I use a combination of handwritten lists and OneNote. I create a new OneNote page every quarter and use the "to do" checkbox. I get a lot of joy out of marking things complete!! To show progress, I will indent sub-tasks that I can check off as I go. For example, If I'm planning a birthday party, I would have the overall task and then a slew of things I check off under it. For recurring tasks where I need a reminder, I use Apple's Reminder app and set entry to recurring (example: replace furnace filter every 6 months).
