Cooking Salmon
It seems like a lifetime ago that I used to cook salmon frequently. But... it was probably over 20 years ago. I know I loved it but I don't recall what I used to do with/to it. lol I think I used a Teriyaki glaze often. And broiled it in the oven.
Do you cook salmon? What do you do/use? Have you used an air fryer for it? I have one but I'm fine using the oven. :hugs: |
We eat salmon at least once a week. I use a honey (or Maple syrup) and soy sauce and garlic mix to cook mine.
I make sure the filets are dry and put salt and pepper on both sides. I mix 2/3 cup of maple syrup or honey and 1/2 cup of soy sauce with some garlic. Let it marinate for a hour or so. (sometimes mine doesn't marinate long). We pour sauce mixture and put the salmon in the air fryer at 400 until the filets measure 165 degrees. Usually about 10 to 15 mins. I sometimes have to double the sauce mixture when we cook 4 or 5 filets. We scoop out some of the sauce to put on the salmon and mix it with the rice and veggies. We eat it with jasmine rice and green beans. I use the maple syrup bc honey is acidic and gives me heart burn sometimes. |
That sounds good, Kimberly. Thanks.
I've got salmon on my grocery list. |
Now I want salmon...Char!!! :D
Salmon is pretty expensive over here so we won't eat it as often as we want unfortunally. But I baked it in some butter with a sniff of pepper and that's it actually. Sounds like a yummie recipe Kimberly, thanks! |
Well, I hope I don't have sticker shock when I go to buy some. lol It might be expensive here, too. I'll report back tomorrow or the next day. (Whenever I get myself to the store.)

We love salmon in our household, though we don't have it often due to the price.
I usually just use Italian mix herbs, salt, pepper and garlic powder over the fillet before popping it into the oven or grilling it on a pan. :) |
I wish I liked salmon, but I don't. I could eat it if I had to, though. Anytime I've ever had it, it tastes too fishy. I even had it once at a reputable fine seafood restaurant, and it didn't taste that great. Everyone's ideas on how to prepare it sound good, so maybe I'll try it at some point when my son is out of the house. He gags at seafood smells.

We have some picky eaters, so usually when I make salmon, it's a surf & turn night & the boys have steak. I love cooking it in the airfryer, but usually I have a big fillet. I love to use the bbq grill too- but often it's the oven or in a pan. I have a really good recipe for garlic honey salmon that you make in a frying pan and then have a yummy teriyaki like sauce for on top. Let me find it for ya!

We make it a couple of ways. I use the Kirkland Atlantic salmon from Costco.
I make it in the oven by spraying a pan with nonstick spray, arrange the salmon fillets in the pan and top with lemon juice, lemon pepper, pat of butter on each fillet & then dried onion. I cook at 425° for 20 minutes. I make salmon in the airfryer for teriayki salmon bowls. I cube the pieces of salmon early in the day and then marinate then in the Veri Veri Teriyaki sauce until I'm ready to cook the salmon. I drain the marinade off and then cook the cubes in the airfryer for about 6 minutes at 400°. I remove them from the airfryer and combine them with Trader Joe's jasmine rice & steamed broccoli - delish! |
I cook my salmon filets in the oven, cover them with salmon seasoning, and top them with goat cheese and pine nuts. Twelve minutes at 350°
|
Thanks for all your tips. :) I plan to get to the store in an hour or so. Gotta check those salmon prices. Hope to be making some this weekend.

I just have to brag on a very simple technique I used on Sunday. I rubbed garlic on the salmon and very lightly coated it with melted butter. I then barbequed it at 400F skin side up for 6 mins and then another 5-6 mins on the other side (until the internal temp was 145F. It was the best salmon I'd ever had!

Thanks, Sheri. That sounds good.
I forgot to come back and post what I did. I looked up Honey Garlic Salmon and found this recipe from The Chunky Chef. Never heard of her, but the recipe looked good. Honey Garlic Glazed Salmon We all loved it. Here's the details: SALMON 4 (6 oz each) salmon filets 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (or regular paprika) 1/4 tsp blackening seasoning (optional) SAUCE 3 Tbsp butter 2 tsp olive oil 6 cloves garlic minced 1/2 cup honey 3 Tbsp water 3 Tbsp soy sauce 1 Tbsp sriracha sauce 2 Tbsp lemon juice INSTRUCTIONS 1. Pat salmon dry, then season with salt, pepper, paprika and blackening seasoning (if using). Set aside. 2. IMPORTANT: Adjust oven rack to middle position, then preheat broiler. If you broil this with the rack up high the sauce will burn. 3. Add butter and oil to a large, oven-safe skillet over MED-HIGH heat. Once butter is melted, add garlic, water, soy sauce, sriracha, honey and lemon juice and cook 30 seconds or so, until sauce is heated through. 4. Add salmon, skin side down (if using salmon with skin), and cook 3 minutes. While salmon cooks, baste frequently with sauce from the pan by spooning it over the top of the salmon. 5. Broil salmon for 5-6 minutes, basting with sauce once during the broil, until salmon is caramelized and cooked to desired doneness. 6. Garnish with minced parsley if desired. |
I love salmon  I just add salt, dill and little bit oil (a neutral one), then to the oven, when is done, I separate few filets, I check that doesn't contain bones and I crumble them. Separately, I wash some large potatoes, clean them and cut them into strips, and place them in a greased baking dish with a little oil or butter. In a bowl mix 100 ml whipped cream or full cream, 1 cup of milk, 1 egg, salt and dill, mix well, drop with a spoon little bit of this mix over the potatoes, a little of the salmon, and cover with more potatoes, more cream mix and more salmon, the last cover is always potatoes and cream. Cover with aluminum foil and bake at 180 C (356 F) for about 30-40 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through. Some people add chopped onion & more dill, especially at the top, but I no longer do because the salmon already has the dill, and the onion gives a different flavor, I like more without onion.
I found the recipe on youtube, sharing here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV5u...4gY2Fzc2Vyb2xl |
And if you want to taste a very Finnish salmon soup, here the recipe. I cook this soup once or twice a week, although the recipe says to add pepper, usually we don't add pepper in Finland, but salt and dill are the best to pair with salmon.

And this recipe is one of my faves, sharing in case that anyone would like to try it
