OT: IKEA storage (trofast system) anyone have it?
 

Years ago I loved this storage unit and now we have an IKEA close to us AND we converted our never used dining room to a play room... I NEED more storage and to be better organized...

I used to have this in my office but since we remodelled it's now in my classroom. I teach 5/6 year olds and it holds stuff like lego, dinosaurs, cars etc. I love it and would really recommend it :D

i don't have them, but i have been looking at Ikea lately for some storage ideas for our future playroom and for our future new bedroom for storing my paper scrap stuff. So the kids stay out of it, lol. These are awesome!

This is what I have been looking at my girls' room. You can turn it on its side and they have boxes that fit in it. We actually have a breakfast bar in our kitchen that we only use about 1 foot of. So I am thinking about getting another one of these to put under the bar. Did I mention that we have NO pantry and no storage in this old house? It's over 100 years old. So the stuff we would put in it is just in boxes under the bar. Looking for something prettier!

that would be cool under the counter top... cute baskets or "totes" whatever they sell for them...

you might could even "embellish" them a little!

We bought the cubicle shelves and baskets for our living room and love it! My kids toys are easily stored away when guests come over, very convenient and stylish at the same time...

personally i am hesitant about storage involving easily removed bins like that. perhaps your kids won't do this but mine just dump everything out and use the bins themselves as toys. very irritating b/c they are not so good about putting everything back.

well i'm okay w/ the dumping as long as it has a home to eventually go back to... like right now w/ play food it is just in a long flat tote and the lid is never on and basically Bella dumps it out all the time, but at least there is a "home" for it try to go "home" to~!! =)

I got something similar to the cubicles w/ bins from WalMart for the kids playroom, I do like them, but I have the same problem with my kids. I spend 3 days organizing it all, sorting out the toys to get rid of, etc...and then they came in and in 5 minutes, had dumped them all out all over the floor, including the big tub of them that was headed for the trash. ARGH. I haven't bothered since, lmao.

I just got those bins the other day when I was in the city, I never bought the actual wood storage thing because i found it too expensive but I got 8 bins and I have these wire cube things that I put the bins into, like you I just want to have the different toys seperated so that they each have a certain spot. We had just been using one big toy bin but that made such a mess because everythign was all together. Now barbies are in one bin.. etc etc

my kids won't keep the toys separated because they don't play like that. hannah is super-creative and she doesn't just play barbies WITH barbies. Barbies have little fairy friends and magical flying ponies and short Polly Pocket friends. So, trying to organize them into logical groupings just doesn't fly. I have learned how to let my neurotic logical organization go when it comes to the girls' toys. We now have art supplies in one area and toys in the other and that's about as separate as it gets. It sure makes clean-up easier when I can just DUMP all the toys in ONE basket! :)

I have those in both the kids rooms! I LOVE them and they seem to be holding up really well. The kids climb all over them, pull the bins out to play etc.

I have the big one in my office and I love it! I bought the 4x4 for the kids play room and found that the boxes are too fragile when loaded with toys. I ended up taking their unit for my office. I do like the unit from the first post, I might have to look into that!

That's exactly what I'd love to have for scrap stuff! But, do I have my own scrap room yet? umm...No, I wish! :unsure: One day I'll reclaim the kids' playroom as mine, all mine! :p

I use a side of the master bedroom. I COULD have taken the spare room upstairs, but we decided against it since hte mater bedroom is HUGE (29'x12' a big long rectangle, lol). But I know just where I would put it. It'd look lovely. Jordan doesn't have that sense of design though. LOL!

I have pictures, but they are on my other computer. I have two of the first one you showed, but not in the wood, but in white. Those two are in Sophia's room and I have them pushed together so they form a stair type deal. I have a mix of the bin sizes in pink and white. In my son's room i have the second type you show, but taller, two of those. His are in the wood and I also have a mix of bin sizes in blue and green. :)

Oh..yeah, that is what gets me sometimes! Drives me nuts! :blink:

My dd has the tiered one, and we love it so much that we just picked up another for ds. I made sure all the bins were white though, so that if they outgrow them, they'll go into an awesome craft room for me.

We have the first one that you postedt & we love it so much that we are planning to get a couple more.

It's one of the most sturdy storage systems out there and totally customizable. I would suggest more of the shallow drawers than the other depths, cuz in my experience, the deeper the drawer, the easier it is to lose stuff at the bottom. LOL

we have 3! trofast stair shelfs in in two children's rooms.
(white, with green and blue crates) and our boys (we) love them!
Two accommodate our large Lego assortment, the other various toy. I prefer the flat and the middle crates.
In the large crates much can be stowed away, but it can hardly be regained :D

We dont have a pantry either so we got this for our kitchen and I LOVE it. It fits right under our window. I am going to get the big one for our basement and then add the baskets for toy storage. :thumbup:
