i hate tornados

Currently huddled in the basement with the kids until midnight. I hate this. :( sirens going off all over. Think good thoughts for us!

BrattyMeg 05-22-2011 12:12 AM

stay safe! <3

Kenzi 05-22-2011 12:15 AM

We are too! I hope it passes over and turns out to be nothing, but those sirens always make me uneasy :(

hollyxann 05-22-2011 12:19 AM

Prayers coming your way. Stay safe!

Melissa Bennett 05-22-2011 01:00 AM

sending prayers. Stay safe.

g8rbeckie 05-22-2011 02:02 AM

That mess passed north of us about 5 hours ago. Thinking if you, hope everything works out just FINE!

Jengerbread88 05-22-2011 02:11 AM

Yup, we were, too. I'm in Spring Hill.

Everything looks safe, and good here.

Our exchange student from Sweden said his one goal was to have a tornado warning while he was here....

.....he leaves tomorrow. Tonight was his last night here. And his first tornado warning.

MommaTrish 05-22-2011 08:11 AM

How you Kansas ladies doing? I just heard it touched down someone there.

cardinalskate 05-22-2011 08:18 AM

This tornado season has been crazy already! We've already been in the basement about 5 times this year. That's not including the weird, weird, weird tornado that touched down a mile from my house on New Year's Eve. Hope everyone stayed safe. Those suckers are nothing to mess with.

heathergw 05-22-2011 08:31 AM

how are you guys doing?

I hate tornado season!!!

Jengerbread88 05-22-2011 12:10 PM

I can't vouch for all the Kansas ladies, but most of us in Spring Hill, Olathe, Gardner, Edgerton should be fine. No touch downs there... radar-indicated microburst, but nothing actually happened outside of the radar indication.

The worst was outside of Reading and Pomona, and I don't *think* we have any forum girls there, but I could be wrong. 1 injury, last I heard, no deaths. Everything was an EF1 or too small to really register.

ETA: I was wrong. Looks like there was 1 death in Reading, and about 20 homes destroyed. But again, I'm pretty sure no forum girls are there. http://www.nbcactionnews.com/dpp/wea...omes-destroyed

However, we have another wave possible today, so, heads up... :/

Everyone stay safe! ;)

kscwgirl 05-22-2011 01:19 PM

yes we have severe thunderstorms (hail, high winds etc) predicted for the next 3 days. Sigh.

emmasmommy 05-22-2011 03:59 PM

love you lady. hope y'all are ok. imma wait until i hear FROM YOU, before i assume anything.

Kara 05-22-2011 04:10 PM

We're in our basement, too. One just passed over our house. Things seem to be clearing up for now, but it is a crazy time of year.

pomi 05-22-2011 04:12 PM

Thinking of you, girls. Stay safe!

MamaBee 05-22-2011 06:09 PM

Ugh - we've been in the basement twice this evening for tornado warnings.. and now waiting for another storm line to come through in a few hours... so, I hear you!! I hate tornado season, too!

y'all stay safe!

Shawna 05-22-2011 07:50 PM

I hate tornados :( I just saw on Facebook that one touched down in Joplin, MO in the last hour or so maybe and it sounds like there is pretty extensive damage :(

Jengerbread88 05-22-2011 08:08 PM

I guess the one in Reading last night was an EF3, rather than an EF1 like they initially thought.

From what I've heard, the Joplin tornado tonight WAS pretty bad, which is unfortunate and scary... :( It sounds like it hit their hospital.

emmasmommy 05-22-2011 08:10 PM

my bff lives in monett, i guess it's really bad there :(

cardinalskate 05-22-2011 08:23 PM

Storms coming our way tonight. Looks like we're gonna be cozy in our basement tonight.

shaynesgirl 05-22-2011 08:28 PM

Sirens just went off here too. Definitely is the season. Was 79 at lunchtime and dropped to 67 within an hour. Gotta love the midwest.

maryinaz 05-22-2011 08:45 PM

My mom and sisters live in Joplin. My mom and one sister have basements, the other one had to crawl under her house, but they are OK. They are just finding out about friends who have lost houses.

I hate the weather there! Wish they would all move out here where the worst thing is 110 degree heat.

The guy on the Weather Channel has been having a hard time holding it together. He's out by the hospital.

Darcy Baldwin 05-22-2011 08:58 PM

The images are awful :( Just imagining people in the houses and in that hospital.

We're sitting here watching the same storm line coming through here...and already preparing some of the emergency stuff, just in case.

Tornadoes seem fiercer this year..and in more populated areas than in years past.

Kara 05-22-2011 09:00 PM

A tornado hit north Minneapolis tonight, just a few miles from where I live. This is crazy stuff with tornadoes everywhere!

taracotta7 05-22-2011 10:28 PM

All my extended family lives in Joplin, Carthage, Neosho area of Missouri. I am very thankful to say that all are okay. Only one house of a family member has damage but not horrible. We had a scary couple of hours when we couldn't locate my cousin with his son....so glad they finally were able to get home and let people know they are ok.

Reports from my family say it is really bad. Half the hospital is gone. I can't even imagine the trouble they are having taking care of injuries and deaths from this situation when they also took a hit. Joplin just needs lots of prayer.

rachaelsscraps 05-22-2011 10:39 PM

Wow..
I'm thinking of all you ladies and hope you all (and your friends and family) stay safe!

kim21673 05-22-2011 11:08 PM

YIKES! I hope the storms blow over fast!!!

It was pretty bad here earlier and they advised us to seek shelter and NOT wait for the sirens b/c the storms were coming so fast. Thankfully it blew over within an hour...it's still storming all around us but not too bad here now.

I freak out every time I hear the sirens...a tornado went through my hometown last year...not even a 1/4 of a mile from my parent's house (it touched down on the west side of town and stayed on the ground all the way to the east side of town where my parents live)...it's so strange going back home and seeing the devastation...there are still houses that haven't been rebuilt.

Stay safe!!!

I think you've got it: more populated areas and more population!

Jengerbread88 05-23-2011 02:14 AM

The Joplin hit is very devastating. I've been watching and reading the stories, and it just hurts my heart. :(

maryinaz 05-23-2011 02:46 AM

My sister and her family are working triage in one of the make-shift medical units (in the high school I attended). She said patients from the hospital that was hit are coming there. They are without power and still have not seen all the photos and videos of devastation the rest of the country has seen. The city has turned off all the gas (which is what runs most of my mom's house) and there is a boil order. So I'm worried about her - she's almost 90 and lives alone. One of my sisters is going to get her tomorrow and make her stay with her. Then she is flying out here to AZ on Thursday with my other sister.

I am just heartbroken as I see the many buildings and landmarks I grew up with now in shambles or completely gone. Some of my lifelong friends have lost their houses and we still have friends unaccounted for. One Catholic church has been demolished, with only it's giant cross still standing.

I have a trip scheduled to go Joplin in June, so I guess I'll be seeing some of this for myself. :(

Julie Billingsley 05-23-2011 03:33 AM

that is just so horrible about Joplin! :( The pastor of my church is from Missouri and he and several others in our church admin went to Ozark Christian College in Joplin. Even though we are in Oregon, our church has strong ties to Joplin and our hearts and prayers reach out to that community.

brooke22 05-23-2011 05:36 AM

Wow that is scary, so many natural disasters.
Thoughts going out to all the affected areas.

MissKim 05-23-2011 07:00 AM

Oh, my heart is aching for Joplin. We're familiar with the town and stop there every time we go to Branson (which is 3-4 times a year). What devastation.

melrio 05-23-2011 07:45 AM

Our thoughts & prayers to those in Joplin.

We have either had tornados or fierce flooding in Arkansas for over a month. I'm sick of this weather and this year, the tornados do seem worse. We received over 3 inches of rain Friday night alone. Every day it rains and for the next 3 days, we're in the swathe of a moderate risk of severe weather. REALLY!?!?!?!? Hope everyone stays safe.

The president of that college was my minister at the church I attended in college in Southern Illinois. I have been trying to find out if his family is ok!!!
