where do u print ur 12x12 l/os?

hi girls!
i finally printed some of my l/os for the very 1st time just b4 xmas (gave some as gifts too) and now ive got the bug! lol! it was so exciting to see them 'in person' that i have decided to print up tons and frame them going up my stairs and then down my upstair hallway. i may even frame some for the playroom too.... anyways! i got them printed at scrapquick and was so in love with everything about that site (service, time, price, quility, etc!) but sadly she has closed up shop.

so im at a loss of where to go now lol!

where do you get your 12x12 l/os printed and how much?

thanks for your help!!

xoxo

I print it myself, and it is so much fun, I have my layouts up and down the stairs and in our bedroom and.....

http://www.dianakaiser.dk/wp-content/collage.jpg

And then I have just ordered a Shutterfly book with all of my layout for 2007 - but I donīt know if they do single prints 12x12 as well

BrattyMeg 01-06-2008 01:56 PM

Shutterfly does but they are 6.99 a page for 1-9 then 6.59 10-19 etc goes down by how many you order

I've only printed a few from mpix only b/c i wanted to try mpix out and they turned out great and are 5.59 for 1-10 and 11+ are 4.99

Libby Pritchett 01-06-2008 02:23 PM

I print my 12x12 layouts as 8x8 from scrapbookpictures.com I was concerned at first that the quality would be less in the smaller size, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I was a paper scrapper for years and had tons of 12x12 albums, but now all of my digi books are 8x8 (or 8.5x11).

I love scrapbookpictures because they have INCREDIBLE service and quality. It's 1.99 for 8x8 pages, which may be a little higher than other places. But it's SO worth it for their awesome quality.

And how funny that you'd post this now... I'm currently uploading a ton of layouts to scrapbookpictures - haven't printed since August! Oops!

Paula 01-06-2008 02:55 PM

Well, I don't print 12x12 because the books I have are all 9x9. But, I have a man here in town that prints my 9x9s for me at .50 each until I exceed 75, then he drops it to .30 each.

ColleenSwerb 01-06-2008 03:24 PM

So glad to see this thread. I'm tempted to do a 12x12 shutterfly book wtih my '07 stuff, but Libby has me intrigued with the scrapbookpictures.com

Decisions decisions! Lol!

BrattyMeg 01-06-2008 04:00 PM

I personally prefer 8x8 books...I have some 12x12 from my paper days and they are HUGE. 8x8 is perfect for a coffee table book or something. I did print 1 8 and 1/2 x11 all I did was plop my 8x8's on a bg paper and printed it. It turned out pretty nice too. One grandma got that one. I'd carefully look at a 12x12 album while out shopping before you decide to print an album of 12x12s. Esp if you put them on bookshelves or anything

Julie Billingsley 01-06-2008 04:23 PM

I ordered 100 layouts from scrapbookpictures.com last year and the quality was fabulous! They are actually in my town, so I should go check them out in person someday. I need to print more but am waiting for a sale... which seems to never happen. I've also printed at Costco and was fairly happy... but the scrapbookpictures.com was definately better.

Traci Reed 01-06-2008 04:30 PM

I print my own stuff at 8x8, I loooove 8x8 better than 12x12 for sure! my 12x12 are just too big and I've found digi layouts look especially enormous at 12x12. Paper was mostly 12x12 because you needed that much room for the pics and embellishments, but because we have unlimited resizing options, I've found that 12x12 just looks too large to me! Just my .02

Libby Pritchett 01-06-2008 04:52 PM

I totally agree, Traci! I printed my calendars with 11x11 layouts this year, and those things looked GINORMOUS!

Heather Roselli 01-06-2008 04:54 PM

I also print 8x8 at www.scrapbookpictures.com, but they do 12x12 too.

I believe that Christine from ScrapQuick still does printing. Have you contacted her via email or thru her blog?

Kat Stokes 01-06-2008 05:15 PM

I'm uploading LO's to scrapbookpictures.com right now to place an order. Do you print glossy, matte or metallic? I noticed the metallic are $2.99 for an 8x8. Is the difference worth it?

Libby Pritchett 01-06-2008 05:16 PM

I print matte, Kathi. I haven't tried the other finishes, but the matte looks awesome!

Kat Stokes 01-06-2008 05:17 PM

K. Thanks Libby!!! I'm ordering 12 LO's right now - matte finish!

Traci Reed 01-06-2008 05:26 PM

I love matte as long as it's not cardstock-matte LOL

I DO like 12x12 for wall hangings and stuff, just not albums...

Laura Deacetis 01-06-2008 05:51 PM

thanks girls!
and lol traci-- i was just looking at the 2 i had printed and framed on my wall now (after reading your 1st post about 12x12 looking too big) and on my wall i thought it was perfect and that 8x8 might be too small ... so im glad you said that 8x8 is better for books not hanging hehee! cuz i was all unsure again. ;)
i think for a book 8x8 would be perfect and $ wise, really great! but love the big 12x12 for hanging. for me anyways. ;)

and heather- she had emailed her customers saying cost wise, her printing services werent worth it for her, and she is no longer printing. :(

ill have to check out scrapbook pics!
thanks again!!
and any other info is great! so do share! :D
xx

I also love scrapbookpictures.com. For xmas I needed some 5x5's quick to do a scrapbook for my niece and have it bound and went through bestcolorphoto.com and was really happy as well. Looks like both scrapbookpictures.com and bestcolorphoto.com are the same for 12x12's.

Where do you guys find your frames for the 12x12's or 8x8's? Around here I can't seem to find any without having them custom made, which is pretty costly.

Also, would love to see arrangements of how you guys hang yours, I've thought about doing this, but just haven't done it yet

tmcquaid 01-06-2008 06:16 PM

I bought Canon i9900 about a year or so ago to print my layouts on. Love it! But I have to admit that I really don't print them out to put in my albums any more. Since ordering the 8x8 albums from Shutterfly, I don't think I'll ever print them again except to frame and put on my wall. It's so nice to have them in those flat books compared to the big bulky albums from paper scrapping days.

tmcquaid 01-06-2008 06:18 PM

Angel, I find my 8x8 frames at Garden Ridge or Hobby Lobby. Both are craft chain stores in our area. I've also found 10x10 frames at Garden Ridge that I've used before but the 8x8 are more common. I've seen the 12x12 frames at my LSS.

ColleenSwerb 01-06-2008 06:20 PM

Michael's, ACMoore, and Joann's also have 12x12 frames in their frame section. Sometime they're advertised for scrapbooking, other times as Record Album frames.

BrattyMeg 01-06-2008 06:21 PM

Walmart has them too and Michaels does occasionally

I get my 12x12 for my walls from Garden Ridge though price wise they were best for me

iJenny 01-06-2008 07:58 PM

A friend of mine has gotten her stuff printed at sbtoshare.com and LOVES them. She does their matte prints and says the quality is excellent. Also, I know there is a site called printmykeepsakes.com. I don't know anyone who has printed from them, but its worth checking out.

Its interesting that ya'll think 12x12 is too big. Now I'm thinking that maybe I should do mine in 8x8. Are the embellishments/fonts/etc hard to see or anthing in 8x8?

P.S. forgot to add that sbtoshare.com will print a trial pack for you of one of your pages using each of their paper options (cardstock glossy, cardstock matte, photo paper, etc) for only the shipping charge of $5. Just so you can see what their quality is like.

Hmmm this thread has me thinking too Jenny! I had books printed at Shutterfly for the grandparents and they seemed to small. But I had scrapped them to be 12x12 - maybe that was the problem.

Anyway, I do my printing for cards and the for the few LOs I have printed for the wall at www.whcc.com. Their quality is top notch. 12x12 pages are $3.50 and shipping is free for orders over $12. When you set up an account you get a few free 8x10s to ensure you monitor is calibrated to their printers.

MikkelPaige 01-06-2008 08:52 PM

Wow! So much to consider!

Laura, I completely know what you mean with printing them and seeing them for the first time "in person" and getting the bug! I just printed one myself for the holidays and caught the same bug! So this thread is fabulous!

I have a printer that can print up to 13x9 (bought it just for scrapbooking in 2005 when I was strictly paper scrapping) so I suppose if I buy the 12x12 paper I can print at home myself. Problem is NO stores carry it. I guess I'll order it online one of these days.

I also buy the 12x12 frames at Michaels. I think I've only seen them in black and bare, unfinished wood. I've bought the black ones before (metal) and I just spray paint them to be the color I want. Otherwise, if it's a 3-D layout I buy the 12x12 shadow boxes.

Sari 01-06-2008 09:03 PM

I also print mine 8x8. I have one album I did as 12x12 and the pages just seem gigantic to me! :p So, I prefer 8x8. I've ordered prints from scrapbookpictures.com and they were great. Normally I order from sbtoshare.com because I love their cardstock paper.

ETA: They charge $1.50 per page for 8 1/2 x 11 prints. The only downside is they print your 8x8 on 8 1/2 x 11 and then you have to trim it yourself. I don't mind doing it but it's one extra step if you want that size from them. Anything larger is $2.00 per page.

webseitler 01-06-2008 09:32 PM

I just discovered Print My Keepsake. I had a coupon for a free print (normally $3.50 each) and I ordered a recent layout that I love. I got it rather quickly, considering that this was during the prime holiday rush. And the image looks fabulous! I'm very pleased and I highly recommend them! :)

ajf9597 01-06-2008 09:42 PM

Thanks, we don't have a Garden Ridge, but there is a Hobby Lobby about an hour away. Our local Wal-Mart doesn't carry 12x12, unless I'm not checking at the right time.

Thanks ladies :)

Lexicam 01-07-2008 10:27 AM

Another fan of Scrapbook pictures here, get the matte finish you will not be disappointed, I always get 12x12 layouts, I find 8x8 too small LOL...They run $3.50 for a page then shipping is only $2.00 no matter how may you order. The quality and color is amazing. I also have some framed around the house, they look great:)

Stacey42 01-07-2008 11:18 AM

I've used sbtoshare.com to print matte 12x12 and 8x8 and been very pleased with the quality

jaylensmom 01-07-2008 06:18 PM

i printed mine at scrapbook pictures too and i loved them (8x8)...

Magik 01-07-2008 09:36 PM

Thanks for all the great info ladies! I've bookmarked a few places to check out.

I'm pretty new to digital scrapping, so I was wondering if you need to design the page the exact size that you want to print it. Example: If you designed an 8x8 page, does that mean you only have the option to print it out 8x8?

Also, do the Shutterfly books let you just do your pages and not the premade designs they already have?

the quality is better IMO if you do your pages the size you want to print unless you want to print down size (like 8x8 LO to print 4x4 or something)

and no you can go to scrapbook or storybook at shutterfly and choose blank for your page then drag/drop your "pictures" as scrapped LOs

d2vasquez 01-09-2008 03:27 PM

oh what an interesting thread to read - I have a printer to print my own but it is tough to find the 12x12 paper if I wanted to go full size. Like others, I kind of tend to like them 8x8 and can find really cute books to go with them. My paper layouts are still in the 12x12 and all my digi ones are in the 8x8 albums so it is easy to see which are which.

ColleenSwerb 01-09-2008 03:32 PM

I stopped in Traget last night and snagged 2 shutterfly 8x8 albums (with free shipping) for $21 a piece. And since they don't expire for 2 years, I can take my time ordering them. I've got plans to put make LO's for a bunch of vacations and put them in books together now, lol.

Ashley Pigford 01-09-2008 05:44 PM

They sell shutterfly albums at Target?!? How does that work?

pretty sure it gives you a code to put in at shutterfly and has the specs for the pages. Some have themes too but I did see some regular 8x8's on clearance at my target

ColleenSwerb 01-09-2008 10:38 PM

Shutterfly partnered with Target. You can order prints through shutterfly and pick them up at Target's 1 hour photo. So I think to try and get more customers, they were putting stuff in the target stores. It's just a box wtih a code in it that you put in at Shutterfly.
