OT: Getting butter stains out??
I opened a package of butter for my son at a restaurant last night and the silly thing was melted and exploded all over me and my new jeans. I washed them with Oxy last night at my mom's suggestion, but the stains are still really obvious. Now I'm worried it's permanent. Any suggestions??
Thanks! |
Yeah, oxy is for organic stuff. Blood, sweat, spitup, that sort of stuff. The butter was most probably margarine, which is oil-based. I'm no expert, but I'd try an oil cutter like Dawn with a toothbrush on it :)
Good luck! |
I'd use Dawn as well. I've been able to get oil stains out with that and a little elbow grease.
|
...And warm water.

and don't dry in the dryer, only air dry them until you are sure the stain is gone...that will for sure really set it in!!!
|
Good luck Karen!! That's always the worst when we stain new clothes.
On the plus side, I've gotten a butter stain out of my kid's shirt with Dawn before just took a little scrubbing action! |
I splatted my favorite pink shirt with grease during turkey cooking on Christmas Day. It took 4 washes to get it out, but it's gone now.
I did the first wash with an OxyClean paste rubbed in and left overnight The second I put Shout on it and left overnight, then washed in Oxy Clean water The last two, just Shout Now, you can't even tell it was there. I was so happy, I thought I was going to cry! |
Dawn with oxy in it takes everything out! I don't even really scrub it in. it has taken out stains that have gone thru the wash multiple times that I thought the clothes were ruined.

In the household cleaner section there is a bottle of spray stuff called Greased Lightening. It's for like cleaning kitchen stuffs but I use it all the time to get grease stains out of clothes. I just spray it on, let it set then wash it in warm water. Don't dry it in the dryer though. But usually it gets all the stain out.

Do you think Joy would work or should I wait till I can get some Dawn at the store? I never thought of trying dish detergent. You guys are soooo SMAAAAHT.
|
I think I need to pick up OxyClean paste, too, then! You guys are giving me hope. WooHoo!
|
Good luck! I hope you get the stain out!
|
any dish detergent should work...I'd try what you have onhand before buying more!
|
i use shout on everything and it works wonders. the one with the little scrubber on top. :)
i have totally gotten out butter and mayo with shout. |
I use this stuff called "Goop". You can find it in the automotive section. It's waterless hand cleaner that is made for cutting through grease and oil. It's like $2 for a fairly large container of it and it works great. I just put a glob on the spot, rub it in a little and let it sit (usually all day while I'm at work). It takes all oily stains out (grease, butter, oil... and the original reason I bought it... capstick, lol).

I did this on NYE - but it was melted butter all over a brand new tank top. {too much chamagne & lobster!} There is a stain treated called Shout. This version is in a can & is specifically designed to cut out grease. PERFECT. Grease stains all gone. All I did was treat the night before and wash. :) GL!
