Netbooks don't generally have cd/dvd drives but an external one can be hooked up. I did another trick where I used a program to make an 'image' of a CD then put it on a flash drive and loaded onto my netbook that way. It worked for some programs but my favorite sudoku game had a minimum screen size and wouldn't load. A mini-laptop would offer more power and more options later for homework. I ended up trading my netbook for DD's laptop. the laptop isn't really portable because the power cord port is really loose so if you breathe on it wrong it unplugs itself and I needed a larger screen. But I still only use it for surfing, pogo, e-books, etc.
She is fine with doing all of her online stuff on the netbook...she's 21 and doesn't need anything more than that.
