Making jewelry

i have dabbled in this for as long as i can remember, nothing fantastic. Here lately just cheap plastic ones for the girls. i have made some nice, pretty ones for my mom that she loved. but i was looking at Etsy and there are so many people that sell jewelry on there i wonder if i could do it, just to make a little extra money. Some of it isn't cheap, but i know that some beads like those amazing swarovski crystals aren't cheap. i have ordered from ArtBeads before and once it cost me about $15 just to make one bracelet for my mom. So i know once you take into consideration the costs of the supplies, the time spent and the quality of something i guess it makes sense to price stuff sort of high, lol. i just think it would be fun, but also could be scary if i got a lot of people wanting stuff haha.

this was just a rambling thought, not really a question lol. i've been thinking of doing this for awhile.

I guess you'd have to weigh the costs of the supplies and the amount of time put into each one to decide if having a small Etsy shop is worth it. I'd rather buy pieces of jewelry from a small time crafter - esp. for pieces for my dd who is on the brink of teenager-ship LOL

well, maybe i'd just keep it small, like just here, lol. i think an Etsy shop might be more work than i need. i wouldn't mind making something for girls on here. maybe i'll whip up a few sample pieces sometime.

Ive been thinking of doing the same thing. Just the little crafts that I make here. Im working on a runner for the top of a dresser now.

I'd love to see what you make Corey! buying from a fellow crafter makes the pieces that much more special I think because of the love that goes into the making of the jewelry.

i agree! cause it can be specially ordered instead of mass produced. so you can have a one of a kind piece. i'll look into ordering some beads later this month and see what i can do. its been a few months; i'm too busy scrapping, lol.

I had one jewelry sale. I amnot sure if those people on etsy get really good deals on their beads or what but I couldn't make any money on my jewelry by the time I factored in the time it took me to make them and the cost of the beads. If you figure out a way to make money at it that would be awesome!
