I am DYING to know..

if this baby is a boy or a girl, but because my Doc is out of town next week and the ultrasound tech is on vacation the next I have to wait until Aug 5th to have my big ultrasound!! I'll be 22 weeks!! I found out with DS at 18 weeks so waiting this extra time is killing me. :cursing:

LenaGardner 07-17-2008 09:01 AM

No way. I'm too impatient LOL!

I found out at 18 weeks with Nathan and when OB tried to schedule me at 22 weeks with Naomi, I obliged. And then I promptly made an appt for a local u/s place. I got a gender determination u/s at 16 weeks for $99. Of course it was accurate. Then when I got pg with Parker they had changed the rules and they would determine gender as eaerly as 15 weeks (before it was obviously 16) so I went at 15 weeks and they were right again :)

I swear I am SOOOO impatient. I hope the time goes by quick for you, but I personally would be making some phone calls ;)

newfiemountiewife 07-17-2008 09:09 AM

Some of the hospitals here won't even tell you! I was SO annoyed! Hang in there!

I wish I could do that but we don't have anywhere around here that does this. So I just have to wait on my dumb old doc lol

A friend of mine at my church is due 3 weeks after me and she finds out THIS week what hers is (she uses a different doc). I'm so jealous!

cindys732003 07-17-2008 09:33 AM

Oh man!! That must be a hard wait, I'm so impatient when it comes to that kind of stuff. Are you leaning towards one or the other based on the type of pregnancy you have had or no clue?

ajf9597 07-17-2008 09:41 AM

We didn't find out what DS was until he was born :) We even had 4 ultrasounds and through it all we stayed tough and didn't find out. Good Luck. Are you carrying the same? I've heard that if your pregnancies are similar that you will have the same sex, but wonder if that's true or not.

AddictedScrapper 07-17-2008 09:44 AM

Oh man, the wait would be killing me. Hopefully the next couple weeks will fly for you.

nikkiARNGwife 07-17-2008 10:58 AM

So far the only real difference between this and my previous pregnancy is my blood pressure has been okay this time..but that could still change I suppose, but I was already on Aldonet 3x a day by this time with DS and had started having a lot of swelling...so far no swelling with this one which is good...

DH really wants a girl and I think deep down secretly I do too...this will be our last b/c I'll be nearly 35 when it's born and we have fertility issues (we started trying for our first when I was 26 and didn't get pregnant until I was 30 and then this one took 2 years) so this will be it. I mean I'll be happy if it's a boy of course and so will DH, but it's my only shot to have a girl kwim?

Anyway...wait wait wait..I feel like that's all I do with my life these days lol

OrphanAnnie1016 07-17-2008 11:16 AM

I know the waiting the hard. I only found out what I was having with my 3rd. And I was almost 37 when I have my last one. He'll be one this October 11 days before my 38th birthday.

Paula 07-17-2008 11:25 AM

I know how you feel. I found out with all three of mine.

my3hens 07-17-2008 11:28 AM

Oh sweety I pray you find out soon, I can imagine your excitement!! Heck I cant wait to find out what your having! Sending ya lots of girly vibes!!

mummytothree 07-17-2008 11:53 AM

I found out fairly early with my first 3 (aroung 19-20 weeks) and then we moved and I got pregnant with number 4 and my new doctor made me wait till almost 24 weeks for my ultrasound!!! I about died!!! We had 2 girls and one boy and we wanted a brother for DS so bad...it was the longest wait of my life!!

And as far as pregnancies go my first was a breeze.....and it was a girl. Pregnancy #2 was hell on earth!!! I throw up for 12 weeks and lost 36 pounds before I found an OB that would prescribe me anti nausea medicine.....it was another girl!!! :D Pregancy #3 was not as bad at #2, but no where near as good as #1....it was a boy!! Pregancy #4 was close to being as bad as #2...but I only lost 26 lbs....it was boy!!!

Good luck....what ever is growing in that belly I hope it's healthy and happy!!!

pbumbaca 07-17-2008 12:00 PM

Awww, that stinks that you have to wait! I too had to know and since my doc only did u/s if there looked like a problem I had to go out to a private place. It was cool tho as we got the whole thing on video tape. Then with #2 that place was gone but as luck would have it my AFP test came back abnormal and since I was over 30 I had an amnio so there was our answer. I hope the next couple of weeks go by fast for ya!

BrattyMeg 07-17-2008 12:04 PM

ohhhh gl Nikki!! Girls are sooo fun hehe...

We didn't find out what Ryleigh (2yr) was until I think 28 weeks b/c she was in yoga position the whole 16wk sonogram...

With Teaghan (12wks) we found out in November, but I wanted to wait and find out with our whole family so we wrapped it in a box and put it under the Christmas tree and found out Christmas day..that was a wait and a half! lol

I hear ya on the bb..I've been on Aldomet with Cam, Ryleigh, and Teaghan..the whole pregnancy

Kat Stokes 07-17-2008 12:10 PM

Oh, that is just pure torture!

I was 22 weeks when I found out with DS#1. I was 13 weeks when I found out with DS#2. The tech was really surprised that we could tell that early. Of course we had another US at 20 weeks and confirmed that he was in fact a boy.

mlewis 07-17-2008 12:32 PM

Oh, I'd be so impatient too!!

ZaCola3 07-17-2008 12:38 PM

Ohhh I was wondering if you would find out or not!
I'm excited to know what you are having too...Does Avery have a choice?

I found out WRONG with Zak and had to return a closet full of girl clothes and re-paint the nursery...ugggg...I guess 16 years ago the technology wasn't as advance at the "normal" sonogram level.

I found out at 11 weeks with Connor because I had a high risk pregnancy-and had to have a Level 2 Sonogram...the dr was suprised we could tell so soon-but assured us 100 percent that this baby had a penis...LOL

I was so anxious with Landen and had to wait until 25 weeks I think...and he was open legged and ready to show off for all of us...We took the big boys!
I was so happy because I wanted another boy so badly!

I hope they can tell you, I'm crossing my fingers for a girl for you!

pewtertm 07-17-2008 01:07 PM

I remember how excited I was, and how hard it was to wait for that ultrasound appointment. LOL, the stories to tell there...

After drinking ALL that water, the staff called me in nearly an hour late...I thought I was going to explode all over the waiting room.
Once we actually got started with the exam, though, all seemed to be good. After about half an hour, we were about to find out the baby's sex; but baby was apparently laying against an artery, & I was getting dizzy and kind of clammy feeling. The tech had me sit up (huh? I'm dizzy, hello!), and I promptly passed out, smacking myself against the equipment on the way down.
So once I came too, they took me straight to my doctor's office down the hall to get checked out. They wouldnt' continue and let us know the sex...I was P-O'd! They were all concerned about me hitting my head, but I didn't feel a thing.
I had to drink all that water again the next day and come back just so he could take a peek and say 'it's a girl'.

BTW, the next day, I felt the pain from the fall LOL...but I apparently had hit my neck, not my head.

Well..this was our conversation on the subject...

Me: Avery, do you want a little sister?
Avery: Nah..
Me: Do you want a little brother?
Avery: Nah...
Me: Well what do you want then?
Avery: (thinks for a minute) A goldfish!!

lol...I don't think he really understand yet what exactly having a baby means...right now he thinks everyone has a baby in their tummy lol

bellbird425 07-21-2008 07:13 AM

hang in there! i'm counting the days til Aug 1 when we get to find out if it's a boy or girl too.

kscwgirl 07-21-2008 12:51 PM

Oh I would so hate waiting!!!!!!! Good luck, Nikki!!!

LibbysMommy 07-21-2008 01:02 PM

Oh Nikki, I feel your pain girl!! I go on Thursday to find out what we're having and I feel like I've waited forever for this day!! I can't imagine having to wait until 22 weeks!! I was 21.5 weeks when we found out what we were having with Libby!! That was a TOUGH wait!! I can't wait to see what you're having!! Have you thought of how you're going to tell your DH?

nehmelman 07-21-2008 02:33 PM

I can't wait to find out what mine is but I am only about 5 or so weeks, I want to know now, with my first I was pretty sure it was a girl this time I can't seem to figure it out, in my head I think it is a girl but I don't want to get my hopes up.

rachel

Jennilyn 07-21-2008 02:56 PM

I didn't find out with either one of my girls. Not because I didn't want to, but the hospitals here won't tell you unless you are having problems and have to see a specialist.

Rachel - I have been the exact same way with this one. I knew for sure from the beginning with my first that she was a girl. This one has me baffled. The 2 pregnancies are very different, but the closer I get to the ultrasound, the more I'm feeling it's another little girl!! :) Either way, I'll be excited!!
