Please tell me Im not the only one grossed out by putting mayonaise in cake? First I can barely tolerate mayo in food. I like miracle whip. Second I dont like chocolate very much. I will eat german chocolate occasionally because I love the frosting with coconut and caramel. But the thought of that just grosses me out. It like my friend telling me she found a recipe for meatballs which calls for grape jelly? :p She claims they are good but yea I think Ill pass on those too.

lol!

actually -- mayo in a cake and grape jelly on meatballs are both delicious.

DH's fave cake is a mayo one. Mayo is just eggs, water and oil. It makes the cake super moist.

And grape jelly just gives the meatballs a sweet kick -- which you add other things to make it sweet tangy.

But...it also does sound gross.

Yes, it seems weird to me too. But if you think what mayo consists of, some of the traditional ingredients are pretty ok (egg yolks and oil), some seem tolerable (lemon juice or vinegar, pepper, salt), while some of them seem very strange to put in a cake (mustard). It all depends what the actual mayo is made of, I guess, but I'm with you. :-)

OK, so I took a look at the list of ingredients in that particular one (soybean oil, eggs, water, distilled and cider vinegar, salt, oleoresin paprika, natural flavors, calcium disodium EDTA added to protect flavor), and no, I wouldn't put that in a cake. :-D

That sounds pretty normal to me, though I don't do it. Weight Watchers has a chocolate cake recipe you put sauerkraut in and ppl swear by it. LOL

It does sound gross to me, but I know it makes for an awesome cake lol... only cause my Nana would make stuff like that when I was little. Omg! Yumm!

It sounds weird, but I'm sure it taste delish. I'm a cake-a-holic so my mouth is watering by watching that commercial :D

I like cake to and most people hate my favorite which is coconut. I love coconut in the cake and in the frosting. Just plain old vanilla fristing with coconut. I guess some people would think Im weird too LOL. And Traci I really dislike saurkraut....cant get over the smell. I went to my mother in laws like two days after she cooked it and had to leave pretty quickly cause the smell makes me nauseous

Basic mayo is eggs, water & oil, which is what you put in any cake you make, it's just emulsified which gives the cake a softer texture than adding the eggs, water & oil separately.

I love a sweet glaze on my meatballs or on grilled chicken, especially a sweet spicy combination like chipoltle BBQ sauce with some black raspberry jelly mixed in.

when I make meatballs I make more an italian style I guess. bread crumbs, egg, parmesan cheese, oragano...Im sure some other stuff. I got the recipe I think off a box of spaghetti. I used to make homemade meatballs often.

I have never been able to make a homemade cake which tastes nearly as good as a cake mix does. It always ended up tasting sorta floury. So I just use a cake mix.

Actually mayonnaise cakes are very tasty! The mayonnaise moistens the cake and makes it less dry. I also use sour cream in cakes and breads.

my favorite appetizer recipe is cocktail hot dogs in a sauce made with chili sauce and grape jelly. it's SO GOOD.

oh well I have made a jello dish that has sour cream in between layers of jello. It makes the sour cream sweet and flavored like the jello (you have to firm the first layer of jello before adding sour cream. If people hear the recipe they think it sounds gross but it is amazing. Also had loaf type cakes with sour cream. I guess probably because mayo kinda grosses me out on its own may be why I cant imagine it being good.
