AshleyMadison site

The first time I heard of this was during the super bowl commercial last night.

http://www.ashleymadison.com/

WTH?

My jaw drooped when I saw it. First, I can't believe there is a website dedicated to helping you have an affair. Second, I can't believe that NBC thought it was a good idea to broadcast this commercial during the Super Bowl. So many families watch this together. We were able to screen most inappropriate commercials but this one took us by surprise.

I was irritated. And still can't get over the fact that there is a website that guarantees you an affair.

sammi 02-02-2009 04:31 PM

I must have missed that one...so ridiculous.

wvasweetness 02-02-2009 04:32 PM

I know... I looked it up and first that that it had to be a sick joke of some kind.

Ugh.

dover6473 02-02-2009 04:33 PM

omg i so so so agree with you!! did you read the top of their site? it says life is short have an affair...uuuggghhh that's just sick!!!

nikkiARNGwife 02-02-2009 04:41 PM

Oh my gosh! How terrible! What's really sad is their member count!

ColleenSwerb 02-02-2009 04:41 PM

Um, I definitely missed that one, but o.m.g. What is wrong with people?!?!

Nettio 02-02-2009 04:43 PM

According to this article, NBC and the NFL turned down their advertising but some stations in Texas still showed it. I know we didn't see it here in Colorado.

Rae's World 02-02-2009 04:44 PM

that is horrible!!! I must have missed that commercial. but that is honestly sickening!! We have a hard enough time keep the family strong now they toss something out like this. And show it during family TV! just awful.

alansrock 02-02-2009 04:48 PM

Yikes, that is appalling! I chaperoned a party at church with the youth and none of us saw this commercial...shows how much we were paying attention. If it was on during half time around that time we were busy making ice cream sundeas. I am glad we missed it nonetheless!

Robin Carlton 02-02-2009 04:55 PM

Gross - that's really crazy. I know this stuff is out there but it's shocking to see it so bluntly in the mainstream media. I'm curious now tho what the "as seen on" shows actually had to say about the "service". YUCK!

I was just looking all that up..I found a video on YouTube of the CEO on Tyra Banks, and he was essentially called in with a cheating couple...I don't know if they used the site or whatever, but they weren't advocating it in any way. I found another CNN video with him being interviewed, saying that he's just bringing families apart. The 'as seen on' shows they mention definitely isn't a good thing for them....just public relations spins?

scrapperjade 02-02-2009 05:05 PM

Disgusting. Truly and utterly disgusting!!!

:cursing: :cursing: :cursing:

lauren grier 02-02-2009 05:11 PM

O_o

AnnieBananie 02-02-2009 05:14 PM

Cuz I'm sure all those members had it really rough trying to find affairs without the help of a specially designed website, eh? lol

ETA: I mean to direct that sarcasm and whatnot toward the site themselves, not anyone here.

lizzyfizzy 02-02-2009 05:15 PM

thats the root of evil in our culture. satan at his very best: tearing families apart! i won't stand for it!

pbumbaca 02-02-2009 05:19 PM

O.M.G. and a big huge W.O.W.too

ZaCola3 02-02-2009 05:23 PM

I don't agree with the advertisement but I don't think people who are going to have affairs really need a website. They will have no trouble finding it all on their own, most of the time with not thought to the ones they hurt along the way.
I hate cheaters.

cheltzey 02-02-2009 05:28 PM

That. Is. Revolting.

See, thats what sickens me the most. Its like not there NEEDS to be a website to help these people cheat. But having it out there (and airing its commercials on national television) is basically saying that its an accepted lifestyle choice.

Infidelity is NOT acceptable. Period.

Like Liz said, Satan at his worst.

MandaBean 02-02-2009 05:43 PM

Ya..the website is dumb, BUT like some have said already, people are gonna have affairs without a website too and that is the sucky part. I think the true culprits are those people who would even think about cheating ro begin with.

This is my stand.

rachaelsscraps 02-02-2009 05:50 PM

It was a very bad judgement call on the station's part to broadcast that! Oh course, all they want is the $$$! (it's what, 7 million dollars for 30 seconds of commercial time during the Superbowl?!)
I can't believe there would be a company like that- but they're advertising execs. were smart- how many men watch the superbowl?! (I'm not serious or sexist, I'm being sarcastic!!!!)

lizzyfizzy 02-02-2009 06:16 PM

of course the people who want to have the affair or whom are seeking them out are first and foremost to blame, but i won't for one second let this website get away with what they are trying to accomplish. there are so many marriages struggling and on the brink of disaster and this little tool will be just what the docor ordered. it's insane.

twentytinytoes 02-02-2009 07:24 PM

so wrong on so many levels.

my3hens 02-02-2009 07:30 PM

WTF that is horrible. It actually makes my stomach hurt.

Yeah this. People have done it since the beginning of marriage so I don't think a website is going to make much difference. Married people get on those internet dating services all the time.

CA Dreamer 02-02-2009 08:50 PM

Wow. I must have missed it. I am sure it would have gotten my attention! How bizarre that there is even a 'service' for this sort of thing? WTH???? I am just speechless....

crecia27 02-02-2009 10:17 PM

I was sure this was going to be something silly - I'm seriously speechless!!

MelindaH 02-02-2009 10:31 PM

That is so sad that it has become "ok" to advertise something like that ... to think to create a site like that ... to consider DOING that.

In a creepy sort of way, it's better than the online dating sites ... at least the people who are going there are being honest that they are looking for an affair and they aren't preying on innocent singles who are trying to find the love of their lives on dating sites and have no idea the person on the other side of the computer screen is married. These people know what they are getting if they visit that site. (And that should be all the more reason to run the other way in my opinion ... but yeah.) Not condoning the site in any way, of course. If there is anyone they should be honest with, it is the person who they are married to/ in a relationship with!!!!

A very, very sad commentary on our times.

Melinda

kscwgirl 02-02-2009 11:20 PM

that just makes me ill. I know that commercial wasn't on here. :(

Priscilla 02-02-2009 11:23 PM

according to Youtube it was only aired in TExas....

I'm so proud of my state today.:thumbdown:

Priscilla 02-02-2009 11:29 PM

ok - not just texas but only certain local stations......

it totally looks like a joke.....can't believe it's real

sugarlips 02-03-2009 12:31 AM

OMG! I live in East TX and they didn't show it on our local station.
That is crazy!!! I can't believe that they would show something like that!!!

And the CEO's comment about Texas women really ticks me off too!:cursing:

mrshobbes 02-03-2009 06:13 AM

I think too many angry women visited and crashed the site, lol! I can't access anything except the logo and their tagline "life is short. have an affair." what the @#$%$#%!

scrappychic 02-03-2009 03:24 PM

They play it all the time on Sirius (Howard Stern Channels). It's ridiculous, I wonder if they really get a lot of business. Scary!

amysum1 02-03-2009 04:03 PM

Oh this just really pis**s me off! :cursing::cursing::cursing:
