I don't use my 85 everyday. My 24-70 is always on my camera inside, just remember when you rent it, if you don't have super steady hands you're not going to get the sharpest photos unless you're using a high shutter speed. At least I had that problem. I'm use to it now.
But to me, unless you're planning on starting a biz or something, the 24-70 is way too expensive. About $1400. I'd go with the Tamron version, cheaper and I think the focal lenght is about the same.
