Just Wondering????
I have noticed over the last 4-6 months that multiple sounds bug me......like my husband talking to me with the tv at a medium level...... He was listening to a rugby game on his laptop and the morning news on the TV and I couldn't stay in the room....it kinda made me nauseous. I have also got to where I dont like people (my children) talking to me (or other people) without looking at me......I don't think it is a hearing problem but more an issue with respecting the other person enough to give them your full attention......
Am I just being weird or do you understand how I am feeling? |
I get tired of all the noise and people trying to scream over the x-box and TV. So I know how you are feeling. And I don't like more than one going at once. That turns me into a psycho mommy!

soooo there with you. I HAVE to turn commercials down, I hate taking over the radio in the car ... dh gets mad and just turns it off when I turn it down so I can HEAR what he is saying ... shesh. And yep, looking me in the eye while talking to me is very respectful. I am right there with ya. :)

I wonder if it's just a part of getting "older." I find that I can't have the TV too loud if I want to talk, the radio gets turned down when we're trying to talk in the car, in fact, I shut the tv off when the kids are napping. Never bothered me when I bartended...heck, we'd have the TV blaring, jukebox blasting and still would talk over it. Have I mentioned I can't go in a bar anymore? If you're not looking at me when you're talking...I don't know you're talking to me most of the time. I thought that was just common practice.

Just as an FYI...if certain people cannot seem to look you in the eye and talk to you...it could be that simply they can't. I know from researching Aspergers Syndrome...it is a VERY common trait. It's not disrespect...they just can't look at the face and listen at the same time.
I'm becoming amazed at what people with Aspergers Syndrome have to deal with to 'fit in' with the rest of the people...and the same with ADHD. Let's see...you were saying? Oh yes...I cannot stand for anyone to be trying to talk to me from the next room with their tv on...you wanna talk to me...come here without all the noise and talk to me. lol |
Laura~you said what I was afraid to put into words....Is it that I am getting older? ; }
Sharon--What I am talking about is more in my household. I dont like talking to my son's back as he is playing the Wii or my older son as he is on the computer. Or my husband who is eating his lunch standing at the counter with one eye on the news......... |
I have issues with sounds, too. I hate multiple sounds at once and all the yelling around the house, lol. I think I'm just getting old and grouchy. :p
|
I can deal with the sounds but what bugs me is my oldest child is always gone so the only time I ever talk to her lately is on the phone. Well she will be talking to four or five other people where she is at while I am talking and I just flat out told her the other day when she can focus on ME I will continue talking to her. She says "Mom I am listening to you" Well it doesnt feel like it when I have to keep repeating what I said because the people you are talking to are so loud I cannot hear what I am saying
|
I get overstimulated by too many sounds- mostly electronic versions. For example, a large group of people doesn't bug me, but a TV on while people are trying to talk makes me CRAZY!
|
yeh I get overwhelmed with lots of noise too.. though I am weird :p
|
That is one thing I CAN NOT stand is background noise... I never listen to music or have the TV on during the day because it seriously drives me batty. I also can't have the music on in the car if DH is trying to talk to me... I get mad and I've been known to say "All this is is loud noise!!!", and I realize I have turned into my father...
|
My kids like to try and talk to me through the house. And with all the noise in my house the 5 kids the Multiple TV/xboxs etc on it drives me freaking Baserk sometimes and I will yell "IF YOU WANT TO TALK TO ME COME TO ME AND TALK TO ME!" Ahhhhhhhhhh lol

One of the side effects as my anxiety and depression getting more and more acute is that I don't deal well with excessively noisey sutiuations sometimes... (not really all that convienient for my family of four BOYS)...
but maybe you'll notice that when things in your life as a whole are more stressful, or if you are feeling chaotic in side of yourself, that it can make it harder for you to focus on a chatic world outside of yourself... also... people who aren't tuning into you by making eyecontact, it is hard to tune yourself into them, that is understandable. But year I don't think you have to worry something is wrong with yourself, you should just make sure to listen to your body's cues and take care of your needs by getting the quiet you do need! |
