Dream Vacation

Just out of curiosity, what would be your dream vacation?

I would love to tour Europe. There are lots of countries I want to hit, but Germany most of all. Ireland, France, England, Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and Greece are up there, too.

rach3975 01-25-2011 09:23 PM

Right now, a weekend anywhere without the kids is my dream vacation! DH and I went to London and Edinburgh on our one big trip pre-kids. We only spent a weekend in Scotland, but we both loved it and want to go back to see more of the country. So I'd love to go back to Scotland and add in side trips to France and England.

KristinCB 01-25-2011 09:26 PM

Scotland is my dream spot too.. closer to home I would love to visit the east coast of canada - especially P.E.I. :)

Jengerbread88 01-25-2011 09:33 PM

I would love to go back to Europe and see more of it, or go to Portland.

But right now, I'd just be happy for a few nights away. I'd even settle for here:

It's only a couple of hours away from me... (and super close to a few ladies on here!)

pewtertm 01-25-2011 09:33 PM

Um, got a lot of them LOL.

On the realistically possible list...
family trip to WDW
cabin on Vancouver Island

Less realistic, but not impossible
Alaskan cruise/Canadian Rockies by train
Prince Edward Island (Anne fan here)

Never gonna happen, but would love...
New Zealand

nesser1981 01-25-2011 09:37 PM

Greece, Italy & Ireland are the 3 spots I'd love to go. I'd love to do a big Disney Vacation too, you know, like with unlimited funds at one of their high end resorts. That woudl be great.

I'd love to go back to Kauai too, and spend a week on the island or Maui.

ColleenSwerb 01-25-2011 09:51 PM

I want to go back to Italy and France eventually. We tooled around Europe for our honeymoon and both really loved Paris, Rome, and Florence.
In the fall we're going to Ireland with my family.

Eventually I want to go to Greece, Egypt, New Zealand, and Australia. :)

jessica31876 01-25-2011 09:59 PM

Europe is pretty high up there for me...Germany, Ireland, Scotland & England (all countries of origin for my ancestry). Close behind those are Australia & Hawaii.

nun69 01-25-2011 11:03 PM

I would like to go to Germany :) I have been to Rome, Paris, England and Italy {since we lived there 3 years} but I would like to also go to Spain....

my REAL dream vacation would actually be a Disney Cruise with all of my kids :) I am hoping to put away for it starting this year and hopefully maybe next year or the following year we can cruise from the West Coast :)

for me and DH, I would just love to do a cruise of any sorts...kinda foolish for us to not do an Alaskan cruise since we live so close to Seattle!

That is amazing and only a couple hours away from me! I bookmarked that website. Hopefully hubby and I can get away there someday soon! :)

Dream vaca: basically anywhere. I love to travel. WDW is a must see and I would love to take my kiddos there. There are several places in the states that I would love to visit - Washington D.C, San Francisco, San Diego, Alaska, Hawaii, New York.....the list can go on. I want to see it ALL! :)

International travel: Australia, Germany, France, England, Spain, Italy, Africa....basically everywhere. :)

Right now TOP PRIORITY vacation would be to take my family to Disney World. Hopefully within the next year or so we will be there! :)

AmberK 01-26-2011 12:21 AM

well....DH and I will be celebrating our 10th anniversary next year so we are planning a trip to Paris with a side trip to London! Although I would really love to go to Italy too. We are thinking of going in October but he did mention that the summer olympic games are in London in July and we could go to Paris then and then go to the olympics for a day or two. That would be really awesome.

My other dream trip would be to Australia and New Zealand.

littlekiwi 01-26-2011 12:23 AM

Canada, Australia, England, USA

kristijoy 01-26-2011 01:32 AM

DH and I travel a bunch, but one of the things I would like to do someday (without DS) is to take the train trip over the Canadian Rockies! With DS we have lots of plans to travel in the US (road trips through the southwest, historical trips on the East Coast, camping in the National parks) We are also looking at Europe when he's about 8 or 9. Egypt maybe about age 12 and India as a teenager.

DH & I would LOVE to be able to do that!

My top 3 dream trips would be Scandinavia, Netherlands, Italy.

I'd love to do every Disney cruise available but I don't like heights, and dh is convinced he'll be seasick the whole time.

mrshobbes 01-26-2011 01:57 AM

DH and I would love to go to Ireland and Japan :) And I would personally love to go back to San Francisco and NYC :)

My inlaws did this a couple of years ago for their 40th wedding anniversary and they LOVED it!

For me I'd love to go visit my best friend in New Zealand and I also want to go to Egypt. Scotland and Ireland used to be my dream vacations, but now they are just too accessible and we'll make it over there soemtime in the next 5 years.

adrianka 01-26-2011 03:58 AM

Nice to see Europe so high on the list of so many people. :-)

For me it's actually any place (ahem, in Europe) where I can really relax. As far as dreams go, it's always been Scandinavian countries. I went to Finland and Norway, but would love to come back, and Sweden, Denmark, and, most of all, Iceland, are still to be visited.

Last year I almost when to Iceland, but then I got scared by the volcano business, so went to Germany instead, and I haven't had a better vacation in years. So that's why I think the most important thing is who you are with and how you enjoy the trip, the actual location is not that important.

Outside Europe, I find New York and Japan appealing.

pomi 01-26-2011 05:07 AM

For me, it's a trekking/walking vacation. I'd love to go to Nepal or Western Canada/US or to climb Kilimanjaro someday. :) But walking in Scotland or Norway or Alps is superb, too, so I want to go back there. :) And, thinking about it, walking in my country (Czech Republic) or our neighbours' country (Slovakia) is amazing, too.

Milmomma 01-26-2011 05:36 AM

Italy, Germany, Ireland, to name a few... I love traveling. I'd be happy to go anywhere kid free, minus china.

*Celeste* 01-26-2011 08:06 AM

i have never been outside the US (except for a brief stay on Grand Caymen.) So I would love to tour Europe. I hope when my youngest is 9 or so that we can take a family trip over there. Maybe London or Paris. The kdis take French in school so they'd really like to go to Paris. I'd also be interested in Ireland, Italy and Spain.

emmasmommy 01-26-2011 08:08 AM

i'd LOVE to go back to germany but italy is also high on my list.

Leontine78 01-26-2011 08:15 AM

No one likes to go to Holland

Hihi....I just want to see Florida and New York or San Francisco.....
But it will be Italy this year ....yeah!

sprauncey1 01-26-2011 08:48 AM

First I want to take the kiddos to WDW this year. Kyle is finally old enough that he may remember it, so I'm saving my pennies and hope to go over Thanksgiving.

Beyond that with the kiddos right now: Hawaii. We went five years ago when Evan was 2 and would love to go back and enjoy that again with my folks. Sunshine and warm breezes, can't go wrong!

Then when the kiddos get a little older, we will return to England. We spent a 11 days touring Italy, Austria and England before kids and always said we'd return to England for more. And our ultimate trip that we never got to do because we moved early is Australia/New Zealand. We wanted to go over 10 years ago before kids but it never worked out.

We LOVE to travel and are military so we have gotten to explore a lot of places. I love visiting family, but sometimes I feel like we lose out on the other traveling because of the cost and time it takes to visit them.

I really need to start saving my money though, cut back on the Starbucks and scrapbooking purchasing (gasp!), so we could afford to do these things. Gosh where did I put that money tree anyway?

NeverendingJen 01-26-2011 09:52 AM

Europe....Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, England, Ireland, France, Wales, Scotland.....
or Australia and New Zealand......I can't decide which, lol.

4noisyboys 01-26-2011 10:36 AM

anywhere and everywhere! I love to travel and have been to Europe a few times, quite a few of the states. I'd like to go to Singapore, Japan, all over Europe...I'd love to go back to Greece, go to Egypt...I would be up for almost any trip! Have passport will travel!

deepounds 01-26-2011 10:50 AM

I'd love to visit Ireland & Scotland and Australia & New Zealand. I'd also love to go back to Europe (we lived in Germany for 4 years in the 80's) to see a few more places that we didn't get to go.

MandaT 01-26-2011 12:24 PM

Anywhere for more than 2 days...

Most realistically for our family:
Alaskan Cruise
Yellowstone/Grand Tetons
Disneyland
San Francisco

Dream of Dreams (a.k.a. NEVER gonna happen):
Italy or Ireland

ariesfl326 01-26-2011 12:44 PM

1.If I was going without my daughter then I would say Europe; pretty much anywhere but mostly Italy. My cousin just got a teaching gig in Milan so hopefully she will take it and I can visit!

2.If I was taking my daughter then it would a Disney Cruise...don't really care where it goes just as long as we are on a Disney boat. LOL We are doing a week in Disney World this May but no cruise yet.

3.For some strange reason I have always wanted to rent an RV and travel around the U.S. seeing all the weird but interesting touristy spots. I figure that is a good trip when I'm retired one day. ;)

kscwgirl 01-26-2011 12:55 PM

Scotland/Ireland and an Alaskan Cruise

SweetMelissa 01-26-2011 02:44 PM

Honestly? I would love to spend a month in Orlando... I'm such a nerd. I love Disney. I will and can find any excuse/reason to go. This is one of the reasons why my husband will never agree to move closer to Orlando. He knows he'll never see me. Esp now that Harry Potter is at Universal!

mariewilcox 01-26-2011 03:31 PM

Honestly, I really really miss living in San Diego and would love to take a couple months and just hang out there with my sister and cousins. There is so much to do in that area and there are so many places I want to take DD to.

I've been to a lot of places since DH was in the Marines for 20+ years and I've traveled all over the US, Europe, Japan, Guam, Phillipines, the Caribbean, Bahamas, Virgin Isles, etc. To be honest I'm not big on wanting to travel out of the US anymore. I would love to travel all around the US and take DD to the National Parks. We are also Disney nerds and would go every year if we could.:p

aggiefamily 01-26-2011 04:57 PM

Ultimate dream vacation is somewhere like Bora Bora with DH.

I would love to finally take a honeymoon and go to either somewhere around Cozumel or Disney World. We hope to do this in a couple years.

Our family just got back from our dream vacation to WDW. The boys are already planning our next trip!

So what is it with Scotland then? I live about an hour from the Scottish/English border. It's always cold and windy up there and it always rains whenever I go! You'll all need your umbrellas if you go :D

Those green hills. Those castles. Those lakes. That magic. That whiskey. Aaaah! :)
We had 4 days of nonain during our 3 weeks vacation. :D And sometimes you have to buy a postcard to see how that particular place looks without fog. :D
But I still loved it and want to come back. :)

DH and I did this for our honeymoon (not all states of course, but several) and we loved it! We got the Passport book and plan on going back every year and hitting a different state each time. But that won't be for a few years yet.

Gabbina 01-27-2011 07:07 AM

Of course, since I already live in Italy, I would love to come to the States :p I've been there twice already, but this time I would love to go to New York, maybe Washington. Who knows, it may be this summer.
Other than that, Japan and Australia (a part of my bf family lives there, so i'll go eventually :D )

This. I was there last year, and love it SO MUCH. I've travelled a lot in Europe, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Spain... But I have to say the one place I'm sure I want to go back is Scotland.

adrianka 01-27-2011 07:10 AM

Actually, I've been thinking about a trip to The Hague and to Keukenhof for some years now, and hopefully can do it this year, so Holland is not as lonely as it seems to be. :-) Amsterdam is a part of my plans, too, but I don't think this year.

Hahaha, shall I tell you a joke? I have lived approx. 5km from the Keukenhof....and I never been there :o Hihi. The only thing I see are loads of buses going there :p But it is beautiful....I know that for sure!

I totally believe you! That's the way it is. I'm 2 hours away from Paris (if I took TGV) and in my 6 years in Luxembourg, I haven't been there, even though it seems weird to everybody including me. But you beat me, 5 km *is* much closer, hehe. :-)

We're actually planning a trip to Keukenhof in May when some friends from the US will be here visiting. DH and I have been there before it was a year that they held the Elf Fantasy fair there. Beautiful place.

As for being lonely, being that I live in Zuid Limburg we pretty much stay lonely here...most people don't choose to visit this far south. But that is one of the reasons we live here...a bit quieter. :)

Jengerbread88 01-27-2011 02:13 PM

I want to go to Holland. I dated a guy from there once, he passed away after we broke up. I'd like to go there still, though!

Hihi, I lived there for 30 years and drove past the Keukenhof a million times!

Oh and I would love to live in Southern Limburg Firewolf....I can't stand the traffic here sometimes!

kim21673 01-27-2011 09:02 PM

Well....my dream vacation was always Australia and New Zealand but....I did that. Spent a whole summer down under back in 2003!!!! Traveled and saw a lot during that time! I would love to go back someday b/c there is still so much to see, expecially in Australia.

So...I guess my next dream vacation would be to travel in Europe....threre are A LOT of places there that I would like to see.

Going to Iceland on vacation always has been my dream, ever since I was a kid! Next up on my list probably would be New Zealand!

Dottie 01-28-2011 05:38 AM

DH and I are actually doing "one" of our dream vacation at the end of April. We are flying to New York for 5 nights, then pick up a rental and heading to LA for 5 nights.

For 2 1/2 weeks in between will be heading through Philadelphia, Washington DC, Nashville, Memphis, Dallas, Kansas City, Colorado and onto Vegas. Our plans are kinda loosey goosey so we can stop and stay where we like. Only New York and LA accommodation are booked.

Any tips or ideas on what to see or where to stay, would be greatly appreciated:)

Iceland has been my dream since I was 14 years old. It's just so unique and beautiful and a fairytale-like (in a nicely spooky way, too) and it kind of speaks to me... well you know what I mean. Glad to hear I'm not the only one. :-)

I also dreamed about studying English and Icelandic, but that option wasn't available in Slovakia. Now that Iceland has applied for EU membership there are language courses available at the Commission, but since their start overlapped with Mum's diagnosis and a very bad period of my life, I opted out. But still - what can be better than to learn preserved Old Norse? *dreamy sigh*
