I totally agree with Traci. If you have the space to add an internal hard drive I think that's always better than an external hard drive. The computer just does a much better job of keeping an internal drive cool which is why they tend to last longer.
When my laptop started running out of space earlier this year, I chose to get another drive to add to my DH's desktop rather than an EHD. I just connect to it through our wireless network. It's great because I don't have all the extra cords from the external to deal with and I feel more comfortable using it all the time since I know it's being kept cool. I do have a copy of everything backed up to an EHD for when I travel and as a backup but I don't turn that on except for when I'm backing up.
