Designers: new kit ideas

Ladies, if any of you are looking for inspiration for new kit ideas, here are two themes I really could use.

1. Tall ships: this year is the bicentennial of the War of 1812, a celebration that will last until 2014. The US and British Navies are governments are sending their tall ships to multiple East Coast cities and along the Great Lakes to Detroit. I'm talking mega photo opportunities that are begging to be scrapped.

2. Train kits for adult enthusiasts: there are lots of kits for kid-themed train sets. Any chance we could get kits or elements for model train sets or life-sized engines and passenger cars.

Alternately, if there are existing kits in the store, please send me the links.

Those sound like awesome ideas. I need a turtle themed kit for my daughters nursery. She is in love with turtles.

Libby Pritchett 04-17-2012 10:38 PM

These are some of my favorite threads. Keep the ideas coming... I know that I (and the other designers) appreciate it!

Having said that, I'm gonna let someone else tackle the themes that were already mentioned here. I'm not sure that my style would fit the tall ships or train themes.

Jessica, I don't know if this works for what you're looking for, but I did this kit last year based on Jenni's nursery with turtles:

Libby that may work. I will send it to my daughter and see if she likes it as well. She was talking turtles but she is right at 14 1/2 weeks (Saturday is her 15 week mark) so I still have time and she may change her mind. Of course this is all going on the assumption she is having a boy. She is having a 3-d ultrasound on May 4th I think. It is a gift from her cousin (my niece) in Hawaii since she will obviously not be coming anytime soon because she is also pregnant and due the day before my daughter.

I desperately need college life (both guys and girls)--- Greek life (formals, pledging, big/littles, philanthropic) quad life, dorms, roommates, studying, libraries, hanging out in guy/ girl friendship groups, majors, ACT, financial aid, parties, moving away, etc.

I also need tennis, boys and high school (not grungy nor cute), video games (think boys and gore- call of duty etc.), teen boys and learning to drive.

I would SO love a college life kit...My son is almost done with his freshman year and I feel like I have scrapped so very little of it.

Casting a third vote for a college-themed kit! Especially if it includes reunion options/add-ons... My photos from college are not digital (gasp!), but any current photos I take from trips home are!

breakingbrie 04-18-2012 06:54 AM

I'll throw one out there!! A zombie kit... :D Not sure how you'd do it, but I'd use it if there was one!!

mariewilcox 04-18-2012 07:36 AM

Just pleading again for a softball kit (not young children as in T-ball or baseball) but an older girls (Jr. High/High School) kit ;) I know I keep asking for one and I apologize for being such a PITA about it :D

taracotta7 04-18-2012 08:31 AM

I would like one that would be awesome for Great Wolf Lodge pictures. Think camping/outdoors but also water park stuff. I want to be able to scrap them with the same kit. I think this kit could also be used for camping/lake fun/ pond adventures, ect. I have several camping kits but really wanted to add some water ellies or word art to it. Any takers????????

Oh and the college life one with greek stuffs would be awesome too. I have a several pages I can do with that! :)

BrattyMeg 04-18-2012 08:41 AM

hmmm college

sounds fun ;)

kristijoy 04-18-2012 09:05 AM

I ditto the grown-up train kit! In general I need a few themed kits for scrapping my DH and his hobbies. Things for grown-up guys: Model trains, building models, model rockets, RC toys, working on cars, building tree houses, chopping firewood....

I'm tossing in a vote for college theme as well! My DD is in her second year and I have scrapped ...ohhh about 1 photo of it! LOL and even that one is kind of awful and should be totally redone (ahhh the joys of digital!)

Thanks!

This has been one that's been on my list for YEARS, and I never get around to making it. I was a band geek myself, and now my daughter is in marching band and in the Color Guard. Maybe I'll attempt it this fall when it's closer to marching season again. :)

heathergw 04-18-2012 10:59 AM

Oh... I was in the color guard in HS I would totally use that kit!!!

scrap2day 04-18-2012 11:06 AM

Love these ideas. Although I will probably not "need" the zombie kit. LOL.

I second the water park kit.

Oh I third this idea!!! I have photos from four trips to the Traverse City GWL to scrap!!

I have scrapped exactly TWO layouts of Grant's college life (and he's almost done with 2 years). However, I really only have a few pics. I'm not there to take them!

But a college kit would be fab. I have my own pics, especially sorority pics, that I could scrap.

seatrout 04-18-2012 11:35 AM

I would love a cake decorating kit - grown up version

icing bag
piping tubes
alpha that looks like piped icing
food coloring bottles
paste flowers
sprinkles
choc chips etc

Andrea Gourley 04-18-2012 11:40 AM

I would totally use a zombie kit, too. No clue why, just cause I love zombies.

I know I have begged repeatedly for this one, but I NEED a foodie kit especially take out foodie.

Again, I have also begged for this one, but I NEED a hockey kit.

Darcy Baldwin 04-18-2012 12:28 PM

KIM! Where?!

Freckles 04-18-2012 01:20 PM

I would love a Carnivale kit next February :)
Not carnival as in fair, but think Rio! With lots of colors, confetti, serpentines, dressed up characters,... And aimed towards kids, not adults. The few ones I've seen around all had those Venetian masks in them, but those are not used by kids at all.
Aside from Southern America, Carnivale is celebrated in lots of European countries as well and I know a lot of people were looking for a suitable kit but couldn't find a single one!
Here is the layout I did with our Carnivale photos this year, to give you an idea:
https://www.sweetshoppecommunity.com...7-Carnaval.jpg
And some more typical carnivale photos. It's actually a bit like Halloween, but without the typical orange/purple:

Darcy Baldwin 04-18-2012 01:36 PM

lol Kim - in the US - it's so not a kid's holiday LOL It's Mardi Gras for us, and it seems to be mostly about drinking and getting beads for showing your boobs ROFL

There are some family events, but it is a more adult oriented celebration based mainly in New Orleans

eranslow 04-18-2012 01:44 PM

I second the zombie kit! (or is it third or fourth!? lol)

Oh yeah, I know Mardi Gras from the movies, lol, it's a bit similar!
A lot of adults celebrate carnivale as well here and they end up drinking A LOT too, but for kids it's just a wonderful occasion to play dress up. The people on the vehicles in the parade throw candy at the kids and the kids themselves are loaded with confetti and serpentines to throw back. :) And the day before the carnivale holidays, the kids get to go to school all dressed up. They really love that.

YepBrook 04-18-2012 02:06 PM

Yes, someone needs to do a zombie kit sometime in Fall.

Also, I will jump on the suggestion bandwagon and add this one: Pretty Pretty Please a Disney kit that is rainbow colored... not just black/red/white/yellow etc.

ETA: A mermaid kit, too. My daughter is obsessed with mermaids!

Agreed! There are several great Disney kits here, but I could always use another Disney kit. And I totally agree with the different colors. The only thing at Disney that's red, yellow, and black is Mickey. I love those kits, but I find them hard to use. Kits for the specific lands would be cute-Fantasyland, Adventureland, etc.

lorigaud 04-18-2012 04:02 PM

Love the marching band idea, and how about lacrosse? Are there any of those kits out there?

JulieB146 04-18-2012 04:30 PM

I could TOTALLY go for NOT CUTSIE zombie kit, too. Not uber-adult, either, but not cartoony.

nadauh 04-18-2012 04:44 PM

I would love an outdoor kit but instead of camping I would love to have a lodge theme to it. I stayed at the sequoia lodge hotel last disney trip and I have tons of pics to scrap!

cardinalskate 04-18-2012 05:12 PM

Another nod for the marching band kit. But it's gotta have some color guard stuff in it! I was in color guard during marching season!

Jengerbread88 04-18-2012 05:18 PM

Zombie kit.
Cake decorating kit.
Breakfast kit! Or rather, maybe even something bacon-specific. I know this sounds odd, but you don't know how many bacon pictures I have to scrap. Seriously, about a million.
Can I get some love for a marshmallow kit, yes please? Like, marshmallow shooters, s'mores, etc?

Yeah Libby! I knew you were the go-to-girl for this kit! I can't wait!

And now that you are in a sports mood, I really really really need that HOCKEY kit too!

abm234 04-18-2012 06:20 PM

Thanks to Heather, I can finally stop begging for that Boy Scouts kit! Do you know how exciting it is to see something in the store that you've been waiting for!?!

tettletop20 04-18-2012 06:23 PM

Andrea, seeing you pin all those on pinterest makes me swoon over them each and every time! I think a kit like that would be fabulous!

usaf_wife10 04-18-2012 06:55 PM

I would REALLY love an "older baby" kit. Preferably with boy colors! With things like first tooth, crawling, rolling over, first steps etc. My kiddos are almost 9 months old and I can't seem to find a themed kit for this stage :) Everything I've found has baby pastels, and I prefer bright colors.

I'd also like a multiples (twins, triplets etc) mini kit or add on kit. Kind of specific, but I can wish!

NeverendingJen 04-18-2012 08:23 PM

I'd like to see a new moving kit....it seems like its been forever since we saw one! I'm getting ready to make an album of our house before we move and it would be perfect
