kindle sharing

does anyone here want to have a kindle books loan thread here?

Libby Pritchett 11-13-2011 07:37 PM

Yes! I was going to start one in a few weeks when my preorder comes in. I think it's a great idea!

Priscilla 11-13-2011 07:43 PM

I've read you can only loan a book out one time. IS that one time EVER?? Or one time to that person?

A friend loaned The Hunger Games to me. Does that mean she can't loan it to Friend B now that I am done?!

MissKim 11-13-2011 07:50 PM

It's one time ever.

I have over 60 books on my Kindle list and only 2 of them are lendable. I don't think the lending feature is that great for Kindle yet.

Libby Pritchett 11-13-2011 08:02 PM

Oh I didn't know that, Kim! I thought it was 1 time per person... how do the libraries do it then?

MissKim 11-13-2011 08:13 PM

Came back to edit: Maybe I'm wrong. I thought once you loaned a Kindle book, that was it. No more loaning that book.

The big issue is that not all books are loanable. In fact, most aren't.

Libraries are different. I'm guessing they buy different licenses.

Libby Pritchett 11-13-2011 08:25 PM

Well, that's a bummer if that's how it is. I honestly don't know... I just assumed. I need to get on the list at our library for some books, but the last time I looked, it was a MASSIVE list. I'd love if we could loan here among each other at SSD. Guess we have some investigating to do! LOL

MissKim 11-13-2011 08:31 PM

OK, I looked and I had loaned out The Hangman's Daughter a few weeks ago. It's been returned, but I no longer have the option to lend it.

None of my popular books is available for lending. I have one nonfiction book and one religious book I can lend. Lendability is determined by the publisher and it seems most mainstream publishers do not allow it. My Janet Evanovich, John Sandford, Kristin Hannah... none of those are lendable. It doesn't seem to be related to when the book was published either. I have some of Evanovich's first books and they're not available to lend.

However, if anyone wants to read about the Warren Jeffs saga or read Left Behind on Kindle, those are the two books I have available.

I second this! You also earn money for borrowing your books and once you reach the $10 mark, they send you an Amazon GC.

yeah, unfortunately it is one time per book for personal lending. Libraries belong to a thing called Overdrive and pay really big bucks to do so, my local library had to get together with 5 other counties & form a group to be able to afford it. The can lend multiple times because of the high fees they pay.

I'm on lendle too - http://lendle.me/users/stacey42/

Here's my profile on Lendle if anyone wants to add me :): http://lendle.me/users/28445/

I finally got around to signing up for Lendle and adding my books to my profile. If anyone wants to follow me: http://lendle.me/users/libbyp/

Also, for those of us who are already signed up, we should all post our referral codes so that others can sign up (and we can earn extra borrow credits). My code is ESY5AVHO

This is the first I've heard of Lendle, might have to check it out!

I think that will get you to me. I don't have many books, though... and even fewer that are lendable.

Click on the arrow up on the You tab and choose Your profile. I think that's how you get it. :) If you choose Your account and then click on refer friends, you can get the referral code for people to sign up.

BTW, if there are others who want to sign up, my code is: BW94LELC
