The Polar Express

can i just say, that i love this movie? it's so magical! i always tear up at the end, lol, when he and his sister can hear the bell, but his parents can't 'cause they don't believe anymore. but he says that even when his friends can't hear it anymore, he can still hear the bell. :)

its kinda sad that as you get older you lose that innocence and stop believing. I try to see the magic of Christmas like how my kids see it. To them its just a wonderful time. makes me wish i was a kid again.

oh, and Tom Hanks is awesome, even in an animated movie. Fantastic actor. i love his voice.

BrattyMeg 12-05-2008 02:49 PM

I love this movie..in fact Cam wanted to watch it yesterday and i coudln't find our DVD..then it was on last night on Disney so I let her stay up and watch it lol

lizzyfizzy 12-05-2008 02:53 PM

i just got goosebumps from your description! i absolutely love the polar express! i was telling maddie the other day (cause she doesn't believe anymore) that i still believe in santa!! like i honestly believe with all my heart the magic that christmas brings and to me santa and believing is bigger than a jolly man in a big red suit. i really do believe! she thanked me for still believing and said she wants to see christmas that way as well and then she won't have to feel like she's lying when she tells her brothers that there really is a santa...LOL!!!

gypsystar 12-05-2008 02:54 PM

I have a special spot in my heart for this movie too. Of course, I've been a bit desensitized since it is Tristan's favorite movie EVER! We watch it year round so I've seen it about 9 billion times LOL!

ajoyfulheart 12-05-2008 02:56 PM

We actually OWN it but I have never seen it  We must watch it this month :) Thanks for the reminder!! LOL

Traci Reed 12-05-2008 02:56 PM

I heart TPE I just queued it to come next from blockbuster since ours is worn out with use LOL

lizzyfizzy 12-05-2008 02:57 PM

we took the kids last year up to durango, co for their polar express train ride! it was really special!

Amber1279 12-05-2008 02:59 PM

we love this movie too ... we went to a Polar Express train ride in 2006 and we are planning to go again next Christmas. We can't wait!!!

jaylensmom 12-05-2008 03:01 PM

I've never seen the movie but we have a Polar Express snow exhibit in our mall...It's the coolest it made me want to go get the movie for my son for Christmas...

Darcy Baldwin 12-05-2008 03:06 PM

We love it, too - and made bells for the boys 2 yrs ago to give to them as soon as the movie was over and you could just see the relief in Connor's face when he could hear it.

We bought the 3D version we're going to sit and watch together tonight - can't wait!

scrappinsweetie 12-05-2008 03:15 PM

let me know if the 3D version is really cool. my kid are wanting it but i want to know for sure that you can see a difference b4 i buy it.

Christy Lyle 12-05-2008 03:20 PM

The Polar Express is hands down my favourite holiday movie :)

Joan 12-05-2008 03:28 PM

Am I the only one who thinks the animation is creeeeeepy?! I think it's a wonderful story, but I hate the way they animated it and it's really hard for me to get past that.

Sarah8914 12-05-2008 03:40 PM

Oh I love it!!! The hot chocolate scene is my favorite. :)

We just bought it on black friday for a great price and already watched it once too!

aggiefamily 12-05-2008 04:18 PM

I love it also BUT after hearing it for the 7th time this week it is getting on my nerves. My youngest is obsessed with it and is sitting in a trace right now watching it.

Amber1279 12-05-2008 04:36 PM

Pixar animation is amazing, clear and with astounding attention to detail... realistic without a creepy need to look almost human yet not-human. Computer generated, yet doesn't scream "I'm computer generated!"...it has a beautiful sense of classic animation to it. TPE animation is fugly computer-generated schlock that screams "looky, I'm computer generated!" That they felt they had to make it look almost exactly like the actors makes it all the worse imo. It looks kinda like them, yet soulless and lifeless. *shudder* It's such a beautiful story, and I think it's a shame it wasn't done by someone else.

But you don't have a strong opinion or anything right Joan?

LMAO

Moi? :) Never! ;) :p

I love me some animation... so I hate it when they mess with it and get it all wrong.

scarletsierra 12-05-2008 04:52 PM

Ooh I love it too! I've had the book for ages and ages and would read it every year. When the movie came out I thought it was fabulous! You're right...it's so magical!

DawnMarch 12-05-2008 04:57 PM

Put me in the creepy camp. I love the book, though!

Joan 12-05-2008 05:00 PM

*high fives Dawn!*

I knew I couldn't possibly be alone lol.

scarletsierra 12-05-2008 05:01 PM

Ooh I wanted to say, I used to find the animation completely creepy too. So I can relate to what Joan is saying. But it's grown on me and the story trumps the creepy factor for me now.

Leila 12-05-2008 05:55 PM

My kids love this movie so much that I had to create a "tradition" around it. In order to not go insane from hearing it ad nauseum, we only watch in on Christmas Eve now. LOL!

And Joan, the animation is extremely creepy!!

Shawna 12-05-2008 06:21 PM

I think it's a great story, we have it on DVD but haven't watched it recently so we'll have to get it out. We saw part of it when it was on TV the day after Thanksgiving though. Kaylie's 1st grade class is having a Polar Express Day on the 17th, they are going to be doing activities based on the story, having hot chocolate & watching the movie!

I agree. Very creepy and dark-looking. The book is dark-looking too but not creepy.

Darcy Baldwin 12-05-2008 06:50 PM

I love t he animation - I think it's spectacular, really. The only part I find creepy are the kids' eyes...just a bit off.. But I like that it's not a happy go lucky movie - they kept some of the not so nice from Chris' book.

Joan 12-05-2008 06:56 PM

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm all for keeping the dark aspects of the story! That's not what bothers me about it at all.

Priscilla 12-05-2008 07:38 PM

Totally love it.

We;ve watched it about 50-100 times since LAST christmas (HD on Tivo)

We are giving him the book for his B-day tomorrow :D

Priscilla 12-05-2008 07:48 PM

ight go to local imax so i'll tell you about the 3d

Paula 12-05-2008 08:13 PM

I totally love this movie!! My youngest DD and I are gonna watch it tonight.

meems 12-05-2008 08:21 PM

wth? I don't get a high five from Joan?
:Pouting::

Joan 12-05-2008 09:03 PM

Apologies, Mimi... I'm slipping!

*high fives Mimi!*

*sticks tongue out again at Fizzster* :p

carriesmom 12-05-2008 09:28 PM

I've never seen the movie, but love the book. The grand canyon railway does a polar express every year and I am determined to get my kids to it sometime in the next couple Christmases.

grugdgingly accepts high five, although not the same since I had to practically beg for it :p

Di-ahh 12-05-2008 09:57 PM

We are currently wearing out copy number 2! I bet little dude watches it at least once a week. After Christmas last year it was several times a day, but he's a train boy so I think that's the main appeal.

Embrace the creepiness Joan!

Kat Stokes 12-05-2008 09:59 PM

I love it too! They have it at the IMAX theatre this year and I want to go see it in 3D!!!
