Oh I am sorry!!! That is not cool. Fire ants are dumb. :D

ditzyscrap 07-06-2009 01:41 PM

I'm covered in bites from the weekend too...I'm not sure how many are mosquito bites, maybe some fire ants, lol...or maybe poison ivy (we were camping in the bush, lol). Anyhow, I'm incredibly itchy, too...

Darcy Baldwin 07-06-2009 01:42 PM

Fire ants just suck.

Connor has been stung so many times, and a few in mass numbers, that he's now considered at risk when he gets them - like a person allergic to bee stings. I hate them. It's almost all we seem to have left up here. They've killed just about every other native population around here in neighborhoods. They just suck. big time.

I hope it feels better quickly....I know it takes awhile.

Leila 07-06-2009 01:46 PM

Fire ants=good reason to NOT live in Texas. Like Darcy's Connor, my husband had so many bites that he's also at risk (he unknowingly stepped on a mound while mowing the yard. That was the last time he mowed--we had the missionaries come do it after that, lol!). Yay for no fire ants in WI!

ajf9597 07-06-2009 01:55 PM

That stinks!

lisabranka 07-06-2009 01:57 PM

eeks!! fire ants sound nasty!!! darn itchies ;)

krystalhartley 07-06-2009 02:01 PM

OMGosh! I feel your pain. I was just at WebMD making sure I didn't need to call the doctor because I am on DAY 4...FOUR...of hives. I think it was something I ate actually...

I've been taking Benadryl non-stop. The first couple of days I just wanted to light my skin on fire or something to get rid of the itching.

I'm curious...are you taking CLEAR Benadryl?? When I had a bunch of reactions to medications...Benadryl didn't help...turns out I was allergic to the RED dye in both the pills and the liquid...so it was making it worse rather than better. My allergist was so glad when they started making Benadryl in clear form!! ...and so was I!

SamaraGugler 07-06-2009 02:09 PM

SamaraGugler 07-06-2009 02:15 PM

4noisyboys 07-06-2009 02:15 PM

Darcy Baldwin 07-06-2009 02:19 PM

Welcome to Texas.

I am allergic to them also (and Lance) and we put out Amdro every month, ant bait on any mounds and get our yard treated by the bug man every quarter.

Try putting some hydrocortisone on the bite and take the Benadryl. It might be a little too late for this but don't pop the blister! I find if I can suffer and resist the urge to scratch the blister it heals much faster.

Lauren Reid 07-06-2009 05:29 PM

bwhahaha to the pee.... at this point i'd let you pee on it, lick it, put a tutu on it, whatever would make it feel better!

and YUCK to the hives, i've actually been getting those as well for the past month! they are random though and wicked itchy... can't figure out what's causing them though.... i have a sucky doctor so i haven't even bothered going in... BAH! hope yours clear up soon!

oh and i did the cortisone cream and have resisted the urge to pop it (eeeew), i had a whole attack on them on my foot this Spring ( i think it was) and learned that time not to mess w/ them.

I thought the more you got bit the LESS sensitive you'd become to them... weird that it's the reverse....

dh puts down the red ant shtuff on our lawn which works pretty well... i got this bite at some one ELSES house though. I need to sprinkle that killy stuff everywhere i walk/sit/stand/pee i guess! ;)

xo

My mom told me that she was told to put the ant bite under hot water (as hot as you can go without scalding yourself) and it makes the bite heal quicker. I tried it once on my toe (stupid thing kept getting rubbed by my shoes/sandals/flip flops) and it did seem to help. But yeah...fire ant bites are the worst (more worse than mosquoito bites IMHO) they just take forever to go away!!

Oh and they have them in other states (we lived in Georgia and they had them there too) not just Texas! But being that we live in Texas now...yeah they are everywhere here!

LOL... I was thinking the same thing!

makabe 07-06-2009 06:55 PM

Well, L , you know I've been insanely itchy lately. Not sure if it helps for fire ants, but I found ice stops itching. Can you try throwing an ice pack down on your foot for a while? I guess numb is better than itchy... At least it is for me!

jessica31876 07-06-2009 07:04 PM

Im sorry...I know your pain all to well. I am allergic to so much stuff. A year or two ago I found out I was allergic to either latex or the glue they use on bandaids. I had a bandaid on a small sore from a mosquito bite and when I took it off I had little bumps which turned into sores where the bandaid had touched :-(

carriesmom 07-06-2009 07:10 PM

That totally bites! Get it...bites? Seriously, though, I am so sorry, I lived in Texas as a kid and fire ants were the worse, I hope you feel better soon!

lovely1m 07-06-2009 07:20 PM

Ugh, fire ants, I remember them clearly from my time in Texas. I guess, I will stop complaining about the skeeter bites on my ankles since its nothing compared to you all. lol
