What is S mode in windows?

I finally decided to set up my new laptop and it has S mode in windows. I want to have dropbox on it, but it says I will have to go out of S mode and once I do that, S mode will no longer work. So what is S mode and how important is it to have it?

(BTW, I hate setting up new computers. Hate it.)
