What to take to Paris.....?

We are going to Paris tomorrow and although I want to take lots of beautiful pictures, I don't really want to carry around my big camerabag all day. So, I noticed that my Canon fits in my normal purse perfectly and I still have room for my wallet and some other things without getting too heavy.

But....
- do I really need my external flash?
- a big tripod?
- I have a 18-200mm lens on my Canon, do I need my 75-300mm and 105mm?

My hubby says I only need to bring a compact camera....but I have a Nikon and I am not too thrilled about the photos it makes....and I know I would be so disappointed to come home with all blurry photos.

What would you do?

I am ok with my "travel lens" 18-250mm (though I suspect the 250mm is generously measured, it's more a 200mm) in towns. When you're with other people, in crowds and without tripods it's hard anyway to take sharp and good tele shots. So I doubt the 300mm will be something that you'll desperately need. Especially as you can always just crop detail shots when you have a good resolution camera.

I wouldn't bring a tripod either. Is it realistic, that you'll carry it around with you and use it? Paris during December will probably be packed with people, so you have to have a lot of discipline and patience to set up a tripod. Not sure your husband will enjoy that?

I agree with your husband. Or else, just take the camera and one lens. You don't want to run around Paris with a tripod and stuff. It's crowded and there are actually thieves around. I think you'll enjoy the city more if you don't carry too many paraphernalia with you. :-) And I agree with Inga - you hubby might not enjoy it. It's nice to have pretty photos, but it's not just about the photos, it's more about the city experience and the time spent together.
