A Week in the Life?

Anyone else planning on doing A Week in the Life next week with Ali Edwards?

I think I'm crazy because I am seriously considering it. I last did it in May of 2012 so it has been a while... We should (fingers crossed) be on harvest next week so there will be LOTS of insane hours to record and my birthday is on the 29th! So that would be cool to capture, too.

It's just a lot to try to capture while being out of the house from 8AM-11PM, you know? :w00t: But the album would be awesome if I managed to finish it!

YepBrook 10-22-2014 03:04 PM

I have something coming out this weekend that might be perfect for it! I am going to attempt AWITL for the first time.

eranslow 10-22-2014 03:13 PM

Marla we share a birthday!! :D

I wasn't planning on it. I still need to finish up my December Daily from last year! But who knows - I might feel inspired :)

fifilur 10-22-2014 03:14 PM

Next week we have fall break here so it won't be a typical week at all + my son'll spend the weekend at his dad's, so I don't think so. Do check out Brook's new release this weekend, it's perfect!

MamaBee 10-22-2014 03:20 PM

me, me, me!!! I have done it the last 4 years - well, totally dropped the ball last year - about day 3, totally forgot to keep taking photos, hahahaha.... I'm pumped!

jacinda 10-22-2014 03:27 PM

Um.....no. Way too much work for me. ;) I love the idea of it, but the actual DOING of it....yeah, not so much. We're into the last term of school for the year, and it's always the busiest, so while I would have plenty of activities to scrap, I just don't have the time.

Libby Pritchett 10-22-2014 03:28 PM

I'm going to TRY. The last time I did it was in 2012 when Chloe was just 3 months old. Our lives have changed a little since then. LOL

hollyxann 10-22-2014 03:29 PM

Every year I consider it and every year I back out because I fear it lol

jaylensmom 10-22-2014 03:31 PM

I'm like Jacinda...I love the idea of doing it but to actually do it is another thing. Maybe I'll be organized enough to do it this time...

eranslow 10-22-2014 03:44 PM

So those who are doing it - what tools are you using to keep notes? What's your game plan?

Libby Pritchett 10-22-2014 03:50 PM

Well, when I did it before, I kept it REALLY low-key. If it's too involved, I'll quit. LOL

So, I just kept an old-fashioned notebook and jotted notes throughout the day. I only used my phone for pics. My pages were SUPER simple and not very artsy, but they're still some of my favorite to look at cause it really DID capture a normal week in our lives at that time.

Libby Pritchett 10-22-2014 03:52 PM

Here's just 1 of my pages from last time:

eranslow 10-22-2014 04:13 PM

Look at how tiny Chloe was!! Oh my goodness!

And great approach! Instagram pics...easy!! I know 1/2 my problem is getting photos off my big camera. Using just phone pics would be a huge time saver!

I just take photos of stuff that I normally don't take photos of - that is my approach... :D

gas prices
meals we eat
laundry soap and other cleaning stuff
school books and library books
daily hygiene products
vitamins, prescriptions and OTC
neighborhood, around our house... see how trees grew, houses changes, etc
photos of the places we go - church, YMCA, library, gas station, grocery store, etc
photos of what we buy or the receipt that lists prices of food
J's favorite toys and books
layouts I create
books I'm reading
music that I'm listening to... usually just do a favs layout for each of us and stick it in the back of the album
take down the milage on the cars
current weather and events of the week

Then I just take shots through the day and what we are doing... kind of boring since we do the same stuff almost daily - but I throw in those extra shots to make it more interesting.

this is one of my most favorite projects I do and one that I'm mostly guarenteed to finish... *cough* said from someone who is still working on PL2012, 2013, 2014 (not started), DD 2012, 2013... haha

marlathrall 10-22-2014 06:08 PM

Last time, I used Lynette's & Traci's photo book with slip ins... This year, I'm considering doing the same thing, but ditching the slip ins. I really like the clean look a lot more. This time, I think I'm going try to be really clean and only use a couple of fonts... no alphas or elements.

To keep track, I will probably rely on the time off my camera and I might use the Momento app to record some of my journaling if I have time on the tractor. Last time, I did really good the first couple of days on journaling and then just relied on my pictures to trigger my memories.

jennv 10-22-2014 06:17 PM

me. I got Traci's latest PL kit and some awesome Cindy Templates and my fav Erica journal/stitches and am going to go for it.......it's not easy to do, but it is such a treasure. I'm doing mine all digital and only using my iPhone for photos.....can't wait to see what you all do!!

aly321 10-22-2014 07:21 PM

Love these ideas, but I am like you... so many unfinished projects!! :)

a week in the life of me would be church on sunday, grocery shopping monday, homeschool all days of the week and then going out ot eat on the weekend. we are not fun :)

kim21673 10-22-2014 07:51 PM

I am going to attempt to do it! I have failed with every other project I have tried but I spent the money this year on Ali's kit and I am determined!!!!

julifish 10-22-2014 08:56 PM

First of all Brook's templates are perfect for WITL.

I did WITL in 2012 as well. I used Traci's templates and honestly I just finished my book in June this year. I got most of it done and then had pics but moved on to another project. So when I got a free Shutterfly album I decided to finish it up quickly. So glad I did! I can't believe how much my daughters have grown in 2 years time. Here is a link to my finished album: share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AaN3Llq2atWLx4

I will start on Saturday and take pics through the next Sunday so I have some extra things to work in. This Saturday I'll take some filler pics to use if I forget to take photos one day.
On my list this year -
A picture of our house
A picture of each of us alone
A pic of the inside of our fridge
A picture of the pictures we currently have on display
Pics of our cars (I know I'm giving my car to Katie in February and getting a new one)
Pic of my youngest with the neighborhood kids she plays with
Pic of my oldest and her boyfriend
PIcs of our phones
Gas prices (can't believe they are finally under $3 here)
Pics of the girls lockers (they have to take them for me)
Pics of Jason and my desks at work
A pic or journaling about how we get to work/school

No idea what kit I'm going to use, but last time I kept the background white and that made it so much easier!

rach3975 10-22-2014 09:59 PM

I did it in 2012, then in 2013 I started PL. I feel like that captures our everyday well enough not to do both. When I try to take on too many projects, I don't finish any of them.

With projects like PL and AWITL, I know it can take me a long time to get around to scrapping them so I need good notes. For PL I'm just writing a little each day so I keep notes in an app. But for something like AWITL where I'm writing more each day I'd use a notebook or type things out each night on my computer.

zakirahzakaria 10-23-2014 07:24 AM

So many great prompts here! I think I'll give it a try this year...although I'm pretty sure I'll just get into the first day and then drop out soon.

breakingbrie 10-23-2014 07:53 AM

I'm Getting inspired to try it this year! I don't think I've ever finished a witl project!

scrap2day 10-23-2014 09:39 AM

I will probably do it. Thanks for the reminder.

I try to keep it low key. I will probably try to get more photos of the prices of items this time. We might be moving so I think I will try to include more pictures of the house too.

If anyone else has other lists of prompt ideas please share. I find them very helpful (because I don't want a project of this is what I ate).

I would encourage you to think about doing it anyway. This project is more about capturing the everyday. You can make it really low key and just take a small number of pics during the day. It really is fun to go back and see how much has changed and what has stayed the same in just a few years.

Maybe you could include photos of which homeschool items you are using this year. Maybe plan a field trip, experiment or project for next week that you could include. Or even just take pics of the kids working on their school work. Does everyone have favorite reading spot?

rach3975 10-23-2014 09:54 AM

In addition to our daily pages, here are the other things I included:

DH's week at work (screen shot of his calendar and a screen shot of his bio page/photo on the agency's website. DH is not the type to bring a camera to work for me, LOL!)

One page for each of the kids at school (Basic stats like teacher's name and room number, their class's schedule, a photo of them with their teacher [not taken during WITL], their favorite subject, anything they had to say about their week at school, and a photo of a few pieces of schoolwork or art from the week)

Our favorite meals

Favorite free time activities/toys/books/tv shows and video games

Our house

Intro to the project

I LOVE this post from Ali Edward's on her blog today. It's really gets to the reason why she does this every year. To tell the story! And yes your days may seem boring - but wouldn't it be amazing for your kids to have an album to look back upon and see what they used to eat for breakfast? or what their favorites toys are? Definitely read this post!

Jjriward 10-23-2014 06:00 PM

I don't know what it is.... Looks similar to PL ??

NeverendingJen 10-23-2014 06:17 PM

Jenn, the idea is to document one week in your life really extensively. Capturing as many details as you can, telling as many stories as you can, usually in a chronological time frame.

NeverendingJen 10-23-2014 06:18 PM

I am not doing WITL this year as we just did it a year ago, and my husband is on convalescent leave currently and so our life is nothing like normal. I think I will be documenting a week in the spring though. I love my WITL book from 2013..just waiting to print it at Shutterfly soon.

aurian 10-23-2014 06:33 PM

I'm looking forward to giving this a go next week using some of my paper cards I want to use up (thinking a black and white theme to tie it all together within my regular album).

crecia27 10-24-2014 09:06 PM

I always attempt it, some years I don't actually get the pictures scrapped - but that's ok because at least I've documented some things that otherwise I would not and one day life will slow down and I can at least scrap the pictures even if I don't remember every detail. This year I downloaded Alis sheets to help me try and remember to write down the details and I've started a list of pictures I don't want to forget to take in the chaos that is sometimes our life.

Txcorey 10-25-2014 08:36 AM

No. I just have no interest.

scrap2day 10-25-2014 02:42 PM

Today was an odd day that included a series of errands, new stops, once in a year stops, etc. So I decided to start today.

dailydwellin 10-25-2014 10:38 PM

I'm doing it and I'm so excited about this being my first real try at a paper scrapbooking project. I purchased Ali's kit. I'm going to start tomorrow as I start my weeks on Sunday. I sat down today and printed out sheets to document the week and also roughly put my page protectors in the album. I'm trying to keep it super simple, so I'll actually follow through with it. I'm also going to do what Ali does and really just focus on documenting this week (I'm planning to put each's days documentation words & pictures on my blog) and then focus on putting the album together the next week.
