Think Outside The Box - June 29th

When I saw this article on amazing things to do with sidewalk chalk, I squee'd because it's exactly the kind of project that I would love to do with my kiddoes and then scrap! When I posted it for the Babes, I started to worry that maybe this challenge was TOO challenging, but man, did they rise to the challenge in this week's sample layouts. Each one is SUCH a creative take on the spirit of the inspiration and I am so proud to show you just how outside the box you can push yourself with our challenges to come up with really beautiful pages. This challenge *IS* optional because it's our 5th challenge this month, but I really do hope that many of you will get out the chalk and "play" with your ideas (and kids) this week!

As usual, you'll need to scrap a layout for this challenge and post in this thread by midnight EST on July 5th, 2014 for your chance to win your choice of a kit from our Featured Designer Heather Roselli's shoppe!

Don't forget, even if you miss the deadline for this week's Featured Designer giveaway, you can still earn Sweet Rewards for completing all of this month's TOTB challenges too and posting in our Sweet Rewards tracker thread for the month! You MAY use this challenge in lieu of a challenge posted earlier this month if you're still trying to earn points! Coupons are automatically sent to everyone who completes an entire month of challenges, so don't forget to track your completed challenges each month so you don't miss those sweet discounts in the shoppe!

Before I go, I'm proud to announce our TOTB winner for last week's challenge...

Congrats sastampink, you can check out this thread for details on how to claim your prize!

Thanks so much for playing along with us week after week & happy scrapping!

Robin

Oh my goodness, this is really a challenge this week. Way to raise the bar!

Erica 06-29-2014 02:31 AM

OOOohh, I love the idea. Can I cheat and use digital chalk? I have no drive, pavement or garden to chalk on.

mimisgirl 06-29-2014 03:25 AM

This is totally awesome! We already have so many ideas. Yay!

Erica, the challenges are a stepping off point, and can be interpreted however you feel inspired. (I'm sure Robin will correct me if I'm wrong). Sugarbabe Jenn's layout was done in front of a teachers chalk board. Rebecca's son did his on a small board. We'd love for you to try something with real chalk, but if digital chalk is all you have, go for it - get creative - we can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

My page was actually made with black poster board and sidewalk chalk. We hung ours on the walk to mimic chalkboard (glad it was convincing :)) and I cropped the photo so the wall wasn't showing. Our simple and cheap process is in my journaling, which you can read a bit better larger size. :)

I started doing a digital version of Kennedy with her butterfly wings but was able to get outside and use actual chalk.

Can I submit a layout I've done previously? It's perfect for this challenge!

Unfortunately, all of your challenge layouts have to be created new for the challenge and cant be resubmissions of previous layouts. You can use the photos again if they work!

Thanks Jacinda, I am on a mission to complete every challenge this year, but was panicking. It's virtually impossible for me to use actual chalk, so I'll do my best digitally.

This is awesome! LOVE the babe layouts!!!

GraceLee 06-29-2014 11:49 AM

Do we need to complete 5 layouts this month to qualify for the coupon?

Erica 06-29-2014 01:55 PM

All drawn by my very shaky hand.

No problem! I think I have more photos that I didn't use on my other layout that I can scrap for this challenge! :)

This is the fifth challenge this month. You are only required to do four challenges.

OK, thank you! I do think it's a fun challenge, but I don't think my little ones would cooperate enough for it. Sort of like the baby in a mug photos... I tried so hard to pose them but they just refused to lie still for a second!

jak 06-30-2014 05:44 AM

No footpath or driveway art but I managed to get my son to draw on a chalkboard.

When I read the challenge, I thought I was out due to having adult/teen children who would not stage a picture for me even if I begged. Then I remembered this picture from last summer. And it's a rare non-pocket layout from me:

Kim, that is perfection. Way to think back on what could work for this!

Yes, I know the feeling. My five year old is rarely still. Now my soon to be eight month old is the same lol!

Saar 06-30-2014 12:07 PM

Here's mine.
This was a real challenge for me. We don't have kids and we don't have sidewalk chalk at our house.
But I found this photo of a smiling heart my co-worker drew for me on our board.

mimisgirl 07-02-2014 03:00 AM

dont know how legal it is to do 2 pages, but this one wanted to play too, and since she cooperated this time I just have to include her page!

You know what would be fun for that? A sasquatch layout. A bunch of trees and a blurry image of the elusive sasquatch. I call my nephew the chupacabra since it's impossible to photograph him. Good for those "life out of focus" titles.

Now that's some really cooperative kids! I know that concrete gets crazy hot, we had the same problem.

I love this idea. I I think I might have to lift it. I have that gorgeous julie billingsley firework kit and no plans for the forth of july so we are stuck home with toddlers. The best we are going to be able to do is being outside in the yard to see the fire works if possible. Plus my dogs do not like the noise. My poor furbabys.

No kids, no sidewalks full of chalk in my neighborhood, so I took another take on this challenge. I took a photo of my own shade on the sidewalk and worked with some digital chalk on that.

sastampink 07-03-2014 08:54 AM

Thats a great take on this weeks challenge.

drachenmeadc 07-03-2014 11:28 AM

This was really difficult to me. First I try to take some pictures with my son, but this didnt work for me. So I need some new models with a lot of patience:
a little goat as Little Red Riding Hood and a wolf in sheeps clothing.

Couldn't find any chalk on the footpath but found a few photos of my Grandson.

Funny, I already had a few sets of pictures to choose from. This was when we made a "race track" out of chalk earlier in the week.

These are amazing ladies! So happy to see so many of you not only playing along but doing an incredible job of it too!
