Sweet Shoppe SugarBabe
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the September 12th "SugarFree" scrapbooking challenge! This particular challenge dates back to 2007-2009; the SugarFree challenge was a journal heavy challenge that focused on the less sweet side of life.

Our prompt for today is The Uncooperative Subject.

For this challenge, you will scrapbook a layout (in any size you'd like) with at least one photograph and at least five (5) sentences of journaling. You are welcome to include more photos or as much journaling as you'd like, but you must have at least 1 photo and 5 sentences to qualify for this challenge.

As life artists, we often find ourselves faced with uncooperative subjects, particularly when it comes to capturing their image in a photograph. The "uncooperative" part can look different depending on the subject: babies and toddlers who scream and cry, older children who simply won't cooperate, teenagers who don't want their photo taken, a spouse who would rather be doing something else and makes it clear with their facial expressions, pets who won't look at the camera ... the list goes on and on.

So dig through your photo library and come up with the outtakes from a past shoot where you had one or more uncooperative subjects. Use the journaling space to do one of the following:

  • tell us what was happening in the photos; who was unhappy and why were they being uncooperative.
  • talk to us as the photographer: express your frustration with the uncooperative subject. Vent away!
  • use this past experience to plan an upcoming shoot. What did you learn from working with this uncooperative subject, and what will you approach differently this next time around?

Here is the layout I created for this challenge, using images from a rough photo shoot I did for my best girlfriend and her family a decade and a half ago. Believe it or not, the grumpy little man in these photos is a Senior in high school this year!

And here is what Biancka scrapbooked with this challenge in mind:

PLEASE NOTE: Even though all three of us focused our layouts on children who were being uncooperative, please don't feel like you can't do this challenge if you don't have littles in your life. Uncooperative subjects come in all shapes and sizes! Maybe it's a grumpy adult who didn't want to be photographed. Maybe it's a pet you were trying to capture who was moving too fast or wouldn't hold still. Perhaps it's the weather that ruined your sunset photos, or maybe it's even yourself if you needed to shoot a selfie but you just weren't in the mood. Get creative, and show us those uncooperative subjects in your life!

Challenge Summary:
  • one layout, any size
  • one (or more) photograph(s)
  • at least 5 sentences of journaling
  • focused on the prompt "The Uncooperative Subject"

Ahhhh! Sugar Free takes me back! I love those less than sweet moments that still deserve a spot in our memories. Sometimes those moments really stand out. Can't wait to see your pages ladies.

Again, I can't see the sample layouts, except Biancka's... not sure if it's my internet connection or that after the pre-posting these layouts have moved or something.

Awesome challenge!!

And no Marieke it's not just you, I don't see them as well unfortunally

Same Ladies, I can't see the two first layouts either!
But the challenge is so fun! How many time I was angry with non cooperate kids!:D

Thank you so much for today's challenge, beautiful weekend
It was really difficult to catch this pretty butterfly :o

Of course you can't see her expressions because I blur my kids' photos but she couldn't give me a simple smile. I got cross-eyed, tongue out, eyes closed, plain outburst...

This is a re-scrap of a page back in 2010ish, and this is the first photo that came to mind with this challenge. It needed a do over from my early years of digi scrap as it is so priceless and iconic!

Sorry for all the blurring and redactions. My goal with these challenges is to create pages that are very meaningful to me, but I can't post personal information without permission.

Love this challenge... I've had some photos that I tried to scrap multiple times but never quite got there.....this time!

That's what we like to hear - that you're using the challenges to stretch yourself and scrapbook more photos for your family. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

This is all about me looking at my handsome man instead of in the lens of the camera... but I least I got some photos of myself!

Journaling: We were so excited going to see possibly (ended up being) Chris Paul’s last game as a San Antonio Spur. We love CP3 even if he decided to do his possible last seasn a a Clipper we still loev Cp3. My cellphone died right after we sat down. I asked my son if I could use his cell phone to take pictures and he reluctantly told me okay. The game was over we wer going home. He tells me mommy I will send you the pictures. I said okay. Then he was quiet. He tells me it says I took too many for him to send I told him okay. He goes back to quiet. I get home and tell him to give me his phone he had deleted and emptied his trash so all the pictures were gone and nonrecoverable. So CP3, thank you for your time as a Spur. Sorry this is the only picture of you in our Basketball book of you being a Spur. But you will forever be a Spur in our heart. Thank goodness my son thought this was a nice angled picture adn didnt delete it. As we on the break of the start of 2025-2026 season I told im he is still on restriction for deleting mommy’s pictures. He says he is sorry.
