Digital Scrapping 'Cheating'

I made a page with Traci's new kit about a Memorial Day BBQ we had with some friends 2 years ago.

Guess what we're doing tomorrow?! A BBQ with (different) friends.

I'm so excited that all I will have to do to get tomorrow scrapped is to make sure I take 5 good photos & then drop them in to the page I already made (since I just made it this week, I still have the TIFF) and change up the journaling.

I love 'cheating' in my scrapping! :p

Has anyone else created a page and then scrapped multiple similar events/years with it?

Yes... I've scrapped a few pages for my oldest son (e.g. first day of Kindergarten), then 2 years later I just change the photos and journalling to make a page for my youngest son.

Back when I did separate books for each kid, I would sometimes change the photos and journaling so I could get all 3 layouts about a particular event from the same page.

I often switch up photos in layouts, usually of the same day but different kid. But I did do that for DS first day of Kinder and DD's first day of kinder two years later (I am so far behind on my scrapping that I had both photos available at the same time)

Hmmm I haven't done that before and never thought of doing that until now! Haha! Thanks for the enlightenment, La! :p

I have never even thought of that. I do feel like I create the same layout designs over and over but I've never thought of replacing photos and calling it a day. What a good idea!

Nettio 05-30-2016 11:51 AM

I haven't done that but I do reuse designs and my own templates all the time. So you may find two layouts with the same design but different products/topics. If I did more event scrapping or year albums I could totally see reusing entire layouts - then I'd have more time for the pages I like to do instead.

Haven't ever thought to do that, but I now will keep it in mind when I want to get a page done quickly -- I love "cheating" if it makes things easier in scrapping!

Nope, never. Good idea but I flatten all my pages and then store them online so when they are done....they are done.

I've done it a couple of times when working on baby albums... It comes in handy....especially when trying to play catch up ;)

I can't say that I ever have but I can see how that would be an awesome time saver!

kendallt 05-31-2016 08:45 AM

While I've never done that, I've thought of doing this: Recently, I've been going through old pages trying to finally get everything printed. I'm not sure what to do with the "lovey dovey" pages I made for my ex-husband, but I really love the design of some of the pages. So, right now, I'm trying to figure out how I can salvage those layouts. I feel like it's such a shame for all those pretty kits to go to waste. :p

Kendall, you should print every single one of them.

Your daughter will appreciate knowing that she came from a place of love even if that love no longer exists. Trust me.

What she said.

I struggle with this. Big time.

Part of me agrees with you. But the other part of me feels that it might hurt her, reading all those "Family is forever/We'll always have each other" pages. I worry that she'll read it and feel sad.

What about asking her what she thinks? You could show her 1 or 2 of the layouts and let it be her call.

I don't know your daughter, of course, Kendall but I would imagine she has already felt those feelings and dealt with them when you & her father split up several (?) years ago.

Statistically speaking, her father is probably already remarried & you are obviously in a loving long-term relationship so I don't think it will make her sad or in pain so much as nostalgic the same way any photo from one's past can make one feel.

The love you felt then is part of the story, her story, and to leave it out completely would leave out some part of the story.

Thanks, LA, and I completely apologize for hijacking your thread! :p I'm definitely taking these thoughts into consideration. Luckily, I'm not quite ready to print just yet, so I've got some time to decide for sure. I really appreciate everyone's input! It helps a lot to hear other perspectives since most of my "IRL" friends aren't scrappers and don't quite get it.

I wish I saved the TIFF files. I never have though.

kristalund 09-08-2024 08:57 AM

Great idea!
I cheat by copy + pasting clusters from layout to layout :p

stephc777 09-09-2024 11:48 AM

I do this when I am making photo albums - I'll just flip the page for a facing page or rotate it and maybe sub out some elements or papers.

MrsPeel 09-16-2024 06:40 PM

nope...the urge to use all the kits I have and haven';t use (and still keep shopping LOL) is too intense to use the same stuff again!!!!
