Sarah Palin

This morning they said she wouldn't seek a 2nd term.. and now, she's stepping down? I don't have any idea what happened, does anyone??

I don't know what's up, either, and if it's to set up her Presidential run, I'm on the fence.

Part of me says...finish what you started, girl. Don't run for re-election, but finish what you started. However, I'd love it if more people quite their government positions if they are running for higher office since they aren't there to do their job, anyway.

This also might mean that the Palin clan is moving to the continental US where she can be more accessible for the party making her bid for 2012. Who knows. Who knows.

Brooke W 07-03-2009 04:19 PM

She's probably getting ready to make a go at the 2012 presidential race.

BrattyMeg 07-03-2009 04:23 PM

I thought maybe moving as well....will be interesting to see

AmyM 07-03-2009 04:28 PM

Who knows. I just hope it's not another scandal.
They're dropping like flies.

Susan Bartolini 07-03-2009 05:11 PM

She's a nutjob.

MandaBean 07-03-2009 05:12 PM

I know what happened. She's a dummy. :)

Susan Bartolini 07-03-2009 05:20 PM

And to think, this unstable person could have been VP of this country. Scary.

ETA - I watched the press conference of the announcement (which you can find on CNN.com) and she looked completely unhinged and rambled incessantly. The whole thing made little sense. Andrea Mitchell commented that she has told supporters that she is out of politics for good.

4noisyboys 07-03-2009 05:26 PM

I just saw this on the news...and from what they are saying, by not finishing her term, it pretty much means she'll be out of politics for good. I certainly hope so.

My dh is on the phone right now to his siblings up in Alaska to see what they've heard up there.

kscwgirl 07-03-2009 05:38 PM

Soooooooooooo weird.

AmyM 07-03-2009 05:42 PM

With the way she's been treated by the media from day one and all the slanderous vicious attacks against her family I wouldn't blame her one bit if she did walk away from it all. When you can't find something concrete to bring a person down with, you resort to personal attacks and name calling. It's getting quite old if you ask me. Perhaps those who despise her could come up with another strategy, this one's worn out and obviously hasn't worked.

Very! I wonder what in the world is going on.

Marcee 07-03-2009 06:16 PM

I hadn't heard anything about it. But I'm a firm believer that the media only shows you what they think you want to hear or that which furthers the agenda of certain political platforms. And of course the media likes to perpetuate drama! Not knowing Sarah Palin personally-I have no idea what is going on in her life and certainly don't put any weight on the half truths or speculation of the media. I certianly would never want to be in the media spotlight! Could you imagine all the awful things ppl would think and say about you-

I completely agree!! I dont think she is a "nutcase" but then the portrayal of her from the media in the past election was just so fair and so biased right?

YAY?! :)

ETA, I think it's best for her and her family to get out of the spotlight, which is really what I base it on, though I have my own personal opinions of her based on her interviews, etc. She HAS been put through the ringer whether it's been deserved or not and her family needs some recovery.

SamaraGugler 07-03-2009 08:35 PM

What I don't understand is how people could have considered her as a presidential candidate. Did you hear her speech?? Holy crap, talk about rambling!!!!!!!!!!!

nesser1981 07-03-2009 08:53 PM

I think its weird, I've only been gone from Alaska for 3 weeks, and I didn't hear anything like this when I was there, seems kind of out of no where. I think she's a little nuts stepping down.

4noisyboys 07-03-2009 09:37 PM

The people of Alaska elected her to serve, and it is wrong to step down and not fulfill your responsibility, unless she is physically or mentally unable to do so. No matter what I personally think about her, you have a job to do, and you should do it!

And....could anyone even understand what she was saying? She makes my head hurt.

I agree. I think it is one thing(right or wrong) to bring the politician into the media spotlight, but to drag her kids in is not fair. When they started talking about her younger daughter, that just was not right, imho. And her son is still pretty young. Maybe she realized that it is not the right timing to be a big political figure.

Nettio 07-03-2009 10:42 PM

Well I can't say I'd be sad to see her disappear, but I doubt we'll be that lucky. It wouldn't surprise me if she did attempt to run for President but it would surprise me if the Republican party actually supported her. Based on what a liability she was to the McCain campaign and all the things that have come out since then, I really doubt they'd choose her as their candidate against Obama. But stranger things have certainly happened.

ditto. Though if you do something like the gov of SC, then yes, step down.

Darcy Baldwin 07-04-2009 12:25 AM

If the construction issues are true, better for her to step down now, get out of the way of the running of the state. Else she would've spent her last eighteen months that she was supposed to be governing, defending herself and her family, more than she's had to do in the last eighteen months.

Traci Reed 07-04-2009 01:22 AM

construction issues?

Nettio 07-04-2009 01:34 AM

I think she's referring to this: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-a...=hp:mainpromo2

4noisyboys 07-04-2009 02:03 AM

oh yeah...now I remember all of this.

yep yep yep.

Beth Swann 07-04-2009 02:25 AM

From what I know, I like Sarah Palin and I'd vote for her over all other present choices in 2012 if she ran.
