) giving me feelings of cheerfulness, along with a tiny reminder of 'dim' to keep me grounded :D :)

Oh good! I am not the only one  I adore yellow and grey paired together!

That vibrant yellow is not something I could surround myself with. Kind of like a red wall....can't do that either. The color is too stimulating to me. But...from time to time, I do love the color splash and have two outfits with the yellow/grey theme.

HavaDrPepper 12-13-2020 11:21 AM

Nothing wrong with yellow and grey together, just not that yellow.

Of course, I'm usually not a fan of any of the color of the year picks they make!

Dalis 12-13-2020 11:49 PM

grey and yellow is my fav. combination EVER!

norton94 12-14-2020 12:07 AM

I love yellow!!! And gray is a great color in combo... that said I wonder if they did this combo because 2021 could go either way: happiness and sunshine or gray and drab? LOL I'm going to hope for the happy yellow :)

craftytam 12-18-2020 04:08 PM

I'm not a huge fan of yellow other than in nature. I don't mind the gray & yellow together, but the yellow is not something I'd use other than an accent. I usually don't care for the "color of the year" picks. LOL!

Neverland Scraps 12-20-2020 03:39 PM

Love yellow - it's such a happy color and most needed going in to 2021!!:wub:

HeatherB 12-20-2020 05:28 PM

I love yellow in nature, it is one of my favourite colours to pair with other plants in the garden. I don't think I would decorate my home with it though. I'll have to check out the grey though - my oldest is thinking of painting his room grey but hasn't picked out the exact shade yet.

YepBrook 12-21-2020 02:44 PM

I absolutely love yellow and gray. This was a win for me! I do think their pairing is a bit off, something about their exact shade of yellow is off. But in general I think it’s inspiring!!!

Sherri Tierney 01-02-2021 10:44 PM

I adore yellow and grey together. I'm not sure that this exact shade of yellow makes my heart sing, but it could be my monitor as well. Over all, I don't think you can ever go wrong with yellow or turquoise and grey is a staple in my wardrobe.
