QOTW - Fave breakfast foods?

Hey everyone. I was just sitting at my desk here at work this morning and realized I still need to drink my morning protein shake.
I have one every morning at work.....
So that got me thinking.

What's your favorite breakfast food? Is it simple like fruit or oatmeal or are you all about the loaded platter of bacon & pancakes?
Tell us!

LynnZant 09-22-2021 11:00 AM

Cheerios. Every. Single. Day. I'm so boring!

Lidia G 09-22-2021 11:28 AM

Double expresso when I get up and then maybe two hours later I'll have breakfast which is anything from a slice of rye bread with marmalade or a full bacon and egg breakfast maybe once or twice a week. I've never been able to eat when I get up. My mom tried and tried to get me to eat before going to school but she eventually gave up and just packed me a slice of bread with peanut butter or jam so I could have it when I got to school.

angiekey 09-22-2021 12:54 PM

This is a tough question, Kiana! It all depends on how I feel when I wake up. Some days, I’m perfectly content with a latte and a croissant. Other days, if I fast when I wake and have a late breakfast after hours of working on stuff, I want something with major protein, in which case my favorite is a breakfast skillet. Breakfast potatoes topped with chopped bacon, peppers, onion, and topped with a couple eggs over easy. Pop those yolks and let it run down into all that yummy goodness… I’m a happy girl!

But I rarely eat like that. Most mornings I have a protein bar or a bowl of this protein granola from Costco.

JillW 09-22-2021 01:09 PM

I've never been a breakfast person - or maybe I should rephrase that and say "during the week" I'm not a breakfast person. But, on the weekends, I just love going to our favorite greasy spoon for a hearty breakfast. Most weekends days that is the only real meal we eat.

carrie1977 09-22-2021 01:11 PM

I'm not a huge breakfast eater but I've learned that I need to have a little something...
protein shake & a banana
yogurt and fresh fruit

Buuuuut...sometimes I do like to splurge on french toast or a breakfast burrito or juevos rancheros (usually if we are out of town).

Aren't you hungry an hour later from just cereal?

tanyiadeskins 09-22-2021 01:39 PM

I'm not a breakfast person either. My breakfast is usually 2 cups of coffee with Italian sweet cream creamer lol. When I do get hungry though, I really like granola and Noosa yogurt.

Wow. I'd say that was disciplined. Is there a reason?

Leablahblah 09-22-2021 01:41 PM

Most days it's a slice of buttered toast, slice of deli turkey, scrambled eggs with shredded cheese.

Some days it's oatmeal but I'm not much of a fan.

Some days we have sliced brioche or buttered toast with jam that we dunk in a bowl of chocolate milk. Typical French breakfast.

Yeah a big breakfast is not my thing during the week when I go to work

I love breakfast! I have been addicted to Kashi’s GO peanut butter crunch cereal lately. A little goes a long way, it’s easy, and it holds me over until lunch. But I gain weight easily and it’s catching up on me so I have switched to my favorite carb-free breakfast: I make a skillet with eggs, spinach and sautéed mushrooms with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese and grape tomatoes on top. That holds me until lunch also.

And coffee. Always!

Sounds like my coworker. She just comes in and drinks coffee until lunch. lol

That carb-free breakfast sounds yummy minus the mushrooms.

My dad used to make me omelets before school until I got an ulcer when I was 16. The doc said I had to eat bland food "like Cheerios" and no more omelets, so they just stuck. Having to drink Mylanta before every meal has really made me not want to ever get another hole in my gut.

My stomach hurt all the time for weeks. Especially after I ate. We should have owned stock in antacid companies because of that. lol

I am on weight watchers now so since January I have had 2 eggs and cinnamon toast (45 calorie whole wheat bread, spray butter, 1 tsp of brown sugar on each piece and a ton of cinnamon). I was putting a little mozzarella cheese but I stopped...no cheese just eggs with a little salt. I drink a can of coke zero with it too. No coffee here for me.

I will splurge every now and then with pancakes or waffles but can't eat bacon or sausage. The lack of gall bladder makes it hard. I also love Chickfila breakfast minis too...yummy!! Donuts are my kryptonite...I love them and eat them on occasion but very rarely.

jaye 09-22-2021 06:14 PM

I will usually bring some yogurt to work. I can’t eat when I first get up. It’s the walk the dog, have my coffee, get ready. I start at 7:30 and usually eat between 9-9:30.

oh man, I love me some donuts too

joelsgirl 09-22-2021 06:39 PM

I don't love breakfast; biscuits and gravy is my favorite breakfast, but that is not something I can eat on the regular.

There's a lady who makes whole wheat bread that is delicious, and I buy a loaf from her once a week. The morning I pick it up, I use up all of my self control to only have two slices. The rest of the week I alternate between oatmeal & eggs.

Melissa Urban, the founder of the Whole 30, says that you don't have to eat "breakfast" foods for breakfast, but I think she's wrong. ; )

Oh, I hope not. They are not fun especially if a kid likes pizza and soda and, well, most party foods. I hope she feels better soon.

We thought our middle daughter had an ulcer too - nope, our family just has to be weird. She had appendicitis for about 5 years - it would just come and go and therefore they never caught it. She had scopes, ultrasounds, you name it they tried to figure it out. She was losing weight (120 to 94 pounds)...finally she was having monthly toss your cookie moments that lasted for 24 hours. The last one I found her passed out on the bathroom floor, rushed her to the ER and several tests, confused doctors and finally a CT scan they said it was her appendix. The pain presented in her stomach. The surgeon pressed on her appendix and asked her if it hurt there, she said a bit, but her stomach hurt worse. The surgeon said that many doctors do not believe that chronic appendicitis exists, but he said that proof will be after her appendix is gone. No more appendix and she is a very active, healthy, cross-fit athlete. Now she can eat all the foods and she is THRILLED!

just_jo 09-22-2021 07:44 PM

My favorite breakfasts are oatmeal with fruit (lately nectarine, blueberries, and raspberries) with Ripple milk and a splash of Truvia vanilla or lightly scrambled eggs (4 eggs with only 1 yolk) and Dave's thin-sliced bread toasted with a bit of strawberry jam. Both last me a while, but especially the eggs.

Favorite splurge breakfast is donuts - apple fritter to be specific.

mywisecrafts 09-22-2021 09:49 PM

Waffles, Pancakes, Breakfast tacos (specifically chorizo, potato & egg--man I sure do miss these from San Antonio). Let's not forget the Bacon, crispy

I'm kind of a creature of habit when it comes to weekday breakfasts. I either with greek yogurt with berries or a Pure protein bar ... with coffee of course!

renatasluis 09-23-2021 03:32 AM

Yoghurt with muesli. Or what is normal in
The Netherlands brown bread with cheese
Or meat or nutella or jam .

littlekiwi 09-24-2021 04:32 AM

I was super bad at having breakfast for god knows how long....figured given when I was waking up it was easier to make an early lunch but I always ended up hungry. Now I have a fruity, flaky, oaty cereal that I found at my local bulk store and have loved it. If I have more time or have done prep I tend to go for a more protein based breakfast

StacyLynn 09-24-2021 09:04 AM

I love all breakfast foods.... for ANY meal!
We do waffles and pancakes for dinner.
Omelets, hash browns, scrapple for Dinner....

I food prep for the week and make egg muffin cups and whole wheat pancake muffins and sometimes it breakfast and sometimes its lunch. and even dinner if no one else is home. Even oatmeal or some pork roll.....

I don't know about picking just one as a fave.... maybe scrambled eggs with veggies and meats and cheese? So I can have a bunch...lol

Optavia Creamy Double Peanut Butter Crisp Bar. Every. Single. Day. They are my favorite.

lovely1m 09-24-2021 02:38 PM

I don't like breakfast food much. I normally just drink coffee. I do love crepes though if that counts.

craftytam 09-24-2021 07:25 PM

I'm not a huge breakfast fan. When I'm home, I always have my cups of tea. Sometimes I have a handful of nuts, and maybe some dry granola. Once in a while I'll make a smoothie. I know I feel better when I eat, so I at least try to eat something.

If we go out for breakfast, I usually have something like crab cake eggs benedict. Yum! Hubby thinks it's gross that I don't get a "normal" breakfast.

I do love a good breakfast burrito - eggs, papas, beans, avocado, and a good salsa! mmmm...now I'm hungry! :)

Ponytails 09-24-2021 08:23 PM

Usually I just have coffee in the morning, but when I do eat I make a homemade version of the egg mcmuffin type of breakfast sandwich or just a bowl of Cheerios.

KingsQueen82 09-24-2021 11:19 PM

Breakfast is my favorite meal to eat but not to make! I am a night owl and I trudge through the mornings expending as little energy as humanly possible! Lol! I pretty much always order breakfast when we go out to eat b/c I get to enjoy it without the work! But at home, I usually skip it! Terrible I know... Brunch on the other hand, that's where it's at! French toast and bacon, crepes with Nutella and bananas, any kind of omelet with hash browns, "dippy eggs" and toast, yum! Btw, who else calls sunny-side up eggs "dippy eggs"? We do not say that in WI where I'm from but I learned it years ago from a friend in Pennsylvania. It makes me smile every time I think of it so I've adopted it into my own vocabulary now. :)

knittingbec 09-24-2021 11:50 PM

Yum, there are some great ideas here that make me want to expand my breakfast repertoire!

At a restaurant, I will order Eggs Benedict 99% of the time.
At home, my favorite thing to have is toast- sometimes with soft boiled/jammy eggs.
I usually do "hot breakfast" for my kids 3 days-- oatmeal, french toast, eggs, frozen waffle, breakfast burrito, etc.-- and they're on their own the other two-- cereal, toast, yogurt and/or fruit.
