Uhm... yeah... I'm guilty of some of these... :o

emmasmommy 08-10-2011 08:21 PM

We used to ALWAYS use Luke as an excuse to get out of social gatherings. LOL We do some now but not nearly as much.

definitely guilty of using the kids as an excuse, sigh

I love that because no one likes to talk about these feelings. And if you even mention the word "dislike my child sometimes" to other mothers, they look at you like you are the devil himself. I have friends who are all mothers and they never talk about the hard times. It makes me feel like I am strange for having a hard time parenting and mothering. I feel alone 98% of the time and that makes me real sad some days.

Ok that is my confession! FREEing for me!

Also guilty of some of these... especially using the kid to get out of social things. At least now I know I am not alone.

I do understand... I love my kid... but there are times when I need a timeout, too. ;)

I didn't realize that using your kids to get out of social obligations was a secret! I thought it was a perk!! I love using DD as an excuse to get out of doing things I don't want to do. I'll be so sad when she grows out of naptime and is in school FT. I'll have to have another kid by then, I gues! :p

I'm not a mother, but I get this. I know that if I had kids, I would pretty certainly feel overwhelmed (after all these years of having most of my time to myself)... And I think everybody feels like that from time to time. I hate the hypocrisy of people who pretend how perfect their lives are and then criticise you for the very same thing they try to keep secret. Some of the comments there were really nasty. Things like these - natural feelings - should be talked about more often. Less of the "be perfect, manage everything" crap and more of the "you're human like everybody else" honesty. Empathy is oddly lacking in so many people.

Yep, I've been guilty of most of those at one time or another. :o

scrapweaver 08-12-2011 03:02 AM

me too . .

I love the article! I'm guilty of some of those things too. It's good to know I'm not alone. Being a teacher definitely makes me feel like I have to stay on top of things with my son, but parenting is so much harder than teaching at school, even though I teach the same age group as my son (3-5 yrs).
