wouldn't you do this??

I got an email today from the virtual school my daughter had taken some classes last year at (it is a state school you just take the class online on your own time). They are running a study to see how well students comprehend algebra 1 (provided they have not taken algebra 2) and if they participate they get food and drinks while at the testing site plus a goodie bag of stuff (probably like a planner and pencil and a sling pack or something) and the best part the choice of either 5 hours community service credit OR a 25 dollar gift card. Well my daughter has already taken algebra 2 but my son has not and he does not want to participate. It is voluntary and first come first serve so he is not required to do it and I wont make him if he really doesnt want to but I mean who wouldnt do it? LOL Oh and it doesnt go against you if you do not score well. It is solely to see how well students are retaining the knowledge from algebra 1

I probably wouldn't, lol. Not now, or when I was a kid in school. Even for $25.

Hmmm maybe its just me then. I was always good in math and he is too so I figured he would want to. He said no he doesnt want to sit for three or four hours to take a test he doesnt have to take

Can't blame him, I don't know that I would want to take a test that I didn't have to. Maybe if the gift card was $100 :) :) LOL

ColleenSwerb 07-07-2009 02:52 PM

I have the same mindset he does. I'm good in math (duh, I'm an engineer, lol), but I have better things to do than take a test that isn't required. I don't remember what year alegebra 1 would be, but I made more $$ working for 5 hours, or babysitting, or whatever.

jessica31876 07-07-2009 03:00 PM

I figured he would for sure because he does yard work for extra money and it pays about the same as the test would and it is a whole lot easier to do. I told him it is up to him if he wanted to we'd take him and drop him off but he doesnt have to. I was just surprised he wouldnt want to.

I'm not sure there is any amount of money that would make me test my math skills. I already know they stink. No need to reinforce my shortcommings.

newfiemountiewife 07-07-2009 03:06 PM

LOL I'm with Jen.

I wouldn't have done it for $25.

scrapperjade 07-07-2009 03:18 PM

I don't think I would do it either.... but in grade 12, I failed Algebra 3 with a 36%, lol!!! I don't think I retained a thing since then, lol!

LOL - ok so maybe i'm weird like jessica - but i would totally have done it! but i always loved math and standardized tests :)

yes this :D

I took Algebra 1 as a freshman and even though I hate math at 15 I totally would have done it fro $25 bucks!!! But I'm a cheap sake and I love FREE money!!!! :D :D :D

Julie Billingsley 07-07-2009 03:54 PM

I definately would not do that. LOL I'd actually pay $25 to NOT take the test. :p However my oldest son is a math wiz (he aced the math section of the SAT... yep, don't know where he got that math talent) and he'd love to do stuff like that just for "fun". Weird... LOL And like Col, he is planning on being a structural engineer. But I'm "making" him get a minor in math at college just to give him some more options.

ColleenSwerb 07-07-2009 04:13 PM

That shouldn't be too hard Julie. I had to take 894023890432 friggen math courses anyway, I probably should've looked into it myself :p

Still makes me giddy to know an aspiring engineer :) There aren't enough of us!

lizzyfizzy 07-07-2009 04:15 PM

i rock at math and i wouldn't do this for $25 either. :D:D:D

melmos75 07-07-2009 04:23 PM

At that age I probably would have done it for the money. At my age now - no way!!
