Can we talk hair removal????

Okay girls. We are approaching bathing suit time and it always makes me wonder how others do their "maintenance" in the bikini area. SO, what do you do? Wax, shave, laser removal?????? I have never been successful shaving. Ever. I am actually considering a home laser removal system like this one (image is linked)......

Oh or if you have any tips for getting a great shave minus the irritating little bumps, that would be awesome too. :)

krystalhartley 05-13-2013 09:51 AM

aaaahhhhhhh! You have SugarBabe under your name!

krystalhartley 05-13-2013 09:53 AM

And I'll be watching this thread. I shave to maintain 'cause it's the most convenient/easiest for me, but I certainly find it a chore. Evolution needs to catch up to us girls wanting to be hair-free.

krystalhartley 05-13-2013 09:55 AM

For that matter, I wouldn't care if guys didn't have any hair on their bodies either.

Shawna Clingerman 05-13-2013 10:05 AM

this sounds crazy - but if you apply a solid deodorant/antiperspirant to the area after you shave it can cut down on razor burn...

I hate the maintenance of this area too!

taracotta7 05-13-2013 10:07 AM

Krystal, I am all for being hairless. That would be awesome for men and women! LOL

Shawna - I have NEVER heard of that! WOOT! I just learned something new!

thompsonc2007 05-13-2013 10:11 AM

Well, I have not ever had laser hair removal on my bikini area but I have on my face. I went with Sona Med Spa in Greensboro, NC (I think they have multiple locations in several states). For years I struggled with excess hair on my cheeks, chin and upper lip (stinking polycystic ovarian syndrome). Laser treatments have worked great! It was a bit pricey but effective. I believe it totaled a little more than $1,000...but with as much as it bothered me it was worth it. After you have one package any additional packages you buy are 50%. Good luck and I will be watching this thread:)

Same here. I'm too big of a wuss to wax.

I've done laser hair removal and it has helped a lot although I didn't finish all the treatments yet. I just touch up with a razor.

Traci Reed 05-13-2013 11:06 AM

brand new Sugarbabe and already talking about her hoo-ha!

Wasn't that in the requirements? I am sure that was part of it.

I wax. I'm a big girl which kept me from doing it for a long time because I was worried about what they would think, but it was the best hygiene decision I've ever made!

If you go to someone who is good (I go to European Wax Center if you have one nearby), she'll be done in 5 mins or less and it lasts for 3-4 weeks easy and when you go back after the first time, it's nowhere near as painful. The hair really thins out after a few visits too so it's no big deal at all.

Seriously... best. decision. ever. Shaving sucked in comparison. I have an appointment on Friday so that all of you are aware of the status of my girly bits. I can't wait. I'm that excited to have my hair down there yanked out.

pewtertm 05-13-2013 12:11 PM

LOL after watching Glozell's NADS video on Youtube I'm definitely too much of a wuss to try wax!
I do have a friend who runs an electrolysis shop, and she has done several bikini/full leg jobs...but you'd have to be comfy with someone getting up in there with a big old magnifying glass. Plus it takes time, you have to keep going back for awhile...and it can hurt a bit and swell at first.

Keely~B 05-13-2013 12:40 PM

I'm way too chicken for waxing, I don't like anyone up in my business, and on my legs I can't stand to let the hair get that long. I'd love to get laser treatments for my legs more than anything, I have some seriously hairy legs and have to shave all the time. It's blond but I look like Edward in the sun, it glitters. You'd think there'd be better technology, I don't think lasers are very effective if you're glow in the dark white with blonde hair.

I have done wax a couple of times and loved the result. I have a pretty high pain tolerance so it never bothered me. I am not shy either! LOL I would really love to go for professional laser hair removal but the budget isn't there for that right now. I may schedule a wax. I REALLY hate shaving. HATE it. I barely shave my legs so doing bikini is total torture. I have shaving. See......laser removal is what I NEED. LOL

Yes, I hear laser is best for fair/medium completed with dark hair.

SeattleSheri 05-13-2013 01:43 PM

I tried waxing once and I got terrible ingrown hairs and "razor burn" ... it looked worse than the hair I waxed off ... which, obviously isn't good, lol.

I would love to have laser hair removal, but just haven't gotten around to it ... and also it's kind of pricey, so I'm waiting for a good deal. Right now, I use a product called Coochy (from Amazon) and it is the only product that doesn't produce razor burn for me.

ripal 05-13-2013 01:47 PM

Look out for groupon/Living Social deals for laser. That's how I got mine done for face. I bet there were some for Mother's Day... they might be still active!

YepBrook 05-13-2013 01:54 PM

I can't keep up with shaving... ugh. I have to shave EVERY DAY it grows back so fast. And I have sensitive skin, so the bumps are a problem for me, too. I want to get it all waxed so bad, but I am too shy!!! :o

kim21673 05-13-2013 02:19 PM

I'm way too shy to get a wax....I just shave.EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.....sigh

AmberK 05-13-2013 02:50 PM

Has anybody used the NoNo hair removal system?

Robin Carlton 05-13-2013 02:51 PM

Oooh good question Amber. Ive been curious about that too.

~Cindy~ 05-13-2013 08:02 PM

I don't even like the ob being there. Waxing isn't for me lol! I could probably handle it if it was someone I knew. My husband has one of those beard trimmers and he had bought another. So I just use the old one and it doesn't cause the bumps/ingrown hairs. It doesn't shave all the way to the skin though. I just shave and if its not completely to the skin I don't care! No one should be looking there anyway lol!

Let me just say I used my husbands face razor the one with the thing that comes out to trim your face. OMG it cut me to hell and back. My husband felt so bad hahaha It hurt like hell. So DO NOT use one of those.

taracotta7 05-13-2013 08:07 PM

Oh I have used a mustache trimmer for mine before. I agree, Cindy......it gets it done but not all the way to the skin. Better than nothing. :) And it doesn't irritate. :)

nun69 05-13-2013 08:23 PM

ummm I don't get much out in the sun in a bathing suit (WA, so not always very very warm here) but when I do I just shave.....I would love to get a wax.....I am not shy, been in the medical field for 20+ years and figure people that wax probably see is much of the giurly parts as an ob does so it's nothing but a thing to them LOL!:D

mrshobbes 05-13-2013 08:36 PM

I shave, but oh man have I wanted to try waxing for the longest time and just take it all out! I spoke about it to the hubs last week, and he has expressed that he's willing to fund it, LOL. I should've asked for laser hair removal all together and see if his generosity will remain!

lovely1m 05-13-2013 08:50 PM

I shave. I do not the bumps because I have been doing it long enough that it stopped. I don't even need to use shaving cream any more from doing it often enough and long enough.

hollydolly70 05-13-2013 08:58 PM

Hi Amber - I bought and tried the NO-No last summer. I tried it once - and the stench of my own hair burning - was literally making me GAG... it was just horrible - and even after bathig - could still smell it... I immediately called the company - and had no problems getting full refund. The NO-No - was definitely a NO-NO for me!! LOL

Hi Amber

this thread makes me so super happy that i'm naturally nearly hairless... just the thought of having to do *any* of this gets me all twitchy.

You have NO IDEA how jealous I am of that! That would be heavenly!

My mom was this way, so I am jealous too! I really had to go inherit my dad's hairiness *sigh*

sczos911 05-13-2013 09:26 PM

It seems like my skin is getting more and more irritated with the shaving (or I am just doing a half assed job and not paying attention) but I am for sure looking into waxing. The thought of not shaving for a few weeks through just to be able to wax drives me batty, but it'll be worth it.

That is my problem too. That is why I like the laser idea (either professionally or the home one I linked at beginning). They recommend you shave before you go in. The less hair, the less it hurts. So that is nice. I wouldn't have the in between crazy stage. LOL

All I have to add to this conversation is I think it is so unfair the things we women have to deal with compared to men.

this!

kscwgirl 05-13-2013 10:54 PM

I can't even think of waxing... omg. no. I have no pain tolerance and the thought makes me want to cry. I shave.. but.. I hate it. I hate shaving.

kristalund 05-14-2013 09:07 AM

I just started Laser Hair Removal for our upcoming Cancun vacation and OOUUCCHHH!!!!

YES! Who started this 'shaving' thing? They need a spanking. I so wish I could go live in a hippie commune sometimes so I could just be natural without judgement. LOL...

Stacey42 05-14-2013 09:24 AM

I stick with a razor mostly, though I get my eyebrows waxed or threaded every so often. I'd get a bikini wax if anyplace around here did it. I'd go for a Brazillian if I could find it. Just to save some time this summer. I don't mind shaving my legs, they are easy but bikini line requires more attention to detail & takes longer so I wear little bathing suit skirts mostly & don't have to think about it at all.

pewtertm 05-14-2013 11:44 AM

LOL Brook, I've known women who go au naturel...and once I got used to it, it wasn't any big thing. Except for the one who didn't do deodorant either Didn't like to sit too close to her.

lliella 05-14-2013 12:11 PM

tried No-No several years ago on my legs and it's a piece of junk :( i have even tried the sand paper like thing on my arms-- would remove the soft hairs only.
i bought a Viss IPL machine years ago and it does work if you use it regularly like every 2 weeks. hair that grows back are thinner and takes longer to grow. but i am lazy and haven't use it for months, then the hairs do come back, but still not like before where hair is dark and thick. works best on upper lip, finger hair (yes i have those). legs took a bit longer. bikini area took so long that i gave up. i noticed hair that grows back are softer and fewer, but nothing dramatic :(
