My Four Hens Photo Actions - Need Recommendations

So, who here uses PS actions from My Four Hens Photography? I noticed she is having a 40% off sale today. I'm looking for some good all-purpose photo actions--anything other than the black/white ones. What are your favorites?

Priscilla 03-24-2010 08:10 PM

ooooh

sale? really?

I want suggestions too

(you do have her awesome freebies right?)

Oh, fo sho, girl! I love me some freebies! :)

scrapperjade 03-24-2010 08:14 PM

Priscilla - you have to go to her fan page on FB to get the coupon code - otherwise they are still full price on her website...

lovely1m 03-24-2010 08:19 PM

Here's the ones I own:
The Photographer's Toolbox
Randomly Vintage
Falling for Black and White
Boy Theory

jenn7 03-24-2010 08:23 PM

I love Sarah's actions. I really want her Baby Magic and Elements Color Poppers.

Two I have that I love are Fabric Softener and Sweet Cream from Soft Spring. Gorgeous!

Ebony 03-24-2010 08:23 PM

Oh noooo! Haha. I've been waiting for this sale for ages and now it happens the day before I go on holidays. This is bad. Haha

jenn7 03-24-2010 08:32 PM

jenn7 03-24-2010 08:36 PM

Shawna 03-24-2010 08:37 PM

I love Sarah's actions, I picked up Light & Bright and Faded Beauty a few days ago with FB & CM coupon codes. I just may have to go back for some more off my wish list, which includes most of the sets from her complete packages 3 and 4!

kendallt 03-24-2010 08:37 PM

So, what'd you get??

jessica31876 03-24-2010 08:43 PM

I absolutely adore them all but being as though I use PSP I cant use them :(

hollyxann 03-24-2010 08:44 PM

So I'm thinking about getting both of the Photographers tool kits...and one other one
Which one?
Hazy Days
Not so Black & White
Light & Bright
Nature Lovers

HELP! lol and fast.

Joana1n 03-24-2010 08:47 PM

WHY have i never heard of this company before?! off to check it out.

Sheana 03-24-2010 08:47 PM

I LOVE Sarah's actions! I own a ton of them but lately Little Yummies are my favorite!

I just got Light & Bright but haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but Hazy Days is at the top of my list right now! It's SO hard to decide!

hollyxann 03-24-2010 08:53 PM

And I'm extremely indecisive.
I'd just splurge and buy a bunch or one of the collections but if I want any money for Saturday here at SSD, then I have to conserve. lol
I plan on wishlisting what I don't buy and eventually buying them...but what should I buy right now? What can't I live without for the next few weeks?

hollyxann 03-24-2010 08:56 PM

I will definitely be buying Baby Magic eventually.

rach3975 03-24-2010 08:56 PM

I bought the Photographer's Toolkit a few months ago but finally learned how to use it well yesterday. Love it! Thanks for the heads up--off to get the coupon!

Jess, on her site, she lists some that are PSE compatible. Did you see those?

misfitinmn 03-24-2010 09:05 PM

I wish she had more that were PSE compatible because her actions are delicious!!

I splurged. I kept wanting new ones so I figured getting The Complete Package 4 was the way to go. :)

Whoa! You did splurge! :p I ended up going with
The Photographers Tool Box
Elements Color Poppers
Soft Spring

Can't wait to play!!

rach3975 03-24-2010 09:25 PM

I'm definitely getting Photographer's Tool Kit 2, and I'm having trouble picking my 2nd. I'm leaning toward Up the Ante, but Light and Bright and Elements Color Poppers look great, too.

Mandy Reger 03-24-2010 09:30 PM

oooh I heart actions, I am going to have to check them out!

MissKim 03-24-2010 09:34 PM

I have PSE (and almost all Sarah's actions). The ones I use the most are her Toolbox actions, Color Poppers, and Falling for B/W. I love "Rain Puddle" in the B/W set. Amazing.

kscwgirl 03-24-2010 09:38 PM

I love Fabric Softner and whichever sets Glee & Fruit Punch are in.

Jessica-Jennilyn Designs has some fabulous actions that come as both PS actions and PSP scripts. She's at Sunshine Studio Scraps for now, but she's moving to a new store on 4/1.

I do, too. I open and use PSE just for her actions.

hollyxann 03-24-2010 09:45 PM

So I bought both Photographers Tool Kits, and Falling for Black & White
I will be going back for Hazy Days, and Light & Bright...maybe this weekend, maybe next week.

jenn7 03-24-2010 09:48 PM

Horrible enabling here!!!! I must stop reading this thread. I bought too much already.... off to add to my wish list. ;)

rach3975 03-24-2010 10:41 PM

I already had Photographer's Toolbox and Falling For B&W, and I just bought Photographer's ToolKit 2 and Up the Ante. I'm so tempted to go back for Light & Bright, but I'm trying to hold out.

I just got the Photographer's Toolkit and it says there's a tutorial on her website, but I can't seem to find it. Anyone able to link me up?

misfitinmn 03-24-2010 10:52 PM

Curses. I got 2 - Falling for Black & White and Up the Ante...gah! Didn't need to spend. Glad I had a discount code! Now must go to bed and endure a long day of work tomorrow before I can come home and edit pics!

joelsgirl 03-24-2010 11:05 PM

I love Falling for B&W. I use it on all of my B&W conversions.

I own the Vintage Retro, but then I realized that I don't actually like my photos to look retro, lol. I like them all bright and happy, so I purchased the Elements Color Poppers, but I haven't actually installed them yet. {Some might say I'm lazy, i think i'm well, yes, lazy is a good word}

wvasweetness 03-24-2010 11:23 PM

I have... them all! My fave set is the Toolbox, my fave actions of all time are Raisen Bread and Squeaky Clean. <3

rach3975 03-24-2010 11:33 PM

LOL, Kellie. A few months ago I bought Falling for B&W thinking that maybe I'd like converting my photos to b&w if they were done with an amazing b&w action, but I still like them to be colorful and happy. Why go B&W when you can color pop instead?

Lydia--I was browsing another action site, and it was through reading descriptions of their actions, watching the video tutorials, and reading blog posts that I had my aha moment and started understanding how to use the Photographer's Toolbox. The site was MCP actions. The tutorials that led to my aha moment are the 3 about understanding layer masks on this page and the one about the Eye Doctor action on this page. I'm still a PS newbie, so I wasn't getting adjustment layers and how to mask on them.

scrapperjade 03-24-2010 11:58 PM

I use Elements so I bought the Elements Toolbox - I figured they would be used the most!

Thanks Rachel. I basically understand adjustment layers and masks, so I'm okay with that part. I've been playing around with the Toolbox actions, and they seem pretty straightforward. I was just hoping to get a few tips and tricks straight from Sarah on how to make them work the best. :)

kendallt 03-25-2010 08:23 AM

By the way, not that I mean to prolong the enabling or anything :p, but I noticed that Sarah has extended the 40% off sale through Saturday.

Also, if any of you who are new to Sarah's products decide to buy anything, I have a favor to ask. I just read on her website that if you'll put a note in the Paypal transaction saying that I (Kendall Tubbs) referred you, I can get a GC to her store. Then, you can get your friends to refer you, and the cycle continues! :)

scrapmommaof3 03-25-2010 08:52 AM

I love Sarah's actions too!

HeatherKS 03-25-2010 10:06 AM

Thanks a lot Kendall. :p I bought the complete package 4. I was adding things to my cart individually until I realized I might as well just suck it up and buy the whole thing. lol

My fave that I already own has to be Chocolate Brownie from the Shades of Grey collection. It's perfect when you want that b&w look but need it to have a hint of brown to coordinate with a specific kit. :) I've used it over and over and over. :)
