what size do you upload lo's to the gallery?
and why?
the ones smaller than 600x600 make me squint. i dunno why. it's not like there is that much difference. |
I always upload at 600 x 600 because that's what everyone recommended when I first started uploading here. LOL :D
600x600. I squint at smaller ones too! I'm practically blonde folks...bigger is better! SIZE MATTERS. :p
600x600 mostly because it works at every gallery I post. I like simplicity!
600x600 because that's what I noticed everyone else doing when I started scrapping. You know I am a follower. :D :D :D :D :D
600x600. Dunno why. Probably because someone told me to. lol
600x600 because that's what I've done for a long time, lol. I know when I first started putting in galleries (years ago) the max size was 500x500 so that's what I did, but that has since changed.
Typically 600x600 unless it's still too large of a file to upload to most galleries and then I do 550x550.
600x 600 cuz size DOES matter.

get some glasses Lizzy you'll be fine. :D |
600x600 - but one of my teams mandates 700x700 for their store gallery which allows up to 200kb... as I am Lazy and use an action to resize for web, it took me Forevah to figure out how to do it... and still, i'm not all that sure i've got it yet...
Almost always 600x600, but if the quality is ultra crappy at 150kb (usually on highly saturated pages), I will go to 550x550 or even 500x500 to get a better quality image.
I just use a sharpening mask and then "optimize to file size" to keep it looking tight at 600x600.
I use 600 x 600, unless it is a lettersize or A4 LO, and then I leave the longest side at 600.
When I try to upload 600x600 here, it always tells me it's too big, so here, 570x570. 600x600 everywhere else.
I do 500x500 if I can't get the quality to stay up at 600x600. I'd rather have it a bit smaller than have it blurry. My files are generally huge because I have bazillions of layers, so I have to reduce the size quite often LOL
I do either 600x600 or 500x500.

600x600 and I use the JPEG optimizer in PSP to get it under 150 and they stay pretty sharp. :)
550x550 - the pattern papers that I adore cause the file size to skyrocket @ 600x600. The quality was crap at that size. So I dropped down the pixel size and the quality went up. :)

Ditto 600 x 600.
I used to upload 500x500 until someone here taught us how to do it 600x600 without it going over the file limit. Now I do 600x600.
I'm at 600x600 now but I did 500x500 for a long time because that was the maxsize allowed.
600x600. Very once in awhile size becomes an issue and I drop down to 550x550
600x600 cuz that's what size my resize action puts it at. :D
600x600 PLUS unsharpen ... it makes a HUGE difference!!
500X500 because I like the way it looks for me.
I go with 540x540, which is totally random, but it's 15% of 3600. My resize action resizes to 15%. I prefer it because I can keep the quality really high when I save for web, much higher than with my 600x600.

LOL, I do 500x500 because that's what I thought we had to do, still from years ago. Maybe I should change mine to 600x600!!
Another 600x600 here. :)
I do 500x500 since that's what the size limit used to be most places. I do 600x600 for dares b/c that's the size req for the blog there.
600x600 . I do save for web and optimize file size 150k :)

I try to always save at 600x600 but like Stephanie said, when you use a lot of papers (like I tend to do :D), it can be hard to get the quality at the level I would like. I'm curious, what percentage quality do most of you end up with when you do save for web? Mine is pretty much always under 75% and usually closer to 50%. |

I'm usually around 85% when I resize at 540x540. A lot of times it's even higher, in the 90's. But I'm a little crazy and anything less than 75% gets shrunk and tried again. I don't do all that work to have a crappy photo on the web, kwim? I'd rather sacrifice size for quality.
Umm...415x415 :o If it's any bigger and I post it to my blog, it gets distorted, so rather than saving it at 2 different sizes, I just make the one 415x415. Sorry if my layouts give you headaches! LOL
me too...I usually keep numbers around 5-15 in the optimizer and it is usually sti;ll pretty sharp

600x600 The smaller sizes make me squint too, lol. But when I use lots of papers &/or photos I do sometimes go a bit smaller for the sake of quality.
Well who knew! I've been uploading at 500x500.... sorry to make everyone squint, lol!!
Well shoot - I'm very confused now!!! I've never noticed what percentage it saves at. I just save with enough pixels that it doesn't go above 150. Sometimes it's around 600x600, sometimes more, sometimes less. So, what percentage should I go with so that my lo's aren't blurry? I have noticed that my lo's seem blurry online and I'll bet that's what's causing it - ARGHHHH!! Can someone just talk me through the websaving process? Especially the optimize part.
I usually first change the image size to 72 dpi in photoshop elements 7. After that, the lo usually looks really, really small on my workspace. I then go to "save for web" and change the format from gif to jpg and fiddle around with the size until the total file size is under 150 so it doesn't exceed what the site allows (usually ending up between 550 x 550 and 650 x 650). |
I upload at 600 x 600 because I thought that is what you were supposed to... Guess I never really thought about it!
I use PSE 5 and just do the save for web - then change the size to 600 x 600 and adjust the quality until the size of the file is just under 150. I don't think my images are too blurry. Hope that helps! :) |

I follow this tut from Jessica Sprague
http://spraguelab.squarespace.com/bl...r-the-web.html |
On that Jessica Sprague site, she changes the file to 72dpi first also. But Bree, you are saying that when you "save for web", it will automatically change it to 72?
Yep, it's what the "save for web" feature does first and foremost...changes to 72 dpi. :)
That's actually an updated version of the one that I follow. Lemme go run the action I have and see what order it does things......
Huh. Well my action does change it to 72 dpi first. Oh well. LOL!
You have a specific action that saves for web? huh...cool! So, I do or I don't need to change to 72 dpi first?
