Today is National Pecan Day
So - how do you pronounce it?
and just so everyone knows, I was not compensated for this poll in any way by the National Pecan Board or whomever got this day named as Pecan day, nor is the poll biased in any fashion, whatsoever - it's the truth! :p |
ha, ha - correct way vs incorrect way... love how you worded the answers!
I say it the "correct way"... annoys me when watching a cooking show and they say pee-can... then, you just lost me... I'm now saying "peecan pie" in a nasal voice... ;) my son thinks it's funny... |
I say it the right way and everyone always makes fun of me!
|
hahaha Now I want to bake something with pecans.
|
We call them squirrel bait behind closed doors, it's the correct way in public ;)
|
LOLOL Keely
|
neither, lol
I say pee-cahn |
Well, that's wrong, too, Heather, but not as wrong as pee can :p

I always thought pee-can was a northern thing...my aunt is from Wisconsin and she always says "pee-can"
We say "peh-cahn"...but you have to really drag out the cahn lol |

I say it the way heather says it.. but i voted pee can.. because. but yes.. i say pee cahn
|
I say peh-cahn but like Nikki the "peh" is fast and cahn is like cahhhnnnnn (slight exaggeration lol)
I can't stand pecans though blech |

I say it the incorrect way. Always have.
I also use the word soda...not pop. |

Soda is what you use in baking and to make your fridge smell better :) |
I've heard of a lot of people using coke as the general soda term but I've never heard of soda put that way. lol
Not sure if it's just an Ohio thing or something. And I'm notorious for saying y'all and yins (A PA thing) Quote:

actually now that I think of it I say pee-cahn too. Im a little mixed up I guess. Halfway in between the two.
|
LOL I just have pepsi in this house so I ask for a pepsi ;)
but in general I call them soda pop Quote:
|
I don't know for sure! But I think I say it like Heather and La - pee cahn. lol Oh and I grew up in Wisconsin :)

And back to the topic...I pronounce it correctly...and now I want to pick up some pecans at the farmer's market. |
Definitely the correct (in other words, the SOUTHERN way). And yes, everything is a coke. :P

And I don't get why people want to say pee-can or pee-cahn.... that just sounds so gross. lol |

We pronounce it pee-kin, cause we're different like that. I didn't even know there was another way to say it.
|
I'm another of the hybrid variety who pronounces it pee-cahn.
But I hate them, so I don't spend a lot of time talking about them. ;) |
The correct way. :)
|
How could you people hate pecans?! I just don't get it.:p

I'm not sure if I'm in the pee-cahn or peh-cahn category. To me they aren't really that different so I think it might depend on my mood, haha.

I've never heard anyone call all soda coke. That's just weird. Coke is a brand-name. Sorry but Sprite and Root Beer are not Coke. :D |

LOL how long have you lived in Texas and not heard that? Although I never considered Sprite/7-Up to be coke...just the dark colas. |

Born and bred in California and it's Puh-cahn and soda. Coke= cocacola not every soda on the planet and baking soda is what you use to cook with..
