Currently Reading Week of 2/6

What's the last book you finished?
What are you reading right now?
What's on your TBR for the weekend and next week?

What's the last book you finished?

I finished 2 books and 1 audiobook this week...

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348922866l/6065182.jpg

This was SO good. I gave it 4 stars...if you like Gothic type reads this one is great.

A Cold Legacy by Megan Shepherd
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1403107423l/22105714.jpg

This is YA and the last in The Madman's Daughter Trilogy. I was pretty disappointed in this book. I really liked the first one (a retelling of The Island of Dr. Moreau) and the 2nd was okay (retelling of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde) and then this one just didn't do it for me (retelling of Frankenstein). I gave it 3 stars but I think it's more 2.5.

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1270352123l/186074.jpg

I LOVED this. I listened to the audiobook b/c I tend to enjoy High Fantasy more that way and I think it's the perfect medium for this one especially since it is the telling of the main characters life. I am a Patrick Rothfuss fangirl now...it was SO SO good. Perfect world building, great characters, cool magic system...just really really good. 5 stars

What are you reading right now?

Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1393788871l/5364.jpg

I'm enjoying this although not as much as the first. I'm about 1/2 way through and it's about a 3 star right now. Except Jamie..he gets a 5 star always :)

The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1297311431l/1215032.jpg

I'm only on chapter 3 of this 42 hour long audiobook! but I expect to enjoy it as much as if not more than the first book in The Kingkiller Chronicles.

The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling
https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333988118l/4020390.jpg

This is actually the first time I've read this little companion book to Harry Potter. I'm just reading like one tale a day..and they are cute. I like the commentary on each by Dumbledore the most.

What's on your TBR for the weekend and next week?

I will finish up Dragonfly in Amber this weekend and then I hope to pick up...

The Night Watch by Sarah Waters

The Song of Achilles

and Dark Places by Gillian Flynn

After finishing the First Fifteen Lives of Harry August for our group read last week, I decided I wanted something light, fluffy, and easy to read. So, I turned to Nicholas Sparks. This is what I'm reading right now:

Once I finish that, I'm gonna read this one. It's the sequel to a time travel book that I really enjoyed last year:

Libby - just finished the longest ride last week (or 2 weeks ago!) thought it was pretty good :) definitely an easy read!

Going to start Wild today.

Don't know what's next. Need a trip to the library to pick something up!

Oh that's good to hear, Erin! I don't typically read romance stuff, but every once in a while, I'm just in the mood for something that doesn't require much thinking. LOL

Once I"m done reading Memory's Wake I'll probably move onto the next 2 books in the trilogy, I've already bought them (on sale through end of Feb).

My husband and I are Patrick Rothfuss fans too!

Last night I finished a sort of astonishing book. It's the kind of realistic fiction that spans a few generations and gets into the effects of family, and the matriarch of the family is a hoarder (that's the most astonishing part). The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell

Next I'm finally going to read the third book in the All Souls Trilogy, The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness.

Last I finished was Cinder per my dd's suggestion. Liked the 1st half, trudged through the 2nd.

Currently this because Shawna Clingerman left a great review and BOY WAS SHE RIGHT. I'm loving it. Don't want to even finish this one too quickly.

Not sure what's next.

I'm ashamed to admit that I gave up on the Bookclub book. It just wasn't doing it for me. I read as an escape and when I go several days without any desire to pick up the book, it's a clear indication that the book isn't for me. ;-) I'm reading Reconstructing Amelia now.

Don't be ashamed. Life is too short to waste time reading books that you can't connect with.

I'm only on like page 30, but it has already captured my attention. ;-)
