1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate most definitely! Or my newest addiction, vanilla chai latte.
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I usually enjoy wrapping the presents. Last year I used silver paper and printed out a freebie card as a little tag. It got me into the christmas spirit like nothing else. This year I will have most of December off, so yes I will enjoy wrapping them again.
3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? White! It has to be white! I know it's quite popular everywhere now, but I can't stand coloured lights on my own tree.
4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope, we don't do that at all in Germany. But spending christmas in Nothern Ireland with my BF this year. Totally hoping there will be one. Because for me that's like in the movies.
5. When do you put your decorations up? Depends on my time and stress level. I usually make it a point to not put them up before advent. So most years I decorate at the first advent weekend. This year I'm behind and will most likely do so this weekend or middle of next week.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish? We change our dishes every year, so no special one. A classic childhood one would be beef roulade, last year we had a fantastic deer goulash made by my BIL.
7. Favorite Christmas memory as a child? The christmas when I got a Barbie sofa and played with it all christmas day.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I have no idea how old I was. But my parents started to let us help decorating the tree, when we were a bit older. Claiming we will all help the "christian child" (that traditionally brought the presents here). I was getting suspicious and told them, I think they have always done the tree. My mom confessed. Then I said: "But the presents, that weren't always you as well, or were you?" I wasn't really sure about it and mostly thought she'd say no. But she filled me in.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yep. In fact we open all presents then. In Germany we celebrate christmas eve, not christmas day.
10. How do you decorate your Christmas tree? Heavily? Our family tree has always been decorated in silver only. Now everyone does their own thing. My sister goes crazy in silver and gold. My dad sticks to silver. My mom will have her very own tree for the first time this year (I'm guessing on red). And I have done silver/white winter look or traditional red/white scandinavian look so far.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Once I drove home save and have cleared the sidewalk, I love it!
12. Can you ice skate? I can. Back in school there was a time when it was very "in" to hang out at the ice skating at the weekend.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Tough one. Looking back I think I will choose the doll's house I once got.
14. What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you? Family. For me it's all about family getting together and sharing the good times.
15. What is your favorite Christmas Dessert? No special one here. But we do have lots of typical sweets and cookies. I generally love cinnamon stuff.
16. What is your favorite Christmas tradition? That my father still goes into the living room (he is the only one officially allowed to help the christian child) and rings a bell three times. We are allowed to go in after the third time. And he ALWAYS waits a bit longer before the third time. We all love it.
17. What tops your tree? Nothing on mine. But there was always banter between my mom and dad whether they should put up the silver ornament, my dad loves.
18. Which do you prefer giving or Receiving? The good thing about christmas is that it's perfectly balanced, so I can enjoy both.
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? A very traditional German one called "Süßer die Glocken nie klingen" and from the International ones "Merry Christmas Everyone" and "Let it snow".
20. Candy Canes: Yuck or Yum? Everything candy is good to me!
21 Favorite Christmas Show? An East European version of Cinderella, "Little Lord Fauntleroy" with Alec Guinness and "The Last Unicorn".
22. Saddest Christmas Song? Don't think I have any.
23. What’s your Wish for Christmas. That the next year will be a very good one. With me finding a perfect job and my BF and me hopefully enjoying living together.
