Dec 16- QotD- What is your tree topper?

Last year, tragedy struck the Billingsley house... early in the season, our star tree topper took a nose dive off the tree and broke. I wasn't really choked up about it until I went to the store to find a new one... and another store... and another store... and ... and... you get the picture. Suddenly I realized how awesome that tree topper had been. It was perfect and nothing else came close. So last year we didn't have a tree topper for Christmas. The tree was sad without it and I vowed another Christmas would not happen until I had a tree topper. Famous last words. LOL So, this year I started early and got to all the stores and still couldn't find a great topper. I guess I'm too picky about toppers. :p So we have a temporary topper for now, until the perfect one can be found. I guess you could say I'm passionate about the tree topper.

So, how about you? What tops your tree and do you love it?

Milmomma 12-16-2011 08:46 PM

Last year we had 0 choice, there was glittery stars, or glittery stars. (Give we only have one store to shop at here) I Hate glittery crap. I was so mad, I went to the two other bases up North and found in the back hidden away a White perfect pretty angel. Man, I snatched her up so fast. Honestly I want the Tinkerbell tree topper but wanna wait till we are back in the states to order her. I don't want her broken in the mail and then be heart broken. I'm so sorry to hear yours took a nose dive. :(

Jennilyn 12-16-2011 08:48 PM

I said Other because we have 2 trees...one with a star and one with an angel.

kim21673 12-16-2011 08:50 PM

We have two trees...one is mine with all snowmen and snowflakes so the topper is actually a snowman. The family tree has a star on top!!!

jessica31876 12-16-2011 08:55 PM

I said other because my tree hits the ceiling (7.5 foot tall the box says but I swear it is taller). So we have nothing on the top. Our ceilings are peaked but I cannot put it in the taller part of the house because there is already furniture there so it is next to the wall and I guess it is right at 7.5 foot there. Before that Ive had a bow, an angel and a star in the past

We actually have Tinkerbell for the top of ours and I love her! She sits nestled at the top of the tree, with her wand poised to make magic. Her wings are fiber optic too.

OMG, that is ridiculous...we got her the year before last on disneystore.com and she was clearance, lol.

SweetMelissa 12-16-2011 09:09 PM

We don't have a tree topper. We have a pre-lite tree and there is no plug at the top to plug a tree topper in & all of the ones we've found that don't need to be plugged in were easily $30+ and DH wasn't paying that much.

Our tree is on its last leg (its tilting at the top) so this will be its last year. We plan to pick one up after Christmas on sale.

MamaBee 12-16-2011 09:12 PM

This year it's a bow... but the last year it was a star... and I know what you mean about trying to find a decent tree topper... I got two and they look so big on the tree... and a third, I finally found a decent star - right size and everything - at a rummage sale. ;)

when i was really little, we had an angel. it lit up and had sparkly wings. but i'm pretty sure it had a very sad death due to water damage. so for the past 15 or so years, we've had a star. it's kinda generic. gold metal, filigree, kinda boring. but it works.

currently it's tipping off the tree. cause the tree is slightly too tall for the living room...

maryinaz 12-16-2011 09:29 PM

A star. Always a star. On all our trees. And it has to be lighted.

But yeah, good ones are hard to come by. Like Julie, ours broke last year and I had to get a crappy one to replace it. I forgot about getting a new one this year and when I looked around...still crappy ones. I guess I should look online for one after Christmas or something because the stores sure don't have any good ones.

terrab 12-16-2011 09:30 PM

We got a new tree topper from the disney store this year with Mickey and Minnie on top.

pewtertm 12-16-2011 09:40 PM

I grew up with an angel topping our family tree, but I haven't found one that I liked since I got married, so right now we've got a star.

lovely1m 12-16-2011 09:52 PM

We have a Santa. I needed something small cause our tree is rather sad and small. lol It was the smallest I could find. I grew up with an angel. Nicholas asked for a star this year, I should look for one for him. We still haven't put up the tree here.

rachaelsscraps 12-16-2011 09:57 PM

We have a glittery gold star. It's the same one we've had for the past 6 or 7 years.

kscwgirl 12-16-2011 10:08 PM

I have a small angel.

NeverendingJen 12-16-2011 10:30 PM

A lit star, and only a lit star. I can't imagine my tree with anything else.

YepBrook 12-16-2011 11:33 PM

We have a lit star on the top of our tree. I love it!

emmasmommy 12-16-2011 11:43 PM

well, this year we got a new tree and it's a wee bit taller than our old one. our star didn't fit so i went out and bought a pertty, purple bow.

KyRainbow 12-17-2011 12:20 AM

For as long as I can remember, growing up, we had a beautiful angel with lights that made her skirt glow and lights in her wings. She finally broke 2 years ago and I bought an elongated fiber optic star. I don't love it, but I can't find an angel I love to replace it with.

mariewilcox 12-17-2011 05:00 AM

We have a beautiful angel - she's ceramic and has a pretty satin dress with lace and satin wings. She lights up under the dress on the bottom and has one light between her hands.

I've had her since DH had our first Christmas together 28 years ago. We picked her out together in a little Christmas shop out in Old Town (San Diego) shortly after we got married (October). It brings back good memories for me because DH was so intent on finding the perfect angel for our tree :)

julia 12-17-2011 05:18 AM

We have a cheap IKEA star on ours... I don't love it, but can't find anything I'd rather have, you know!? Kinda like you Julie, just waiting to find the "one" :D

We have this in silver:

In Slovakia you traditionally put something like this on your tree top:

I made a departure years ago and started using a huge red bow, but about 2 years ago I started using a red [insert the English term for what's in the picture above] again.

Julie Billingsley 12-17-2011 12:36 PM

that would be called a finial, Adrianka :)

KateD 12-17-2011 12:45 PM

We have an angel on top of our tree. My parents have had an angel on top of their tree for more than 40 years, so I can't do anything else. I guess I was lucky to find one that I liked when we got our first tree. It isn't exactly what I was looking for at the time, but we've had it for so long that I can't imagine having anything else!

Thanks. :-) I sure never heard that word, but now I'm going to remember it. One of the many assets of this community for me has been widening my vocabulary. ;-)

nikkiARNGwife 12-17-2011 01:00 PM

An angel. It's been on our tree since the first Christmas we were married and I hope it will be there the last :).

My parents' tree still has the same angel they've had for 39 years of marriage.

digideb 12-17-2011 01:12 PM

I have this one...

I collect Boyd's Bears & wanted an angel tree topper, so when I saw this, I knew it was perfect! ♥

QuiltyMom 12-17-2011 02:35 PM

We have an angel that I made from vintage hankerchiefs on our tree, and I love it!

Jenn Barrette 12-17-2011 03:30 PM

We have a really nice snowflake; silver metal with pearl beads.

scrapweaver 12-18-2011 12:01 AM

I have an old angel that belonged to my grandmother . . she would have to be about 15 years old if not 20. I think she's beautiful, but she's not fancy at all and the little girls always ask if we can get another one, so every Christmas I tell them about Nanny's angel and how special she is to me  especially as Nanny is no longer with us

Love this! :)
