I'm getting old...

today I learned what salvia is....... c/o miley cyrus.. the best part is (if that wasn't bad enough).. I read the same line 50 times.. wondering why and how one would smoke saliva. yes. Hello, I'm la.. and I'm an old clueless fart.

KateD 12-11-2010 12:01 AM

I have no clue what you're talking about. Lol, I guess that makes me older and more clueless!

BrattyMeg 12-11-2010 12:11 AM

I learned what it is too..and at first I thought it said saliva

crazy kids

lovely1m 12-11-2010 12:12 AM

I heard it on the radio first, had I not, I would have thought the same thing.

mummytothree 12-11-2010 12:12 AM

Color me clueless too!! Off to google....maybe!!! :D

TeriBeary 12-11-2010 12:25 AM

I did the same thing :)

rach3975 12-11-2010 12:56 AM

Now I'm very curious...I guess I'm old and clueless, too.

nonnie 12-11-2010 01:07 AM

Count me in on the old and confused - I have boys - so..... no miley

Ginger_79 12-11-2010 07:42 AM

LOL I first read exactely the same thing than anyone else. So I had to search an online dictinary for salvia. Funny enough, I do know that word in German very well. And La, if it makes you feel better, here every granny will know what salvia drops are (good against a sore throat), but most kids never heard of it. So you are actually very young, belonging to the no-clue-about-herbs wild generation... ;)

But why people would smoke that was beyond me. For me you might smoke peppermint just as well then. But I googled and apparently the "magic salvia" as it's called here is only one very special salvia species. So in that regard, yes we are old.

emmasmommy 12-11-2010 07:57 AM

yup. you're speaking a foreign language to me

adrianka 12-11-2010 07:58 AM

I thought salvia was a completely harmless herb that I use in cooking. OK, now I see that what I use is Salvia officinalis, while the smoking species is called Salvia divinorum. One never stops learning, LOL.

MissKim 12-11-2010 08:28 AM

I heard it on Kid Kraddick on the radio. I don't know why I'm suddenly listening to popular radio after years of not, but there it is. Anyway, they were saying it was a natural herb. Yeah, so is marijuana. The difference is that one is technically legal, and marijuana isn't.

SmallMoments 12-11-2010 08:32 AM

I read your entire post like a hundred times as "saliva." I've never heard of it either.

joelsgirl 12-11-2010 09:44 AM

Better to not know what salvia is than to be up to date on all things miley cirus.

THIS!!:)

Valgal 12-11-2010 11:10 AM

Good grief I'm old too, then. And I thought I knew everything about good ol' Miley.

I will not lie #1: I think Miley Cyrus has a beautiful voice.

I will not lie #2: Her celebrity leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

According to my radio station, its illegal in some states, but not all. Its still legal in CA though they said.

g8rbeckie 12-11-2010 12:12 PM

I never HEARD of that until I saw the news article, LOL. I have Salvia growing in front of my house...I guess it's the same thing?!!

I don't plan on smoking it to find out :p

Ginger_79 12-11-2010 12:29 PM

Beckie, I doubt that. The salvia you're growing most like is the normal one. For cooking and such. That one doesn't contain hallucinogen substances. That's only one special salvia, which in German is called "magic salvia" or as Adrianka said it's official name is Salvia divinorum.

Davita 12-11-2010 12:48 PM

Lol! I went through the same thing when I heard this. Sign me up for the clueless old fart club la!

Traci Reed 12-11-2010 12:55 PM

Salvia has been popular here for a while as an alternative to pot...you can buy it at most of the local liquor stores and head shops around here. I'm not big on drugs but from what I have heard, it's a really short hallucengenic trip. Thus why she is acting INSANE in that video. It doesn't make sense as a pot alternative to me because they don't do the same thing...but what can you say? Crazy kids!

nonnie 12-11-2010 03:16 PM

oooooo - So is this the same thing as spice and K2? - They are quickly banning these things in Texas and its a major no go for the military - banned - Wow what a role model!!

KristinCB 12-11-2010 03:22 PM

The thing i hate.. is the stupid celebrity gossip sites start posting about it and now kids who have never heard of it will start thinking its the cool thing to do..
