Period underwear lawsuit

I know this is not a glamorous topic but I had brought up period undies before to try to find one that works for me. And there's been a lawsuit involving Thinx company and the finding of 'forever chemicals' (PFAs) can could lead to really bad health issues.

So I got to wonder if the brand I'm using is any better and it sounds like it's not. I've been using Knix and it's been life changing for me during my period and thinking I was doing something better for the environment and using something safer for my body. So I freaked. But apparently there are 4 brands of period underwear that have zero PFAs in them so that's encouraging.

If you're interested to read about the lawsuit

But my question for you is do any of you have any experience with either of these 4 brands?

Period, Luna Pads, Modibodi, and Bambody.

My daughter uses Bambody - we got them on Amazon. She mostly uses them as a backup and not instead of other products. They work well, but they aren't her primary coverage... if that helps. After some research we settled on the hipster style... almost like a low rise brief. I do have a hard time believing they are "cleaner" than the expensive brands considering you can get 3 bambody for the price of one Thinx. Maybe I just don't trust anyone to be honest any more! Did you know that most store receipts or coated thermal papers like that contain PFAs? Women handle receipts daily and shove them in their wallets, purses, etc. It's everywhere. They're even finding microplastics in our food... and breastmilk. :/

Oh gracious. Thanks for posting this. My daughter uses Thinx. Ugh. We'll be checking out some of the safer ones you mentioned.

Yes I do know about the receipts and make sure not to handle them much or never give them to my kids.

I just want to avoid WEARING something that could potentially harm us. If there is a safer option I'd rather take it.

Thank you for your input. I do also find it hard to believe that clean companies would be cheaper than others that have chemicals in them but I'll take it!

You're welcome. I'm glad you found this helpful.

Thanks for the info...we just talked about this at lunch the other day.

oh man, my daughter uses Thinx. Although to be honest, we still put pad on top of it. The reason was because I don't want her to be comfortable with just the undies, so she would still be concious and change in school. Thanks, Lea, for this info. I'm gonna have to read that article.

Oh my gosh, I had no idea. I better do some research. I have Knix and I was loving them. Ugh.

Kiana 01-21-2023 08:53 PM

We do not have any experience with any of them. I've always been wary of them to be honest so I never bought them for my daughter. I may look into the other brands you mentioned.

Thanks for the heads up

I know... I loved my Knix too. They were so soft and comfortable.

hmmm... I bought my daughter a ruby love period swimsuit to wear. I guess we'll have to rethink this for the upcoming summer.

we used modibodi because my daughter was on swim team and wanted a swim suit she could wear and she isn't ready to use tampons. She's loved the swimsuits and they deliver on their promise. Don't know about any side effects.

Thanks for the feedback on Modibodi swimsuit!

For anybody interested I got the Bambody Brief from Amazon and they feel very comfortable. I always use my period undies paired with a cup or just like I would use pads but they seem to do the job for what I need.

Thanks for sharing! I had chosen Knix after reading about Thinx. Time to try something else then!

jaye 01-27-2023 08:21 AM

oh wow, I had no idea about any of this. Honestly, though I am not up on all of this as I have a boy (well, I guess he is a man now at 25, lol) and I had all the 'equipment' removed at 34. Period undies and cups weren't out there in the 90's.

So glad that you are on top of what is good for your body and have found something safer. It is great information to pass on, thanks for sharing.

I had no idea. Glad I stumbled onto this thread. Thanks for sharing.
I have Bambody and use them by themselves (not as back-up, but I'm a SAHM. Although thinking back to my working days, had I been using them then, I would probably have been using them by themselves then too).
I love them.

Thanks for your feedback! Glad to hear they work great on their own.
