I guess I should be flattered...

Right? lol

Here's my lo:
http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/...1&ppuser=15263

and one that was posted a few days later:
http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/...9&ppuser=16454

I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, but at least a little "inspired by" would have been nice. :glare: Oh well. Such is life, huh?

heatherdumas 10-29-2008 09:43 PM

That truly stinks.

lizzyfizzy 10-29-2008 09:44 PM

not classy...maybe she doesn't know to credit a lift. that is the only logical explanation. sorry tracie...you deserve to be credited!

ColleenSwerb 10-29-2008 09:44 PM

Mmmmm, I'd totally be pissed. And, cuz I'm a bitch, I'd post a comment saying "THANKS FOR LIFTING ME MAYBE YOU COULD PIT IT IN YOUR CREDITS"

Teresa 10-29-2008 09:45 PM

Yeah....a lot of people don't play by the "unspoken rules". I think I'd just take it as a compliment anyway. :)

Tracie Stroud 10-29-2008 09:46 PM

Aww, thanks ladies. I'm not too upset about it, I guess, it just kinda bums me out, especially since I literally spent hours sketching and designing that lo. It's never happened to me before that I know of.

Megan Turnidge 10-29-2008 09:46 PM

Awww sorry! Yeah, it's happened to me a number of times... it puts me in a BAD mood... but I just hold my tongue and move on. I have left a "thanks for the lift" comment before. I'm pretty sure some of the cases were that the scrapper did not know how to credit properly... I don't want to think people blatantly try to take designs and claim them as their own...

I should so do that! :D

jessica31876 10-29-2008 09:47 PM

I would look at it as a compliment that she liked your layout enough to copy it. I dont think I have ever had one of my layouts lifted so I think if that ever did happen I would be thrilled LOL

ETA:She may have forgotten where she saw the layout or who made it. I have done that once before as I had gotten an inspiration from mythreehens but I couldnt find the layout on here and didnt realize til like three days later I had saw it on DST so I made sure to leave the credit then when I had realized where it came from.

lizzyfizzy 10-29-2008 09:48 PM

i do not pay enough attention to dst to know if it ever has happened to me. i prefer my happy little ssd bubble to tell you the truth. HUGS, tracie!

ZaCola3 10-29-2008 09:50 PM

I would not let something like this bother me. She must have totally loved your LO and maybe she is new to scrapping-and doesn't know the rules. I hope you aren't too upset by this-I would totally take it as a huge compliment.

I have actually done the exact same thing. I even forgot to post it was a lift until a few days later! :o I never did find the lo that it was inspired by.

newfiemountiewife 10-29-2008 09:54 PM

I'm so sorry. It sucks when this happens. I have had it happen to me also.

joelsgirl 10-29-2008 09:54 PM

I'd cut her some slack. she's only got 60 posts at DST; she probably doesn't know the "rules". When I first started scrapping, it didn't occur to me to credit my inspiration; it was only after I saw threads about the subject that I started crediting.

That is one of my favorite layouts of yours, btw.

Tracie Stroud 10-29-2008 09:59 PM

Thanks! I'm really not the upset about it, it just bummed me out a little. :)

mommy2aria06 10-29-2008 10:05 PM

Definitely a compliment...sorry it wasn't credited though!

kscwgirl 10-29-2008 10:12 PM

It doesn't look like she speaks english, maybe. I'd just take it as a compliment. :)

jorgies5 10-29-2008 10:15 PM

This happened to me quite a while ago and it ended up that it was more than one person doing it...I kept seeing my same layout copied over and over in the gallery over a weeks time and none of them credited me. From what I could gather...it was a non-English speaking group of scrapbookers who had picked my layout to scraplift as a group and they apparently didn't know the etiquette of crediting the person they were lifting.

You should keep your eye out on the gallery and see if there are any more. It could be the same situation as mine. And for the record, I was a little peeved that they didn't credit me.

SamaraGugler 10-29-2008 10:16 PM

What a bummer. I think she doesn't know better.

Amy Carey 10-29-2008 10:18 PM

i sweetly left her a comment on her page that it was a great "lift". totally not snarky, i really was nice, just wanted her to maybe think. She may in all honesty have forgotten it in haste posting her page, so maybe her memory will be jogged.

Becca Bonneville 10-29-2008 10:22 PM

Oh that is a bit of a bummer. I can see why it bummed you out. Definitely a compliment though!

Nikki Epperson 10-29-2008 10:27 PM

I'm sorry! That stinks - but I'm totally loving Amy's comment on there :)

DogwoodMama 10-29-2008 10:36 PM

Well, as soon as I saw that page I wanted to lift it! :) But I would have credited you.

I have to say that sometimes if I do a page that I really like, and post it in the gallery, I will sometimes panic and think "Oh no, did I lift someone here and forget it?" Meaning was strongly influenced by someone, changed it a bit, but still need to acknowledge it... but if I pretty much really LIFTED someone I would know it. I was recently really honored to discover that one of my LO's was chosen for a scraplift challenge at another website. I had panic initially, because I felt like I might have lifted someone else and forgotten, lol. But then I remembered the thought process I went through with the page and that calmed me down. :)

DawnMarch 10-29-2008 11:10 PM

I do sometimes forget to post that it's a lift -- I'm so busy trying to remember where all the elements came from and get them right and get the pages posted to the right place, that it just slips my mind. [I do go back and correct them when I remember]!

Ditto......I probably did the same think in my first couple of weeks of scrapbooking once or twice........

Gorgeous LO though!

What I was going to say. Love the original. It's so gorgeous!

meems 10-29-2008 11:46 PM

Love your page and it is definitely a compliment. :)

Not long ago I did a page and then noticed a page that had been posted before mine. In my eyes, my page looked like it could have been a lift of the other page and I was all paranoid that the scrapper was going to see my page and feel like I had lifted her w/o credit. but really I hadn't b/c I had never seen her page before. It was just a strange coincidence. Not saying that is the case in your situation though; her page definitely looks like lift of yours.

I was just going to throw this out there. I've created a page before and then encountered one that looked SO much like what I had made, only it was posted before mine and I'd never seen it before. I have to wonder if that scrapper had seen mine, would she think I lifted her without credit? So it's *possible* this was her own idea and it looks a lot like yours. Also, not saying that's the case, she very well may have been inspired by your gorgeous layout. It looks like it to me, that's for sure. Or like the other girls mentioned she may just not be aware of ettiquete. In any case, I understand the bummed feeling. I would feel the same way!

I do have to say that's one of my fave layouts of yours...beautiful and definitely lift worthy. :)

JenTapler 10-30-2008 02:18 AM

I've also lifted someone (or been strongly influenced by one of their LOs) and then completely forgotten where I saw that original LO. However, I always put something in the credits like "This LO was inspired by another LO I saw in XYZ gallery a few days ago, but I can't seem to remember who created the original in order to give them credit. Sorry! If it looks like yours, please leave a comment with a link to your LO so I can add the credit". Or something along those lines. But I think I would feel frustrated a bit if I were in your shoes!! Human nature.

sammi 10-30-2008 07:58 AM

Awww, I think it's a great compliment Tracie...sorry it bummed you out. I would give her the benefit of the doubt this one time. It takes a while to get all the etiquette down.:)

pbumbaca 10-30-2008 08:30 AM

I totally think she doesn't speak English and may not know the 'rules' but I also LOVED Amy's comment! Maybe she'll know it in the future! ;)

alansrock 10-30-2008 09:08 AM

 <---2 thumbs down

ShortCake 10-30-2008 10:08 AM

Well, I just have to say that your layout is awesome!!!

Hopefully with Amy's comment, she'll understand about crediting.......maybe.

This has totally happened to me before....it was actually one that Kay made into a cookie for the cookie challenge. It had a similar design to one of Kasia's LO (former TOTM) and I had never seen it before she was TOTM. That's what bothers me about posting in galleries, there are so many millions of LO, surely designs are going to overlap coincidentally.

Definitely, your is REALLY original though, and that was an obvious lift :)

newfiemountiewife 10-30-2008 10:32 AM

I had it happen, it was an exact duplicate. It was so hard to bite my tongue, partly because I didn't think the LO was very good or lift worthy anyway LOL!

Tracie Stroud 10-30-2008 10:43 AM

Thanks ladies! You've made me feel better.

Paula 10-30-2008 11:18 AM

I left her a comment commending her on a wonderful lift! LOL

crecia27 10-30-2008 11:25 AM

wow - that is pretty blatant. Yours is much cuter!

jessica31876 10-30-2008 11:27 AM

If she does not speak english I have to wonder if she will even understand what is meant by "lift". Seems like someone should message her who speaks her native language and politely/delicately tell her it is a no-no in the scrapping community to do a lift and not credit the original artist.

I swear Lizzy! You sound just like me. I get no love at any of my other galleries. I love my Sweet Bubble too.
I don't think I have ever lifted and not given credit. But there are so many standard design features, like clusters or blocking that I may incorporate. But this was a clear cut lift. I was blown away by the original. I thought it was so different than most of the stuff I have seen lately.

junebug 10-30-2008 11:35 AM

well, i keep getting a database error when i click the links. but if i get inspired by or even completely copy(lol) someone's page i put on there somewhere that i was inspired by ______. its just polite.

Jennilyn 10-30-2008 11:38 AM

Wow, the circles are the exact same size in the exact same place...she definitely should've credited you! That stinks Tracie :(

Tracie Stroud 10-30-2008 12:09 PM

hahaha! You ladies are cracking me up with the comments! Thanks for sticking up for me! SSD is the best!

mummytothree 10-30-2008 02:05 PM

But I do agree that she is probably not an English speak and probably has no idea it's taboo to "lift" and not credit!!!

BTW...if she is indeed an non English speaker she is probably really wondering why in the world her LO has gotten over 200 views!!! :D

Gorgeous LO Tracie...LOVE IT!!!!

sannajeannine 10-30-2008 02:41 PM

Left her a comment saying great lift of your LO :) Saw several others too, so I'm sure she will get the hint!

Kara 10-30-2008 02:50 PM

I am ROFL laughing at your comments on the lifted layout. WTG! ;)

(Fab layout BTW, Tracie!)

kscwgirl 10-30-2008 03:10 PM

did she delete her layout??? I get a photo not found in the database error page if I click on her link, but I can pull up your lo fine, Traci. I wonder if she read all the comments and deleted her layout.

omgosh, I guess she did! Wow!

scrapperjade 10-30-2008 03:23 PM

That seems REALLY strange that she deleted her layout! Why would she do that? Unless she got mad that you all "called" her on her mistake...

hhleung 10-30-2008 03:28 PM

I didn't get a chance to see the layout but maybe she just got scared and decided to delete her layout to be safe. I have to admit that if I got a lot of comments about how I did something wrong (that maybe I didn't know was wrong), I'd probably delete my layout, too.

Don't get me wrong, I do think she was wrong to lift without saying something but if I were her, I would be a bit nervous and delete my layout, too.

Helen
