Many years ago (like 40), my mother chose to start using a smaller tree for Christmas. It was a 3 foot tree and it sat on a table we had in the living room. The table itself was actually a piece of marble on an old treadle sewing machine base. The few presents we had were placed around the tree and larger ones around the treadle. At the same time I had a 2 foot tree in my old bedroom that had turned into a sitting room for me (with the computer and desk).
Fast forward to the present. I still use 2 foot trees. I have one in the above mentioned sitting room now office year round. I have another 2 that I rotate putting out on a cart in the dining room (these 2 have no electric lights). 2 years ago I bought a 3 foot tree that I put on the marble table loaded with sand dollar ornaments that my Dad made from sand dollars that he found on the beach at Hilton Head in 1980 and 1982. He bleached them then painted them white. The art teacher painted little pics on them with the year on the back.
I no longer have any presents to buy so really don't need a tree for that purpose.
As for those ornaments... I have several small ornament trees in my living room with ornaments on them all year long. Some are for a small number of my Precious Moments ornaments (the rest are on a shelving unit in my office). The other one has some of the Longaberger pewter ornaments I got in the early 2000's. I just added the Longaberger one 2 years ago, same time as the sand dollar tree after finding them in storage!
