1st newborn shoot!
Oh my gosh, y'all! I am SO excited! One of my really good friends at church is pregnant & due in less than a month & she has asked me to do a newborn shoot when their baby girl gets here! But, I haven't done a newborn shoot yet. So, anyone have any pose ideas for me? Also, what are your favorite shops to get newborn photo props from? I definitely want to get a few things. I know I can just go look at Etsy, but I wanted to ask y'all if y'all had any specific favorites! Thanks! :)

How exciting!!! Love the little babies.
Definitely Pinterest :lub: I have a HUGE photo inspiration folder on there. I like to keep newborns pretty simple. Do you have a bean bag? They really help with posing the little ones (along with some extra little burp rags/small flannel rags. Feel free to PM or YIM me and we can brainstorm/chat about ideas. :) |
Awww how exciting!! I loooove that photo using the Dr. Suess books!! So adorable!! I took my nephews newborn photos...If there is anything I can add it's to take her photos early!! My sister in law didn't bring him over for pictures until he was like 3 weeks old and already he had changed so much and was very opinionated when it came to not being clothed/held during the pictures!! Made for a very long day!! lol Good luck Deb!! I can't wait to see the pictures!!

Make sure you photograph the baby within the first ten days!!! They sleep more and you can do more fun things with them :)
|
Oh that's so exciting, you'll have to share some photos when you're done! :)

Jodie Otte has some beautiful work. She also recently posted an article about baby & newborn photography safety that I found very interesting (and disturbing in terms of babies being injured).
|
Oh, Stacy, thanks! I will go check those out now!

I don't know if you'll get very many ideas from this site since she shoots really simple shots, but they're absolutely gorgeous!

I had my son's newborn photos taken at 10 days and he REFUSED to go to sleep! So yeah, I'd even recommend withing the first 7 days to be honest.
Good luck, hope you share them with us when you have done the shoot :) |
Oh, Maria, those are GORGEOUS!!! I love simple! :)
Julia, thanks. I'll be sure to get it in the first week then! :) |
If you don't have a bean bag, a whole mess of folded up blankets will work too. Or a boppy covered with a blanket.
Keep the room where you plan to shoot extra warm. Bring a cheap space heater if you can. Try and plan it so that you arrive right when he's normally ready to be fed. Then mom can feed him while you're setting up, and hopefully once you're ready he'll have a full belly and will be ready to sleep. :) |
Oh, Col! I actually have a boppy! Wouldn't've thought about that! Thanks! & I have lots of pillows & blankets too! :) Hmmm...I don't have a space heater & they sure aren't selling them here right now. But, I'll have a heating pad & I'll ask the mom if they've got one! & great tip to shoot around feeding time! Hopefully she'll be a happy, content, full, sleepy baby! ;)
